    I know from experience as a docent at another AZA accredited zoo that it’s always sad when you have to say goodbye to an animal that you love and care about. Euthanasia is the last thing that we or the keepers and vets want, but sometimes, the right decision isn’t always the easiest to make.
    Because of my experience as well as watching the episode on Disney Plus, I had a feeling that they might have to do that because of how the mass was affecting Holly. I was hoping for a better outcome, but it was better that she went quickly and was surrounded by people who loved her than it would be to see her in pain for a long period of time.

      28 isn't that old though, oldest bear was around 44.

    Im so sorry to all the staff and vets who looked after Holly over the years. 😢 vetanarians get to know when its time to do the most humane act for an animal..Animals, like humans dont deserve to suffer. 😢 The staff and zoo, have given her a good life. Its sad but so kind that she will no longer be suffering in pain. All of you are amazing people and i can certainly see the love you all have for these animals! Thank you for doing what yous do from your hearts❤❤❤

    I was there about a year ago, and one of the black bears was just chilling out on a rock, haha. I definitely enjoy it every time I go.

    Wait a minute, wasn’t this on one of the documentaries that was released on DVD? Something tells me this is what was on the DVD. But I thinking there’s just 1 problem, I didn’t get a chance to get that & some of the other known Nat Geo Documentaries of Modern & Prehistoric Animals in my DVD Collection. Including a copy or so as an Insurance, Just Incase. I’m going to have to write a letter to the Headquarters to bring one of the exact descriptions back in DVD Stock. Especially include those that have yet to be released on DVD in America after all these years.

      I already saw the episode on Disney Plus. I had hoped for a better outcome, but since I’m an experienced docent at another AZA accredited zoo, I knew they might have to do that because zookeepers at AZA zoos don’t like seeing their animals in pain. In the end, it was the right decision since the mass would’ve caused her a lot of suffering.

      It's OK to be upset. Please know they only euthanize when it is the best choice for the animal. The bear would have suffered a lot if they had let it die naturally. It's a tough choice, but the price we pay for loving these animals.

      You might want to rewatch the episode. Because she was elderly, trying to remove it could kill her. Since I’m an experienced docent at another AZA zoo, I had a feeling that they might have to do that because Holly was elderly and very sick. I was hoping for a better outcome, but it didn’t happen.

    • @shannondominguez9725
      @shannondominguez9725 Рік тому +3

      Holly had a mass inside her mouth that was suspected to be cancerous which is what they said not that they didn’t know(go back and rewatch it)and because she was an older bear removal was much riskier plus there was also the possibility that even if they got everything it could have come back bigger and more aggressive than before. The kindest thing they could do was to let her go to prevent further suffering she had a pretty good long life for a bear under managed care and I should also add that at AZA facilities like this one euthanasia isn’t something that isn’t taken lightly as the goal is to the animals the best care possible with as much preventative husbandry care as they can get them to participate in. Unfortunately animals getting older and sick is a part of life and sometimes as hard as it is part of taking care of them involves these decisions it’s part of being a vet they don’t want to put animals down it’s not fun but it’s better than letting them sit and suffer which is completely unnecessary.

      @@shannondominguez9725 28 isn't that old though, bears can live into their 40's in the captivity 30s in wild.
