Bee's shape is informed by his mold's original purpose: a transforming Choro-Q. Choro-Q (1978 ) were released as Penny Racers in the US. They were 'chibified' car toys that you would put a penny in the back for weight, and they were pull-back spring powered.
Yeah sadly the problem of making a cartoon accurate G1 Bumblebee will always be a problem due to how the original toy wasn't meant to be an cartoon character and instead be a giant robot piloted to fight against the Waruda Empire. Even if Takara/Hasbro tries to ignore the Diaclone aesthetic, they can't due to how the cartoon used the tiny beetle car mode in the cartoon.
I got this guy despite owning the MP 1.0 bee because it looked very similar but with the proper yellow and a better head sculpt. At first I couldn't figure out why I didn't like him as much but after adding toyhax cell shaded windows and a 3d printed wheel to the gun port in the back I am honestly in love with him. It's pretty crazy how much more alive the figure feels by adding that extra bit of blue color in his chest and yeah the wheel adds more to the backpack but it feels really nice when holding it and makes the back angle more tolerable and cartoon accurate in robot mode.
I personally love his vehicle mode and I couldn't figure out why until my wife pointed out how similar it looked to Lupin the 3rd's car. Which them made me stomp around the house wanting a Transformers x Lupin III crossover figure!
The vehicle mode looks like that to make remolding into other characters like Cliffjumper, a lot easier. Notice how it starts off VW-Bug'ish, and then starts to get all squared-off looking with defined corners and points. This guy is gonna be so EASY to turn into Cliffjumper. Which i approve of, because no more parts-forming this time! Hopefully we get Goldbug, and Hubcap from this mold too.
Studio Series Cliffjumper has been done. They won't go back and do another one based off this mold. I don't see much they can reuse for Cliffjumper anyway. Are they just going to change the head, color him red and say "Here ya go"? What about his rear spoiler He also has a completely different front end.
It’s not supposed to be white. The animation couldn’t do silver since it’s just flat colors so they just did them up in light grey but if they had a way to represent it in the g1 style they would’ve made the white stuff on the characters chrome like prime’s legs they were chrome on the toy so they represented that as white in the animation
Love him because he’s far more accurate to the G1 animation model. The only parts I dislike on it are the fact the wheels on his feet don’t tuck underneath his heels like it is supposed to be. I would also have preferred painted allspark blue windows instead of black. To further match the animation. Apart from that brilliant release. When I got him I couldn’t stop playing around with him, transforming him back and forth. Xx
The difference of yellow, excluding the painted parts of the chest, are because of the type of plastic. Plastics are different depending on what they have to do.
You can adjust the paint for it. We do it with real cars to . Bumper are plastic and body are make from steel. The make the same color the paint is adjust for it Reason after a crash of a car the bumper repair the color is off from the factory
I like this figure just fine. But, my thought is they designed him this way to make him easier to retool into other characters…Bumper…CJ…probably others. Maybe not. Who knows. Either way, I like him. And, I’m a fan of transparent windows.
Great figure, but I wish the hood was more rounded, ESPECIALLY considering that it's the chest of the robot, and the part is built like a brick. However, it's obvious this figure was made with a retool into Cliffjumper in mind, hence why there are so many "square" proportions on this "round" design.
I’m fine with the alt mode, the problem is that the chest in robot mode is too chunky and the paint apps are trash. We know Target is gonna drop a color accurate version next year
I agree with what you said and guess what I have that exact figure and it's so good I love him even though your permission I just like this dude so much he's one of my first transformers I ever got so yeah
To start no Hasbro's relationship with any car company has always been very fragile at the best of times. And licensing was the confirmed reason why they didn't use the VW bug design. As for the miss matching yellows. It's caused by 2 seperate issues. The 1st being the extreme difficulty to get any pacific shade of yellow. It's such a problematic color to mix. The 2nd issue is that all the don't come from the same spir, and each different spir is actually done in different manufacturing plant buildings that all get their own set of instructions. And no they don't coordinate with eachother. So each plant group ends up using a different shade recipe mix than the others because of it. That's why mismatching colors happen so often these days. The unconfirmed rumor to why this altmode choice is for an easy retool into Cliff Jumper. Which I can kinda see where people may think that with this altmode shape.
It makes sense. It is an imitation of the Volkswagen and jt works. I don’t fault hasbro cuz i could see how awful the licensing is. I would buy this toy
Because my megatron and Optimus prime I think form the 1900s and I found it on a yard sell and got it for 5 bucks and the megaton is a bit shiny and Optimus prime to

Penny Racers were so much fun, I had a good few as a kid
@@EclipseAtDusk I really wish they made some Bumblees and Cliffjumpers with a pullback motor.
I got him a few days back. He is so fun to play with, especially on how tightly packed and compressed his alt mode is. I love it!
my main issue with this bumblebee is the chest is too blocky, a bit rounded edges for the car roof goes a long way
I just wish he was smiling. Bumblebee loses a lot of his charm when he just looks bored all the time
Something like Legacy Animated Bumblebee
The vehicle mode is actually screen accurate for once.

The Mini-bots were Micro Change, there size was accurate since they were based n penny racers.
giant robots were diaclone, bumblebee and the other mini bots werent from diaclone but were from micro change
thanks for the correction.

Im more oppose to the silver face. Suppose to be white. I really dislike the use of that silver speckled paint on the face sculpts.

Sometimes they are tucked under, sometimes they aren't. It depends on the episode.
Toyhax does seperate window stickers
@@dragondash391 I’d rather just paint it myself tbh as I hate stickers and the paint will last longer.
Thank you for the suggestion though 🤗. Xx
@@Fenris30 most episodes they are tucked under.
Better than the Masterpiece Bumblebee’s backpack
He looks more like Bumper in car mode
That’s what I was thinking, given that the Yellow Mazda Mini con variant wasn’t ever released officially
Yes glad you reviewed
0:30 this. This exactly.
Interesting take on Bumblebee! It's cool to see how they've captured the G1 design while updating it for the Studio Series.
By far best version of Bee from d(r)Eactivate 2-pack.
even if bumblebee it's supposed to be a wolkswagen beetle, he looks more like a fiat 500
I mean I do give in that he big backed… but again it served a purpose.
Hope they get lots of uses out of this mold cliffjumper goldbug bugbite tapout glyph hubcap bumper so much retooling potential.
To answer the questions of why, it's to match his penny racer roots, which did show on screen too
7:29 you are right.
A poor man’s masterpiece bumblebee

@@dyslectische that's a car. This is a 24$ toy
Blue windows like the Legacy United 5 pack with Sunstreaker, Hound, etc would have been better.
I can't wait for the two pack with bumble jumper and some other random recolor a prowler

It's like the bumblebee lego. People saying it's bad despite 86 and lego being g1/1984 accurate
if you want choroQ chibi VW beetle, get this
if you want realistic VW beetle, get that netflix resissue
atleast he’s backpack doesn’t look like a Michael bay action scene cuz mp-45 looks like.

To me at least half an hour to get that car mode all lined up without either door popping out of place
At least the backpack was not a partsformer piece... **cough** Earthrise Bumblebee **cough**
Counterargument: He's hella cute
I see what you’re saying about the head
I think this Bee looks like a Vw Rabbit
For me. G1 cartoon bumblebee will always be a penny racer😂
G1 toy.
MP21 is still peak.
I will die on that hill.
Correct

1:18 hey its on the devastation model sooo this counts as a studio series devasation figure?
0:43 true
Really wish the face was gray and the windows were blue..
TAKARA TOMY HAD A TRANSFORMERS TOY THAT HAD A LISENCE CAR HAD A LAMBO LOGO IN THE BOX
I really wish the upcoming "Retro" G1 Bumblebee used this mold, with a "battle mask" face, instead of the Earthrise 'Bee
I just wish the windows were blue.
Hi mechazee your videos are big Epic
Still better than mp 45 in every way
I mean its a fun figure. Also the backpack isn't much of a problem? At least it doesn't parts form COUGH COUGH earthrise COUGH COUGH

Ok so the backpack isn’t bad just remember it can always be worse (cough cough) *masterpiece bumblebee* (cough
Why do we even get transparent windows? It isn't as strong, and all it does is let you see all the robot junk inside. Coloured windows all the way.
How can you not see the G1 animated alt mode was a VW? This thing is so inaccurate in so many ways, it shouldn't even be called a Studio Series.
5th comment aint that bad
Its awfuel
what's with transformers youtubers and being freaky as hell
The car sucks END OF STORY
Nah bro this is waste of money 😭
