Music for drummers is about time. This guy owns the time. His skill and talent is his ability to groove the shit out of things whilst mixing up subdivisions. This is true talent. SPANKY is a true innovator. I don't care who says what. He has locked in time and smashed the hell out of it.

Maybe someone could give some advice how to tune snare drum like this? I'm tryin to get that sound from my drum but i'm not success.. Spanky is killin, one of the best!
both good points. being a Good musician also means know where to put things. Sometimes a song or environment can warrant you being very technical other times it may require just keeping it smooth and simple.
@prankas Try tensioning the snare side head really tight and the batter side moderately tight, until you get the pop you're looking for. That what I sometimes do on my 13" x 7" snare and it has a ton of crack, similar to the snare he's using here.
OK - I was wrong. Stokley was the Mint Condition Drummer who helped mentor Chris Dave. Spanky is an entirley other cat. Chris Dave is definitley the next "drummer" out there. Spanky is nice though.

Help me out - I thought that Chris was mentored by Spanky at one point... am I confusing McCurdy with another drummer? Isn't this the same cat coming out of Mint Condition (the band)? To Saibus 2005 - this may sound repetitive to you, but keep in mind that people haven't really been playing like this until Chris Dave came along - which is why they call him "Daddy" - he's become the father of another way to play. Spanky is nice w/ his stuff though.
I think when a musician masters his instrument, he gets bored pretty quick with band members whom are perhaps "lack-luster". This happened to me, and I haven't been the same since. The guy who got me was a fired studio/ bar fly guitar player, and he broke my balls, and our drummers, for 2 months. But we stuck together, and when we came through the other side of it, there wasn't an audience request we wouldn't throw down... it pays to stick with it, cocky or not...
thats weird right after this... (im definately a "nobody" i shook his hand and he told us about his cymbals and stuff. hes definately a quiet one not arrogant quiet but he seemed kinda shy. when teddy campbell was playing he was just locked into what teddy was doing while everyone was talking and oooooing and aaaaaing. thas what i got from him when i met him. kinda shy no cockiness idk about now tho...
na hes not arrogant he may come off arrogant cuz i heard that hes kinda shy but if u talk to him you can tell hes not arrogant he just loves music and hes kinda shy like when u compliment him he just says"its god not me" cuz its true hes a good guy i talked to him after that performance and believe me there WAS a line
