Also he was clearing defensively to the point they didn't bother going left wing and used Spain's weakness - their RB Cucurella neither world class player nor good team player nor experienced nor intelligent. All dangerous actions including that which lead to a goal were from the right side of the pitch. Which is obvious why, because Cucurella watched too much of Marcelo and tried to be THAT GUY in attack and support, but he forgot that Marcelo was a beast in defense and his support or full winger roles are what he would take depending on a) what was needed b) how situation on the pitch looks, Cucurella lacks that pitch-iq and he's 25 so probably can't and won't learn it anymore. He also forgot that Marcelo could do those things because his acceleration and speed was usually better than opposite team right winger, so it allowed him to be back on time and Marcelo WAS THE BEST LEFT BACK OF 2010s both defensively and in support/offensive role (38g/100a in Real). The only thing I can say Cucurella did well is playing as a +1 in midfield but again, he didn't know when to go back and is too slow to play like he plays and because of that often midfielder had to cover for him. I think he was the worst on the pitch aside from Morata and Oyarzabal on the Spanish side. And people are too harsh on Bellingham, they expect one man difference from fresh 21yo like he was Zidane. Most balls were going through him, when he passed, especially high/long passes were perfectly on the receiver boot. He solo created more than half of England's xG and that ball to Foden in 87 minute would and should've been goal, after that pass he was solo vs Simon and was in penalty box, he just couldn't receive it. And that wasn't particularly a hard ball, just the typical La Liga or Premier League level pass, not something only 3 people in their prime could've receive it. But it was match-changing ball, probably because of nerves Foden couldn't do it and ball bounced back and was kicked out of penalty box.

Didn't seem like Spain won by more than 1 goal to me, and a late one at that. Even if they had plenty of chances themselves, doesn't make a difference if they don't take them. Not to mention the clearance off the line late in the game that could've been a different story in another game. Not saying England played well this tournament, because they didn't, but they got to where they did however they could, and on another Sunday it may have gone differently. Otherwise Spain would've won 4-0, but they didn't.

SG's biggest mistake in the match was pushing this guy to the wing. He was the architect of their goal today, which happened when he was drafted to midfield after Mainoo was sub-off. Madrid showed this best in the 2022 ucl final when liverpool had like 24 shots and they had just 2 but still won, and also against man city in 2024. That sounds bit whiny to me. This loss is not much more cruel than how England beat the Dutch team in the semis, just that here England are on the other side of it and it's the actual final. And looking at the entire tournament, the Spanish more than deserve the title, winning against Italy, France, and Germany (the last two were already finals before the final). I have no idea how Carvajal gets 6 as a rating from most outlets, he had 2nd hand assist by playing that beautiful ball to Yamal which he ultimately gave to Nico. He gave 4 balls similar or better than that, 2 of them to Yamal and 2 two to the rest of the team. His high crosses into the box were almost all very VERY dangerous if Spain had tall players there would be a goal or two, but anyways those made Pickford and English defenders nervous often header or kicking the ball wherever as far as possible. Also he was clearing defensively to the point they didn't bother going left wing and used Spain's weakness - their RB Cucurella neither world class player nor good team player nor experienced nor intelligent. All dangerous actions including that which lead to a goal were from the right side of the pitch.
Which is obvious why, because Cucurella watched too much of Marcelo and tried to be THAT GUY in attack and support, but he forgot that Marcelo was a beast in defense and his support or full winger roles are what he would take depending on a) what was needed b) how situation on the pitch looks, Cucurella lacks that pitch-iq and he's 25 so probably can't and won't learn it anymore. He also forgot that Marcelo could do those things because his acceleration and speed was usually better than opposite team right winger, so it allowed him to be back on time and Marcelo WAS THE BEST LEFT BACK OF 2010s both defensively and in support/offensive role (38g/100a in Real). The only thing I can say Cucurella did well is playing as a +1 in midfield but again, he didn't know when to go back and is too slow to play like he plays and because of that often midfielder had to cover for him. I think he was the worst on the pitch aside from Morata and Oyarzabal on the Spanish side.
And people are too harsh on Bellingham, they expect one man difference from fresh 21yo like he was Zidane. Most balls were going through him, when he passed, especially high/long passes were perfectly on the receiver boot. He solo created more than half of England's xG and that ball to Foden in 87 minute would and should've been goal, after that pass he was solo vs Simon and was in penalty box, he just couldn't receive it. And that wasn't particularly a hard ball, just the typical La Liga or Premier League level pass, not something only 3 people in their prime could've receive it. But it was match-changing ball, probably because of nerves Foden couldn't do it and ball bounced back and was kicked out of penalty box.

Didn't seem like Spain won by more than 1 goal to me, and a late one at that. Even if they had plenty of chances themselves, doesn't make a difference if they don't take them. Not to mention the clearance off the line late in the game that could've been a different story in another game. Not saying England played well this tournament, because they didn't, but they got to where they did however they could, and on another Sunday it may have gone differently. Otherwise Spain would've won 4-0, but they didn't.

They weren't though, it was extremely close and just because a team doesn't play attacking football and have 9999 passes doesn't mean they are being dominated. Madrid showed this best in the 2022 ucl final when liverpool had like 24 shots and they had just 2 but still won, and also against man city in 2024. These top games are won on fine margins, not stats.

That sounds bit whiny to me. This loss is not much more cruel than how England beat the Dutch team in the semis, just that here England are on the other side of it and it's the actual final. And looking at the entire tournament, the Spanish more than deserve the title, winning against Italy, France, and Germany (the last two were already finals before the final). It would have been far more cruel if Spain had lost because England got lucky, or because of the referee, for example.
