This is probably one of the most photorealistic looking maps ever made for the game. Especially at night. Reminds me a lot of older Counter-Strike maps that used Half-Life 2 assets.
makes me wonder how far the basic source engine could push a game with graphics and lighting. source will always be my favorite engine.

Are you referring to CS Source? Because that's quite obvious, although it has its own props and models. However, maps like de_port used Highway 17 assets and so did cs_compound.

The level detail on this map is incredible. It truly is a labor of love
The process of using photographic textures is also somewhat of a lost art that hasn't been seen in major workshop maps in quite some time, now that programs such as Substance Designer have gotten so much traction. But the result often can't compare to the real thing sometimes.
@@eau_rouge When I was in a server playtesting the map after it came out, someone commented 'the supermarket alone puts every Valve map in the game to shame' for the texture quality. I personally thought of rp_southside upon checking out the building interiors. I think that one location will definitely become the maps fan favorite feature.
@@eau_rouge This, it's amazing. It's awesome to see it also so completely and fully realised (Coop is a real swedish grocery store in sweden.), it's so fully realised. It reminds me actually of some of those old Gmod maps, there was one i particular that i don't remember the name of, but had a lot of stores with racks with things in them and such and a hotel or something.

Source problems require Source solutions.
The trees kill Kliksphilip, and then once made into chairs, they evolve and crash Zool.
Zool besides shitposting he knows the engine by a mile. Ye, we shouldn't be surprised.
Zool the type of guy to spend like a day troubleshooting a source bug like a speedrun and report back then disappear into a void once again

I worked on the train that passes through there for 10 years. There's a little break room at the far end of the tile building where I've taken many many shits.

As a swede it is hilarious to see all the slightly altered logos and brands that are still fully recognizable if you know the original. Also loads of details like the height sticker at 4:17.

This is more than just a map. He took photos and modeled the whole environment, on top of all the technical things inside the source engine.

Insertion 1 was my all-time most favorite map of all time
because I can sit in a bush and get free kills

"boost player contrast" setting is probably the reason player models are more visible in the fog.

upward would probably have been the best pick... that or viaduct, since the pinacle of designing koth maps got dubbed 'viaduct formula'
I feel like the point he was trying to make is that while it's imperfect, plenty of places to improve
"It just works". Like you can hop on and start playing, and at least from the days i used to play you never really got entirely steamrolled on one end unless one team pulled out the tryhard cap. Balanced? No. Functional and, for all it's flaws, working and playable? Yes. Other choices would still be better though.
Yea, I was really just making a joke here. I think it really isn't the best example of a well made map for todays standards. But it is one of the OG maps and literally hasn't changed in 14 years, yet people still love it, in part for how iconic it is.
I just learned of this map with the recent update and i adore the realism and detail of it. Especially the supermarket is amazing.

The amount of work done even before the map was being work on is astounding. Clearly having a reference helps a lot when creating real-life environments (and having the talent of course).
The environments and mood reminds me a bit of Cry of Fear, but I guess is because the very nature of the geographical setting. Congratulations to the map creator and everyone involved in its creation. Having worked on Hammer, I personally find it hard to make realistic environments look real and detailed enough, so this map is nothing short of a work of art.

Feels surreal to have been at these exact real life spots. Really couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw the pictures, thought I was imagining things lol, sick map.

If you're from Sweden then you understand that the level of detail on this map is insane! I mean, he got the bags of candy we have right! The signs in the market are exactly the same as in the real one. Even the layout of the store is right where you always start off with the bread!

This map might bring some more players and make hostage group popular again
Insertion is an excellent hostage map (and my favorite one). It's unusually open, beautiful, fun and balanced, proving that the hostage gamemode is viable if done right. And the sequel looks even better, and it has offline bot support!
i hope both insertion 1 n 2 will be added to cs2,

I played CSGO during 2013-2015, recently I reinstalled it and remembered how we used to play this map a lot back in the day during operation breakout. Such a cool concept that I really miss playing in competitive.
I so hate that it got removed, I already miss this map

the inspiration photos are from my local supermarket and it feels really cool being able to play cs go in your own town,

Source engine was always great to capture such abandoned, slightly eerie locations and it seems like this map is a perfect example. I'll download this just for the atmosphere!

I was plenty satisfied with just walking around and exploring the map. It's such a beautiful map that it is an experience to just take in the scenery.
This looks like a genuinely great map. Insertion was one of my all-time favorites.

Huh, didn't expect Bez to actually stand for "Nameless" in Polish. Damn, that was major plot twist for me at the end.
I grew to like Insertion during the Operation, so look forward to trying this new version. Thank you for showing it to us.
insertion was awesome, the spawn point picking is brilliant
I never played insertion 1, so all of those features really struck me out of nowhere the first time I played this map, the way it looks, the way it feels, all the possibile entrances to places, always giving you a choice, the spawns, the ambient, it all felt great, I could immediately tell this was the effort of someone who loved what they were doing.
I miss this map, hope comes back again to multiplayers.

im sad this got removed. Such a unique map idea and a great addition to the hostige pool (better than office). I can see why it was removed though. A bit big, and not a lot of cover. means half the map wasnt even used, like the area around the houses
The Night version makes me emotional for some reason, it looks beautiful and it reminds me of Havana from 1.6. Idk the tone of the map is so good. It's soo calming the oragnes. It's like I'm actually there
This shop area looks sick, I love when mappers try to recreate these kinds of areas.
Oskmos makes maps that make me feel like im playing counter strike for the first time again

I live in Sweden and because this mapping work is so precise and with so much attention to detail put into it, it feels more real since the "locations" look like places I've been before.
I love bots and seeing someone give them some love on their maps is awesome. i wish i knew how to make navmesh's and bot ai's

i would love to see more of these types of video, where you review maps and speak to the creaters about how they went about making it and the chalenges they had.
I think Insertion II and I, should be made into their own gamemodes, or just overtake the hostage mode in general, It's just such a fun and different way of playing which gives a fun break from the competitive grind

Wild that this map made it and is already one of my favorite maps ever
I liked the idea of CT's having a "choice" and made a similar map in CS1.6.
But I made it so that each CT spawned in a small container where the short ends of it had images. One showing the front of the house where the hostages where and the second showing a beach on the back of the house from which the CT's could get to the house by scaling a rock face or going through a cave. Then when the player walked up to the desired entry point they were teleported to that location.
I would like CS:GO to allow more randomness and choice without resorting to twisting the arm of the editor. Especially for casual play and public servers.
Also, the familiarity feeling as a Swede to run around in Insertion 2 is pretty cool by itself :)

Phillip, I would give an arm and a leg for you and Bez to make some more videos together about bots, everything from the differences between the new and old AI in depth to how exactly they work and maybe even some new and updated tutorials. I absolutely love the videos you did with him in the past, and as I said above, would give an arm and a leg for more of them.

I don't play CSGO much, but I absolutely loved Library. Cool to see the same guy making the polar opposite of that map.
Night time looks like cry of fear, 'specially on that shot of the police vans.
OG insertion is easily one of the best maps in general, and hands down the best hostage map
