Their boots hitting the ground simultaneously is really music to my ears.

The Beijing Garrison Honor Guard (Chinese: 北京卫戍区仪仗大队), also known as the PLA Honor Guard is a ceremonial honor guard and police unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. It is composed of representatives of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The Honor Guard soldiers must be at least 192 cm tall.

The British Army Guards division 💂♂️ once looked like this before the 1980s, but sadly those standards have long gone into accepting guards with huge bellies and very un-uniformed height. Very sad
German guard here. Out of interest whats you Guard height requirement? Ours is 1.80 - 2.00m for Guardsmen, 1.70 for normal Guard officers which aren't publicly displayed.
Now UK is not a great country any more, like a mid-aged man with belly drinking all day yelling the stories of his heyday...

How true! I visited the Buckingham Palace in the 1980s and I was struck by how disciplined the guards were. They stood absolutely still and when tourists moved right up to them and made funny faces before them, they would not even blink their eyes. When I visited the Buckingham Palace again few years ago, it was a completely different story. The guards could not seem to be able to stand still. No only did they move their bodies, their eyeballs were roving all over the place! An unmistakable decline in the discipline of the British society....

Personally I don’t think these honour guards will be that effective in a fight. But then again, they are not meant to fight in the traditional way, their theatre of war is more physiological than physical. But they are equally as important as those who train for war. The are the face of the PLA and the lengths they go to to ensure the PLA is respect is admirable and deserves our respect.
Every military will have an honour guard and a combat guard. Obviously if you can fight more than display, you will be sent to the combat guard. So an honour guard will not necesarily be the first to fight-they have the combat troops for that

They wear out 7 pairs of boots a year? Even for their march style, that seems pretty bad.
How do they select the people who will be on the honor guard? nine hours drill per day; I can see why they look so sharp when they march.
i've heard that they select guards of honor based on their height and whether they've rendered meritorious deeds or not
@@hazelnutbutter5314 height requirement was 6’4 for men and 5’8-9 for women I believe, though I think they may have lowered the men’s one by an inch in recent years
Height and skill. I've known soldiers (not China) from other Asian countries who were good in combat but not good in marching. So they definitely are not in the honor guard
