grinc333 I love it, so true. This man knows his shit. I have bought more lenses off his recommendations that I care to admit and they have all been exactly as described.

My perfect lenses, also yours I think that I also own are :
    Voigtlander Nokton 58/f1.4.
    Zeiss Distagon 35mm/f2.
    Zeiss Planar 85mm/f1.4.
The 58mm and 85mm I use mainly for portraits an art nude photography. My models are loving the photo's that are made with these 2 lenses.

My dude! I shoot exclusively vintage glass on the gfx and the alphas and dslr before that, slr before that yadda yadda. Decided my niche is about my unique quiver of awesome glass ! I’ve done many tests in the gfx with FF and 645 glass and the results are tremendous. Take an awesome lens on an a7xxx and it changes on the gfx. So far my champions are the Minolta Rokkor -x50 f1.4 and 45 f2. As well the radioactive canon 35mm FD and the Takumar 1.4 ...

Ken I agree the XF 80mm is just insane... i'm a big macro fan as well. i wasn't looking but i landed on a very cheap brand new a7riv this past black friday for an insane price... under 2 grand final price from B&H. it's 3500 msrp so i had to give it a shot at this price (I still have my Fuji). I just purchased the 90mm 2.8 Sony macro which has pretty much legendary status as one of the sharpest macros out there. I have VERY high thoughts of the XF 80mm macro so it will be interesting to compare the two... testing begins this weekend.

Is there any sense in sending up those go-pro cameras attached to weather balloons to check the curvature of the Earth, when I think a simple pinhole camera would do the job. You know a dark box with the camera showing the picture inside the box. What do you think ? Do all lenses distort the real picture ?

people don’t get it because truth hurts this is why many people hate you . I had my second Voigtländer 58mm , 40mm f2 , zeiss 35mm f2 distagon , 20mm 1.8g , 50mm 1.4g plastic turd ( most hated lens with charakter ) all paired with Z6 , D500 and D700 . the 58 mm is a killer ... I got the first version with the rubber ring in 2009 or 2010 with the 40mm and D700 , the second 58mm new version in 2016 , if I had one lens it would be the 58mm Voigt

There is some truth to the statement that you get what you pay for. But not always! I would have a hard time choosing between 300 or 400 2.8 Nikkor because I really like both. After purchasing the 200-500 and shooting it between 9am and 4pm CST you will never convince me that $$$$$ is better. That lense is insane for the money.

  • @texasboy5117

The perfect lens... it’s what you really like. I have about $12,000 of glass, but my go lens seems always to be my Tamron 18 to 70.
Is it the best? No way. Does it meet almost all of my needs on my D810; yes. Do I enjoy shooting with it? Absolutely! Because I have put the time in to understand what the lens and camera can do with it 90% of the time.
AND my camera bag is so much lighter!

That 58mm Voigtlander isn't available in EF mount, I guess I'll just use the 55mm Super Takumar 1.8 instead and see if its worth buying Nikons version and adapting it. Maybe there are better Zeiss lenses for EF on that focal lenght range

That Voigtlander 58/1.4 use crystal glasses inside, with uncomperable light transmission. And some very specific and nice picture. That old Topcor 58/1.4 also used same glasses as I know, and now it cost about 1000 or even more USD. In fact this Voigtlander 58/1.4 is very cheap for such kind of lens, cost about 450 USD.
