No, this is what happens when you lift a truck. The weight has nothing to do with it, also look at the tires aswell, the lugs lift the actual tire off the ground. So more traction=better pull
The guy in the older F-150 had his tires aired down if that lifted one would have dropped his tires down to about 10 lbs he would have yanked the shit out of that little piece of crap

its about gearing. People lift there new trucks and the gears in them are "economical" trying to pull a 35" tire. If the new ford was geared properly it would've drug the stock ford.

How to win a tug of war no matter what brand truck you own.
1) 4 wheel drive
2) wide grippy tires for on road pulls, tall wide mud slingers for off-road pulls
3) weight advantage, have extra weight over the rear tires, and if you can, add some weight to the front as well.
4) for on road pulls, NEVER go full throttle and spin your tires, losing traction makes it easier for your opponents to pull you.
The older ford had more people which equals more weight and had stuff on the bed and street tires.The lifted ford has only had 2 people in the truck nothing in the bed and it had mud tires.

Wide tires are pretty worthless unless you're actually trying to spread out your vehicle's weight so you don't sink. The exception to this rule though is asphalt slicks and drag tires.
