D&D players, what way did you use a "useless" spell in a good way? #2
D&D Players, What was your best "Wait...what?!" moment?
Mine is a genie warlock whose patron is a doa that owns Infinite IKEA and the patron is using him as a corporate spokesperson to establish IKEA across the multiverse
SCP-3008
@@jacobbressler5598 Yup
I had a similar idea only my patron was going to be Omega Mart. not sure if going to go the easy route and GoOlock or refluff Genie
Warlock that needs to advertise his patreon company... hm...
why did i know the first comment would be about scp-3008...
I have said this character concept before but I'll put it here again because it relates to this video also. A human male farmer who lived a pretty typical life until one day he was kidnapped and experimented on by a drow elf necromancer, a lot of his organs were replaced with that of different humanoid races. The lungs of a Triton, stomach of an orc, kidneys of a dwarf, intestines of a Tabaxi, spleen of a lizard folk, skeletal frame of a warforged, and heart of a fire genasi. The foolish necromancer however used the farmer's soul and brain so the man was still very much in control. Alistair Bartholomew Chapstin, ABC to his friends, escaped and sold his farm to the mayor of his town and went out on the adventurous life with a new vigor and vengeance against dark magic.
Here's two:
A ranger who constantly would hit everyone they met with a stick, thinking "If I hit enough people, it'll turn into a bow!"
A Paladin who everyone in the party has to disagree with at all times when it comes to ideas or plans. Meaning if the paladin comes up with or even agrees on a plan that is fool proof, everyone must disregard the idea. You can't get around it, it acts like a curse.
Bonus features:
He's part of a religion that nobody can seem to figure out, and constantly seems to conflict with its self. in fact, an entity's brain would explode trying to read his mind to understand it.
Lawful good in his actual alignment, using detect alignment would come up as "Lawful Stupid" to the user. Hence why nobody is allowed to use any ideas of his or those he agrees with.
Mind you I would be playing this guy as smart as possible.
I love that, time to implement it in some form into my campaign.
He could game it by saying "We SHOULDN'T plan A"
@@coolgreenbug7551 Mind the you the character is unaware of his "lawful stupid" curse, so he thinks everyone disagreeing with him is just not realizing the flaw in his plan.
the second one is a poor concept for a collaborative game, as you are forcing control of other people's characters due to your own concept.
a paladin under a contrariness curse may work, but 'everyone always disagrees even if i have a good idea' forces others to act in a certain way even if against their character concept or nature, and that's a no-no in ttrpg...
honestly, if someone tried that as a concept at my table, they would be told to rework it or make a new character.
A warlock whose patron bound themselves to their existence as a way to survive and hide from some kind of threat. The 2 must cooperate to truly utilize their power but the patron is constantly trying to take full control of their warlocks body, however it’s also possible for this to go the other way and the warlock completely consumes their patron, gaining all their powers.
I want to play a Gnome echo knight with a human adoptive older brother who in a twist of events sacrifices himself to save his little gnome brother. The echo he summons wouldn't be himself from the future/past like normal, but would instead be the spirit of his adoptive sibling. They were a pirate duo named Jolly and Roger, and it is going be the most wonderfully happy yet profoundly sad character I can make him with coming off like a Shonen protagonist.
I made Anakin Skywalker in D&D once, but never played him. Air genasi after exposure to Primordial energy during his birth, grew up building things for his hobgoblin master to sell. He gets pretty good at Tinkering, gaining the feat Artificer Initiate. Then, a Paladin helps him win his freedom in a chariot race, gaining him the background of Folk Hero, and took him back to the order of the Jedi, an order of Paladins, clerics, and monks who dabbled in other varieties of magic, most of the others being some kind of Sorcerer. He became a powerful Paladin and one of the most ingenious wizards in the order. He even crafted his own Sunblade. Chaotic good alignment, and kept getting into trouble with the council of his order, but none could deny his strength and success, especially as they were dragged into a war.
I have a CC lined up if my current charachter dies that’s mechanically a Warforged but is actually a goblin. You see, as an artificer armored, he was building a power suit with a built in magical AI. But he uhhhhhh lost control and now the AI has taken over via the telepathic cables.
Dr. OCTOPUS; it’s a goblin that’s just Dr. Octopus. Not his name, just the trope.
An old, grandmotherly warlock who's already fulfilled her patron's desire and comes out of retirement cuz she's bored. Very sweet, very powerful, knits scarves out of internal wool from hell-sheep she keeps. Probably named Agatha.
Second: an elf barbarian seamstress who was banished for stabbing a particularly irritating customer in the eye with her knitting needles (weird that they're both knitters). She's incredibly kind to anyone working in retail.
For me it’s my lawful good human fighter that doesn’t believe in magic
I’ve always wanted to do something like that, the same way han solo doesn’t believe in the force even though he sees it constantly
I'm currently playing a neutral good surface drow fighter/barbarian that can't use magic despite being the son of a paladin and a druid.
Be hilarious to take mage slayer and make mages stop believing in the power of their magic as well.
Sirocco is a king. Shoutouts to Sirocco: the one who will fight for those who otherwise have no one.
My feels exactly
A male drow that saw past the delusions and abuses of Loth's teachings of the matriarchal of society of the underdark he escapes his slavery and throws himself before the most violent and patriarchal society he can find. The Orcs. Grumsh one eye enjoys his pleading for vengeance and splits him down the middle. One half drow elf the other half orc. Now, Denver the spliced one, seeks the gain power in the overworld and bring the underworld to its knees rescuing his brothers fathers and forefathers and punishing his sisters mothers and foremothers.
So does did Grumsh also make him blind in one eye?
I came up with the idea of a Drow Ranger names Drizzt.
He has absolutely no connection to Drizzt Do'Urden and is VERY annoyed that he is confused with the more famous Drizzt.
"Do you have any idea how long Drizzt was alive before he became famous? The name isn't even that uncommon! My parents had never even heard of him when they named me! Ranger is a super common profession! I am not copying him, damn it!"
I have SO many, but I hope that they'll be able to be made into characters at some point. Some of my personal favorites include:
The Tar Monster from Scooby-Doo (a human swarmkeeper ranger whose "swarm" is flavored to be black slimes.
A guy named "Necro Mancer" but isn't actually a necromancer.
A hexblade whose weapon had split her soul in half, so she changes personalities at different times; one side is kind, quiet, and meek, the other confident, violent, and rebellious.
A tiefling born of a succubus and was forced by society to become a slutty bard, but actually HATES being the slutty bard.
A random cartographer who saved a night gaunt from dying, so Nodens (a Great Old One who is NOT actually evil) makes the cartographer into a reluctant warlock to help people.
A bronze dragonborn barbarian who took the Path of the Ancestral Guardian, but instead of a horde of ancestral spirits, it's just one spirit; his mother, an ancient bronze dragon.
A cleric who had been isekia'd to the D&D world, but after meeting the god of storms during her time to reincarnate, she fell in love with him, and uses a body pillow of her god as her holy symbol (in my defense, this one was taken from a joke in the cleric video of the Crap Guide series).
And finally, making a warforged with the Hollow One trait from Wildemount to make it a construct controlled by the soul of a dead kid. Making her a necromancer makes her into the Puppet from FNAF.
I got a LOT more, but these are some of my favorites.
A mute bard who's tongue was cut out after his song about a foolish king was taken personally by the king who hired him to perform. So he uses a magical lute that allows the user to flawlessly replicate sounds projected in their mind.
One of the concepts I have for my next character is an old lady, human, that wears a flowery sundress. She'd take the chef feat, which will let her bake cookies during rests to give to the party for some temp HP. She'd also be a Swarmkeeper ranger, and her swarm would take the form of waves of cats, a la crazy cat lady. I'd probably have her be a dual wielder, using cooking utensils as her weapons.
Not technically unused since I have played him one for a small test run, but I'll put it here anyway:
A028537 was created by a great empire as a living weapon, one amongst thousands of steel soldiers. While artificial in nature, these automatons are by all accounts alive, even posessing sentience though scholars argued wether they have souls.
A028537 served with distinction and was soon put in command of a squad, with flashy new software to boost his capabilities.
But one day, his squad was overwhelmed by a barrage of spells, one of which caused the earth beneath him to open up, burying him.
A full millenium and a half later, A028537 reawakened. But time had taken its toll.
The drive housing the unit's personality construct is irreparably corrupted, causing the machine to reboot in emergency mode, completely reverted to basic programming.
It now roams the world, seeking to return to an empire that fell a thousand years ago. Also it now goes by the name "Brick", a callsign it randomly generated because organics can never remember its serial number.
Mechanically, Brick is a third level Warforged Paladin with the Oath of Conquest, reflecting his advanced programming and hardcoded directives. I built him in a way that maximizes AC and by third level his AC is already at 20.
I ran combat with him once and he instakilled the first enemy with a smite, humbled any attempts to hit him and caused three other enemies to flee with his Conquering Presence (Channel Divinity option) and a good intimidation roll.
they're a warforged designed to look like an elf child since they were built as an assassin for a big group of merchants looking to take out any big threats, but they made the mistake of programming in a neural network (look it up its actually pretty cool) and he thus managed to develop some emotion and empathy and thus escaped and is now looking to further develop those emotions so he could be more "normal"
Whistling half orc Bardbarian named Smash Mouth, back up instrument percussionist as he beats on your armor with his club like your a giant cow bell.
Unused thus far, but I'm hoping for a chance to try this one out during our D&D 3.5 campaign within a few weeks. I rolled up a human Bard with 18 strength and unarmed combat and improve grappling as his 1st-level Feats. Rather than playing an instrument, I chose "public oration" for his bardic performance skill, and named him Maximus Maximoff. Basically, he's a pro- wrestler who inspires the party by cutting promos in the middle of battle but annoys them the rest of the time with his shameless self-promotion ("MAX TO THE MAX!! OH, YEAH!!"). Also, he's chaotic neutral, which allows him to switch back and forth between playing a babyface and a heel as needed.
Mine is a Tiefling Bard soon to be Bardbarian due to his past with humans and elves' discrimination against him and his mother. While his mother let that go, he's gained a deep resentment for humans and elves and will soon reach his breaking point, his fury awakening power gained from his ancestors' deal with devils. He wants, above all else, to prove to others that he can help, that he isn't to be feared and ostracized because he looks demonic and violent, and despite his hostility he does want the best for others one way or another.
0:28 i have a similar idea, 2 characters that have a combined soul, they can act independently of each other like normal characters and each can role(1 role for each character), but they have to be close to each other for the power to be effective(1 space of each other).
If they are not close together then both of their stats gets cut in half, the halved stats will be the same again once they get close together again.
If one dies the other will absorb the power and soul of the defeated partner, the defeated partner is perma-dead and the living partner gets a 50% stat boost in all categories.
I didn’t use this character idea because i have no one to play dnd with🥲
I like to give my characters obscure powers that will probably never come up. My very first character is a normal human, but he has the power called "Destiny Exemption." He is immune to destiny. He cannot be doomed to fail, but he cannot be destined for greatness either. He can't be part of some greate prophocy, and he cannot fall to a curse which alters his future. He has a go-lucky attitude, and knows he has this power. Because of this, he has the philosophy that he can succeed at anything because he can't be doomed to fail, but still gives it 100% in order to ge twhat he wants. He also believes that anyone can have a second chance and that anyone can choose their own path in life.
Oh, I have quite a few, which I've jotted down, here and there -
Sal - Half-Elf Arcane Trickster Rogue, who is on a quest to kill a High Elf Wizards that had murdered his parents.
Zena - (Female) Variant Human (or a Tabaxi reskinned to be more wolf-like than cat-like) Beastmaster Ranger - wanderer who really dislikes men that try to take women against their will.
Lokar Rune - Half-Orc Eldritch Knight - a Mercenary. Parents had been an Orc Warrior and a Human Healer that had to work together to deal with a common enemy.
"Felix" Flexing Mua Paws - Thief Rogue - likes locks and jewels, having lived with gnomes that worked on such things.
Joe Brown (somewhat inspired by my father) - Champion Fighter - A Farmer-turned-part-time-pit fighter, Joe fights to make money to buy medicine for his sick children and livestock.
Alan Lock (inspired by my brother) - Life Domain Cleric - a Doctor who prefers to heal those in need.
Doug Fox (inspired, in part, by my step-father) - a Ranger who is a Firefighter, handling Wild Fires.
Graker - Lizardman Bounty Hunter - took to capturing bandits, and other criminal trespassers, upon learning that such folk can be traded for cattle, goat, and chickens, which is useful during lean hunting times.
Slivinuss - Yuan-Ti Pureblood - a soldier whose Lord was killed, and his Commander was executed for his failure. He now seeks those responsible for dishonoring his commander.
Klang - Kenku Mercenary - an orphan who'd ben something of a squire to another mercenary, Klang had traveled by his Master's side for some time, until the man was murdered. Now he seeks those responsible, making sure that his name is the last thing they hear - Klang!
Zarif - Tiefling Celestial Warlock - Parents had been the leader of a large group of "monstrous" refugees, who had tried to get away from war. They encountered a lord who, after the group dealt with a certain bandit issue, had allowed the group to settle nearby. a Local Priest disliked this. Years later, Zarif encountered a priestess-in-training, and the pair became good friends. The Priest Really Disliked this. One day, the body of the Priestess was found, and a grief-stricken Zarif offered himself up to whomever helped him - a Unicorn appeared, restored the Priestess, and revealed the murderer to be the Priest himself, and sent him someplace fitting. The Unicorn then told Zarif that he was to spread to word of Tolerance to others, and the like.
Darklight - Drow/High Elf Mix - Father was a Drow criminal, named Umbro, that had left the Underdark, and liked to rob the wealthy for the fun of it, especially those who were notorious criminals themselves. Mother was a High Elf Bounty Hunter, named Solar, who tried to capture him. Umbro saw being chased by a female High Elf as a game. Solar saw it as a matter of pride to capture him - personal, racial, and professional. One day, the pair found themselves on a pirate ship, that wrecked in a storm on an island. The two were forced to work together to survive, dealing with the surviving pirates and dangerous beasts, and as time wore on, the barriers between the two dropped - the least being that of thief and thief-catcher, the greatest being that of Drow and High Elf. Rescue eventually came, and Umbro allowed Solar to bring him in. He escaped from prison after returning to the mainland, but it seems that he'd left something to remember him by. After Darklight was born, Solar would occasionally run into Umbro, especially when she was after dangerous criminals, and in a tight spot. In time, Darklight, who took after certain Drow traits, like Sunlight Sensitivity, followed in his mother's footsteps, and also has the occasional encounter with his father during tricky situations.
Fleetfoot - Centaur Monk - an entertainer who likes to turn prayers into songs.
Blinzk - a tiefling pirate captain, whom, due to a sea goddesses curse (as she wants his father's much beloved hat), Blinzk has to take to lowest position on any ship he's on, or trouble befalls the ship.
These are just but a few of the ideas I have.
I've never played, so all my concepts are unused, but I'll post my favorite one.
Two noble sisters, one being a sorceress and the other a wizard.
They are like day and night, the sorceress being an charismatic social person, while the wizard is a classic introvert smart nerd, but they still have a strong bond. Maybe I'll deepen this difference by giving the sorceress higher constitution and the wizard higher dexterity.
Growing up, the sorceress was favored by the parents, while the wizard was just there, almost unnoticed.
They had a private teacher, probably a wizard, maybe elven, who was the only one treating the sisters equally.
When the sorceress manifested her powers, that teacher helped training her, while, at the same time, teaching the wizard the arts of the arcane, without the parents bothering to check what he was teaching to her.
Fast forward several years, when the twins are adults and the teacher no longer employed.
The parents started involving their daughters in their affairs, where, despite her introvertion, the wizard showed her great intellect, proposing smart and efficient solutions and ideas.
All of them rejected by their parents, instead going for the, less optimal, and sometimes detrimental, proposals of the sorceress.
It didn't take long for the sisters to unite, with the help of a bit of magic, and so the sorceress was communicating the proposals of the wizard, the parents thinking they were hers.
One evening, after a long day of negociations with nobles in a faraway town, the four members of the family were ambushed by a small group of thugs.
Who were dealt with in a few seconds, as they weren't prepared to fight a single spellcaster, let alone two.
But, at that moment, the parents learned of the arcane powers of the daughter they thought powerless, and, as they thought of her as a worthless failure, they felt like it was making their favorite child less special, causing anger to appear into their hearts.
Seeing this reaction, both the sisters decided to leave, to find a way to make their parents proud of both of them, not only of one, and so started adventuring.
I haven't decided of the names and subclasses yet, neither if both are adventuring together, maybe played each by a player at the same time, or if they joined different parties, keeping one as a NPC/backup character for the other.
Rune Knight Kobold called "Squish Enemies" (AKA Squishy). This Allows them to go from Small to Large so I imagine it would pretty scary to see for the first time. They have a pike called a Storm Giant's Toothpick, and a Trident called a Hill Giant's fork, and a chain shirt made from bottlecaps. They're a Draconic UA Kobold and at lvl 4 will have the Gift of the Chromatic Dragon Feat. I have some backstory if you want to read it too!
My friend is DMing a campaign for us and It'll be my first time playing! So me being stupid and got the big inspiration, I made like 6 characters even though I'm probably going to play 1, maybe 2.
- A Half Elf rogue, who comes from a family of bards. His mom, a high Elf, was divorced by his dad, a human, who wanted to do more with his life since his children and wife will outlive him. This left her struggling. So in order to help his mom, he decides to steal. He just doesn't steal more than pocket change, and does more performances and cons than actual stealing.
- A Tiefling-Water Genasi druid who has two moms and after years of not going out and having any social interaction decides to go out and do stuff, (with her moms' permissions of course)
- A Satyr ranger who realized her son went out adventuring with his friends behind her back. So there she is, on her way to find her son by going with a party.
- A Dragonborn bard, himbo, also has a thing for eldritch abominations.
- A Tiefling paladin, who worships a celestial being. It filed down its horns due to personal and religious reasons.
- An Assimar fighter, (???????) Idk but they look like a biblically accurate angel personified (many sets of eyes, wings covering their face, feathers, etc.)
So this character was among my favorite to craft a backstory for, but sadly I only got to play him in three sessions between two separate campaigns. Still waiting for the day I can bring him to the table to see what a dm could develop for him. Hopefully that counts for this.
The inspiration was quite simple, I wanted to play a character that only has one arm, and the rest just came as a result of my crafting a story to accommodate it. Shall I begin?
Gar was the only son of a moderately well off couple who doted on him to a degree that most people can feel the embarrassment that only truly loving parents can cause. He was on the course to being a perfectly normal child until one day when he was eleven. The parents were awoken one night to hear awful screaming from Gar's room. He described the pain as numb but also burning more intensely than he had ever experienced before coming from just under his left arm. In his armpit they saw it, a small amorphous black Mark that emanated death itself.
The pain was constant and worse yet, constantly changing. Burning, numbing (as before), but then came bouts of pinching, aching; it radiated throughout the young boy's body.
His parents brought him before the town's local herbalist to ease the pain and maybe gain some insight into what this could mean. The herbalist could lower the pain to a more manageable level, but she had no idea what this mysterious Mark could be.
Over time the Mark began to grow and spread, and it became increasingly clear that it was not just skin deep. Over time his whole shoulder was overtaken by the Mark. He also began feeling pain in his ribs then coughing as it went deeper into his body. Eventually his left arm fell off entirely. While this terrified his parents, Gar was strangely relieved to have one less body part to feel pain in.
Nearly a year had passed since its appearance and Gar's folks spent all of their resources in contacting the churches across the country, searching for someone who could cure this, but no paladin's lay on hands nor cleric's lesser or even greater restorations did a thing. They tried everything short of Divine Intervention and the Wish spell in searching for a cure. The last of the clerics (highest rank in his order on the continent) provided two sets of medicine, one to ease his pain as much as possible for a time and the other being a painless poison for if they ever gave up and wanted to end his pain.
Before the arm had come detached there came a strange man, in a plague doctor's mask, who wished to conduct research on this new disease. Skeptical at first, his parents gave in as he offered pain medications, money, and the promise that if he were to find a cure, Gar would be saved. He only wished to be called "Doctor." When it became apparent that the arm would eventually fall off, the good Doctor paid a large sum of money to be able to take this sample back to his lab, as no blade seemed up to the task of removing even an inch of this infected flesh from the young boy's body. So one day off came the arm, and off went the Doctor to begin his research in earnest.
Some time after his 12th birthday, Gar's parents were on the verge of giving up. When one stormy night, a Stranger came knocking at the door. The Stranger refused to show their face, but the parents had already dealt with the Doctor. So this wasn't such a concern. What did catch their attention was the words and tone that came from the Stranger. "Your son is dying; I can prevent that." Such confidence was not something the parents were familiar with when dealing with the previous medical professionals.
The Stranger told them to wait outside his room and wouldn't take no for an answer. A minute passed, and Gar's voice rang out. Though they could not tell in the moment, this was the first time in a year that he sounded unstrained. Bursting through the door, his parents were only greeted by an open window, curtains in the wind, and their son, sitting up with gray scars across his body where the black Mark once was.
Gar panicked as he gasped for air and for the first time, felt no pain. His lungs were marred by the Mark, his arm, still gone, and his voice much more raspy than the last time he tried to speak, but still no pain.
He only refers to his prior affliction as "The Mark." Gar is now 18, and his parents have finally let him off the leash. Their boy had barely survived the unthinkable. So of course they didn't want him to leave the nest, but he felt a calling. Keeping his scars covered, he ventures out into the world.
You wouldn't take him for more than a child at a distance. The Mark had halted his growth and left him permanently weaker than he could be, but he has strength of spirit.
His goal? To seek the adventures that he by all rights should never have had the opportunity to go on. To help as many people as he could but with no intentions of being credited for his aid. Just as this Stranger had helped him with no thought of reward or glory. Gar would aim to follow such philosophy.
Lastly, Gar would ask in his travels, searching for any hint at who this Stranger could be so that one day he may thank this individual with a handshake.
Sorry for the novel there. Literally all of this came from the inspiration that I wanted to play a character that only had one arm. The idea for the Mark came from my own, thankfully brief, experience with the staff infection known as MRSA. It pretty much just slowly eats away at the cells of your body, spreading with no limits. Bones, skin, organs, MRSA will just chew through someone if it is left untreated. I know of people who have lost an eye to the infection and others who had it chew through their spine paralyzing them. Both of those cases particularly scared me as I had it on the skin of the small of my back and right under my eye. I got it treated early and haven't seen hide nor hair of it in years.
Part of the reason I enjoyed making Gar's backstory so much is that I was able to weave in many opportunities for the DM to expand on it. Who was the Stranger? The Doctor? Where is his arm now? Is the Mark a one time case, or have others experienced this pain?
Also I set it up so that I could get to the table and fill any roll needed within the party as we made our character sheets. The only class I couldn't really make fit would be barbarian as Gar is canonically very weak. Otherwise, need a frontline? He meditated to become one with his ki to aid for his lack of strength, or he studied fencing. Need a healer? Gar did see one thing about this Stranger, a holy symbol, and now he takes his oath to protect the innocent. Spellcaster? The Stranger offered a contract, and now Gar owes a debt to an other worldly power but doesn't know what the price was, or he studied magic as he was too weak to return to playing in the town like a normal kid, or this individual had powerful dragon blood or passed on what they saw as their own curse of wild magic.
The possibilities were endless and so was my excitement. Sadly, as I mentioned before, Gar has yet to see more than 10 hours of play time. Crossing my fingers that anyone actually even reads this whole thing. Gosh I over describe things.
TL:DR Boy gets magical disease that can't be cured, loses his arm to it, and then is saved by a Stranger in the night. Now he seeks to help others as the Stranger helped him.
holy shit that's a very cool story!!
A dual class thief/healer with a charlatan background. He would theatrically ‘heal’ people while pickpocketing them. I honed the thief skills first, getting to level 10 before focusing on the healer aspects until level 20. This made it seem like he actually began to pick up a few healing tricks throughout all his trickery.
I’ve got quite a few character concepts that I haven’t gotten to use yet. (mostly because I haven’t gotten to play D&D yet.)
Here’s one of them:
Nobody Smith a high elf rogue.
Born Mariel Dawnblade, he was part of the noble High-elf family of Dawnblade. He was well on his way to being a respected member of his family like his father and grandfather before.
However during his first assignment as leader of a joint band of Elf/Human/Dwarven rangers, The entire group was ambushed.
Things happen so quickly he was unable to tell who the enemies were, let alone how many. He tried to save his band, but in the end he was only able to barely save himself.
However the thing that would change him, was not the death of the people under his command. It was the disregard for his men by the higher ups. They were more concerned with his survival. The general in charge even said to him:
“The Sunblade family holds far more weight and importance than a bunch of nobodies.”
It was soon after this, that he left His old life behind. Wishing to find someway to make up for the lives lost and prove that no one’s life is unimportant.
Believe me when I say that I have plenty of unused character concepts and characters that I plan on playing as such as;
-a halfling bard with a magical instrument and must find the magical songs to go along with it like Zelda: Ocarina of Time
-an Aarakocra wizard who's the last of it's kind and is out searching for clues on where the rest of the race went
-a Dragonborn fighter who's missing an arm and is selectively mute from the abuse it had as a child
-a gnome sorcerer who was raised by dragons believe that he is a dragon and will use spells to prove that he is a dragon
I haven't named them yet, but one I was thinking was an old, senile Tortle Wizard with a monkey familiar (he has a strange obsession with primates) now he's already had many adventures, been all over the world, met nobles, kings, dragons ext. (Though he'd be a bit loopy and not remember any of it, and I'd use his horrible memory to explain why he's a lower level at the start.)
His whole background is designed so that at random, for better or for worse, some NPCs would recognize him. Like maybe he had a drink and a laugh with a litch so they're pretty chill, maybe he saved the king's daughter at one point, or cheated at poker against a gold dragon leaving them miffed, ext. They seem like a very fun concept to play, I just need to find a party/dm who'd be okay with his brand of loopy (and if this sounds overbearing, he's rather mellow despite his loopyness and is more reactive than active in his old age)
Keylah Cofferson, I came up with this character during the time of the Dark Time of DnD(4th Edition,{shudder}). I found a half mimic homebrew race on a DnD site and fell in love with the concept. She would be a thief who specializes in climbing and surprise attacks. But the real charm would be she Never breaks into places, she would use her mimic shape shifting abilities to turn into a chest of "treasure", and after being carried inside. Then she would stuff her self with loot and break out (so much easier). Her sneak attack would be the same, box up, wait for enemy, and 'POP' goes Keylah! (Her Thieves Guild nickname would be Jack or Jacky.)
The thing is she would never keep all the money she would get though her exploits. Instead she would send it to her parents and her many many many siblings. For in her backstory, her parents were forced together by an evil wizard looking for someway to improve his body (think Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz), a fight, a kolold wearing a fedora, and a huge explosion later, her parents are now attached at the hip as in fused. Several months after that Keylah popped out, turns out mimics reproduce by budding and by combining with something else, her poor elf mom is now the DnD equivalent of the poor woman who lives in a shoe. So Keylah being the oldest, sets off to keep food on her family's table, as well in her half-elf/half-mimic/full mimic siblings bellies (if only to at least save the local wildlife) and ease the burden's of her mother. Her Father does help and has become the loving "man" he is, but with the conjunction/pregnancies, they just can't work. I even was going to ask the DM if I could add a dotting grandma who is a High Elf noble in the highest court, thought it be funny roleplay.
Hey all! Back from vacation and thought I’d leave an update from the positive thing happening in life I left on the dumb rolls video.
My gf is now my fiancée!! :D

Outstanding!
Congratulations man!
An isekai. The roommate of a D&D player, who tried to tune out the weekly half-day sessions while doing homework.
Warlock with a Genie patron who summoned him to grant the King’s wish, Pact of the Tome that occasionally (roll History at a disadvantage) shows him snippets of the official material from his memories.
The wish from the King was “I wish for a hero who could solve the kingdom’s biggest problem.” But while the King was thinking of the BBEG, the Genie realized it was a lack of quality agriculture and safe transportation. So it brought the PC, who was taking some classes in college about engineering after raising enough money on the family farm.
Pixie Paladin with hammer space and the ability to somehow wield swords 15x his size. Big booming voice, and always in golden armor.
Pathfinder (1st edition) with the optional Sandy Petersen's Cthulhu Mythos rules. I built a Dreamlands Cat Summoner, with an eidolon in the form of a female angel complete with a flaming sword. Raziel (the cat) and Felicia (the angelic being) were both quite evil, and had founded what they called "The Church of the Very Bad Idea." Essentially they leveraged Felicia's angelic appearance to run cons and convince people to take actions against their best interests, stirring up trouble wherever they went and staying only long enough to be amused by the horrific results, then legging it with whatever cash or treasure wasn't nailed down. "Solve all your problems by summoning Friendly Demons! Mercury, the miracle cure! Prophecy and fortune telling to guide your love life!" Since Raziel was a Summoner, they could fake most of the magic he cast so that it looked like Felicia did it, leading people to assume he was her familiar or animal companion. I did get to play these two for a one-shot once, but I'd really enjoy bringing them back if I ever got the chance.
I've got one. Glitch, a Warforged Wild Magic Sorcerer. They were build to be a protector bot but many years of being offline in the Fey Wild has imbued thier metal with Wild Magic. When they wake up, they have no memory of who they are or how they got there. Their only clue is a name etched in his arm, the name of a fellow party member.
two come up to mind
a druid who at a young age was playing and got lost in the fey wilds where a arch fey took them in as their own raising them and teaching them magic till they were ready to venture off and take care of themselves how ever still owning something in return
a dragonborn draconic bloodline sorcerer who is actually a real dragon but was cursed by the gods to be permanently stuck in a lesser form until they learn a valuable lesson and redeem themselves earning forgiveness for some of the things they may have done
I have two:
First up: Eren Hal Galiek, a disowned noble who has joined the party to attempt to rebuild his reputation. The thing is, he has a VERY short temper, and whenever he gets angry, he completely loses it and attacks everything in sight. After which, he politely apologizes for his outburst. His class? Barbarian.
Next, and by far my favorite: Alkahest, or Alka, for short. He's a cat. Literally just a cat. Not a Tabaxi, just a cat. He was the familiar of a wizard/alchemist and during an experiment, the wizard was teleported somewhere, and Alka was given a more humanoid form. Now, he is a socially awkward rogue that can't resist something shiny and is searching for his master.
Mossth, the Goliath Druid of the mountain who gets all his casting requirements from the plants that grow around his body, makes him scared of fire though.
I like that. May I use it?
I joined my friends Homebrew campaign with his party having already played for a few months. In the campaign elves were exiled from the continent due to them being tyrannical and generally bad guys. So normally my friend wouldn't let anyone play as an elf but he had a great idea and pitched it to me. He said i could play an elf that was actually a dwarf that got Reincarnated as an elf via the Reincarnate spell. Jumping on this idea i made a shadow sorcerer with a background that the Shadow Realm was a negative energy sentient creature in its own plane. When my character got reincarnated into an elf the Shadow Realm took all the old wives tales that mothers around the continent told their children and basically made him an avatar of those tales. It had also been established that vampires were not a thing in this campaign, just did not exist. Basically all the wives tale portrayed elves as cold as ice evil beings that could transform into bats and would send wolves to gobble up children. With the help of a Cloak of the Bat and the natural abilities of a Shadow Sorcerer i made a really interesting character surrounding old European folk tales about vampires with out being a vampire. First session the party gets into a fit of rage tries to kill me with TNT and basically spends the ENTIRE session trying decide how they want to kill me since i couldn't be trusted as some dirty evil elf. (The fact that my old dwarf body was still lying around didn't help them from assuming i actually killed the dwarf). Safe to say, today (Next session) i am happily going to introduce them to my kenku necromancer who is a massive history buff and with a personal note that this party is WAY more dedicated to roleplaying than me or the DM expected. (We are all still friends who do not play dirty dirty elves....ever.)
Hoping to use this one soon, once the DM comes back from his trip out of state. The campaign I'm going into is a seafaring, island hopping adventure, and so I pulled out my bare bones concept for Sea of Opportunity and fleshed him out.
Sea was kidnapped young during a pirate raid. The incident was so traumatic for him that he lost most memory of his former life, and was readily accepting of the pirates (who were going to grow him out to sell his pelt on the black market, until they realized what a help he was) as his new family. Normally he's a bubbly, helpful member of the crew, but occasionally (at the call of the DM to roll) his second personality takes hold. Cannons on Deck is a surly and highly aggressive fellow, who refuses to do anything that isn't relating to the ships weapons, but he's the best shot with his namesake and so the crew tolerates him in most cases, and welcomes his expertise during battles.
Sea and Cannons are a Trickery domain cleric, praying to the split Goddess Tyche and her daughters Tymora and Beshaba. Sea is right handed, wears a ring of Tymora and is the much better card player (he smiles ALL the time, so he must have a good hand, right?), while Cannons is left handed, and wears a ring of Beshaba (best to ward off Beshaba's influence when operating something that could crush you or blow up in your face and kill you in short order). Also planning on using their eyepatch to warn my teammates that the switch has happened. Sea wears it on the left eye, while Cannons wears it on the right. I am 100% making an 'eyepatch' to stick to my glasses and swap it over when I change personalities.
I’ve so many! Would take me a lifetime to put them all in one post lol.
DM?
@@thegreatandterrible4508 I wish I had the time to DM :(
A low level chaotic-neutral rogue is a small time theif/tomb raider until one day he steals a a cursed artifact possesed by a lawful-nuetral entity. The artifact is bound to him and now whenever he witnesses (by any senses) someone doing harm to the innocent his body is compelled to use paladin powers and attacks against the perpetrator. When he witness an unlawful killing, he becomes fully possesed, transforms into a stony earth elemental, and flies into a barbarian rage untill the culprit is dead.
While transformed the elemental shouts lawful-neutral cliches (citing laws broken, condemning as a foul degenerate, crime doesn't pay, etc...). Because of the discomfort of this arrangement, the rogue has taken to begging enemies to not harm the innocent (like Bruce Banner, but it's about justice instead of his own feelings).
(I'm also thinking of him being a hexblade warlock, his pact with this paladin/barbarian in his artifact. Two hybrid characters in one)
This character's condition will lead to some difficulty/confusion on adventures. He will have to listen to legality behind dungeon raids etc (IF you go for lawful *neutral*) and sticking his nose into any bad business he hears in town.
His name is Vagabond. He was initially going to be in the wild west and the artifact he steals would give him guns that materialize from dust (quickdraw), and maybe the power to travel on the wind. And he would get possesed and turn into a rock monster when he sees harm to innocents. I just adapted him here to a DnD type of format.
Please mention my user handle if you include this character.
I have a couple characters on the backburner for some (hopefully) upcoming campaigns, but this is probably the one I'm most excited for:
I haven't had the chance to roleplay a character of any Evil alignment, so I thought I'd go whole-hog and try to roleplay a serial killer who A) Isn't a murder-hobo and B) Is forced to do good via having to keep up an act or by the powers they are given.
TL;DR: Salazar Severan is a serial killer who's unique vampiric infection gives him the ability to heal others. He hates his vampirism and wants to master it or be rid of it.
Salazar Severan is a psychopath. He often puts on a charming and friendly demeanour, but in truth Salazar does not care for the thoughts and feelings of others. It is not entirely known why Salazar turned out the way he did, as he was raised by wealthy parents and had a spoiled childhood.
When he reached 16, he started working at a surgery in his town. He enjoyed studying the inner workings of the body, marvelling at the interconnectivity of muscles and skin, and the tightly-knit organ systems. Shortly after, Salazar developed a morbid curiosity for "further study" of the body. He would later "accidentally" kill patients in order to perform autopsies. At 18, he disappeared from his town, leaving a trail of gruesome murders in his path as he travelled. During one murder, Salazar had unknowingly killed a "Transfuser" Vampire (Homebrew Vampire class/subclass) and caught that particular strain of vampirism from them.
The "Transfuser" Vampire is a vampire who is able to share their blood with others to heal them and can cast many beneficial spells (AKA Diet Cleric). For a serial killer like Salazar, this is torture.
Salazar is now eternally 36 years of age, but also burdened by the other effects of his vampirism. Salazar now seeks to either rid himself of the infection or learn to fully control it, travelling around doing odd jobs for people to get by, and he doesn't care how many bodies he needs to "examine" along the way.

I have a couple unused character concepts that I think are interesting. The first is a Paladin named Platano (Spanish for banana). He is a Chaotic Good protector Aasimar but very clumsy, which is why he has been cursed by Tyr. Back when Platano was a soldier, he was out on patrol and saw a Kobold accosting a young boy. Platano rushed into action to save the boy from the Kobold! During his haste to aid the boy, Platano slipped on a banana peel and accidentally killed the child. The child, it turned out, was training with the Kobold to one day become a knight in service to Try. Tyr became enraged that an innocent child was slain and cursed Platano until he can redeem himself (I have not figured out the specifics of this). What was the curse you ask? Since it was a banana that caused Platano to kill the child, Platano has been cursed to look like a giant banana to everyone who sees him. He can see himself the way he used to be, but everyone else sees a banana with arms and legs but no other discernable features.
The other character is Hardric Severclaw - a sentient hat piloting a mannequin! After a catastrophic experiment, four students/staff at Targsharts Academy of Magic had their souls ripped out of their bodies and trapped in an old, enchanted hat. As a result, “the hat” is now sentient. Each of the personalities residing within the hat are aware of the each other and are constantly fighting for control of the new entity, although on occasion the personalities have been known to agree to relinquish control to one another when the situation calls for it (such as needing the use of specific knowledge or skills). The names of the individuals that combined to create the hat have never been revealed, though it is assumed that it’s chosen name, Hardric Severclaw, is an amalgamation of the names of the merged personalities. Hardric will neither confirm nor deny this assumption.
To disguise its existence as a sentient hat, Hardric has assumed control over a mannequin (Warforged). To help keep up the ruse, the hat has an attached cloth facemask, showing only the eyes of the mannequin, to give the appearance that the mannequin is alive, not just a talking hat. It is unclear if Hardric is seeking to reverse the accident, however Hardric seems to be generally content with its new existence.
The four souls making up Hardric came from representatives of each of the four Targsharts Dormitory Taverns: Griffon, Basilisk, Roc, and Giant Badger. Because each tavern values different qualities in its members, the morality alignment of each personality is different, thus Hardric’s knowledge, skills and moral alignment will shift based on the dominant personality. I will randomly roll a D4 to see which soul is in charge, and plan on playing the character with different voices/accents for each of the trapped souls
Mine was a plague doctor with a pet crow. The whole thing is, it was actually undead. It was just a ghost possessing a dead body. This is why he hate churches, because he'd "die" if he enters one. I always thought it was a good idea, but never had the chance to use them
I've been waiting to play this guy in a less serious mid-level campaign for some time now. Names and locations are fill in the blank for whatever campaign he's plopped into:
Farum was born to [FATHERS NAME] and [MOTHERS NAME], an aristocratic high elf family in [LOCATION]. Despite being a High Elf by blood, he is notably orc-like in his appearance, intelligence, and strength. Many townsfolk believed that his true father was an Orc, though his parents insisted that he was simply born cursed or deformed. This rumor is actually true, but only [MOTHERS NAME] knows that he is truly the son of [ORC NAME].
Farum had a difficult childhood, mostly owing to the fact that he is incredibly dim. During his school years, he was dubbed "Tardcock" by his classmates and, unfortunately, took this as a point of pride and began to refer to himself as such. He was taken out of school shortly after and instead taught from home.
At 17, Farum ran away from home leaving a poorly written letter describing his reasons such as "mommy and daddy mean, Tardcock no like fancy parties" and "Tardcock go to live with aminals. Tardcock like aminals". He then went to go live in the wilds of [LOCATION] and, despite being incredibly stupid, thrived on account of his excellent survival skills. There he spent the next few years, occasionally fighting off bandits and eating many things.
He has an INT and WIS of 4 and will become a barbarian.
I've recently blended two character concepts I've been wanting to play for a one shot. We barely had any time to actually play the one shot so I'm counting it; One character is a human cursed by a higher being and having his soul stuffed into a warforged. The other is a stuffed animal that was awakened and follows the orders of a lesser deity to protect their "chosen one" and otherwise do their bidding.
The final character concept I landed on was a 2 foot tall warforged paladin named Theodore D Ursus that has hides and cotton integrated into his body instead of heavy metal armor. His soft exterior and calm approach to combat instills hope in most who have the honor of calling him friend. (He's the Teddy Bear who watches over you at night dialed to a 10.)
What are my best concepts? All of them. I haven't gotten to play yet. But a few I look forward to playing are:
1.an old elf ranger (varis) who has grown to love the life he has and wishes to explore the world so he has stories to tell his deceased wife and daughter when he sees them again
2. A draconic blood sorcerer (kisa)who was raised by his grandfather (a gold dragon disguised as a human). One day his grandfather leaves to find kisa's parents. After a few years of him being gone, kisa begins showing signs of his draconic liniage and sets out to learn more about his ancestry.
And lastly
3. A drow wizard (rei, pronounced ray) who is scared of the dark. She left the underdark due to her fear and was taken in by a human wizard (callen). She is the youngest character (at least for her race) that I've made so far.
I've thought of a character who is a failed clone / semilacrum of a BBEG mage. The cloning procedure was interrupted or something, leaving them with low level abilities, a confused mix of memories (DM's discretion), their own free will and an identity crisis. I like the idea to explore that the character has all these mixed feelings such as love for children or a partner they actually have a relation with... would they be jealous and vengeful or still want the best for them sacrificing their own desire to be reunited... or would they just drink it all away joining an adventuring party to find new purpose (whilst hoping they don't get dispelled I guess)!
A great old one warlock who is slowly being driven insane and any time he fails a roll it will be flavord as being caused by his hallucinations
One of mine is a swashbuckler rogue who is afraid of the ocean. Not that creative but seems fun
What reason made them affraid of the ocean? Is it traumatic experience or simply thalasophobia without specific reasons?
Or even better, do they have strong reason to avoid ocean not because of fear but prohibition/curse? Would they touch or go anywhere near the ocean they might unearthed their darkest secret like hidden persona or dark power inherited from their lineage?
Your consept isn't anywhere close to "uncreative" it just unpolished, you might want to add some defining feature using your initial thought as stepping stone by simply asking mundane question & *baam* you got interesting character.
My unused character concepts are ones I plan to use in future campaigns. I love character creation, as a writer that seems obvious, so I enjoy putting detail into every aspect of these characters. Case in point my favorite concept: a schizophrenic barbarian. He isn't a meathead by any means, he's a fairly rational person. However, he is an undiagnosed schizophrenic man. I need to do more research on schizophrenia so please correct me if anything is wrong/suggestions. He would be an ex-adventurer whose entire party was killed off by the BBEG. Since then, he has shut himself away, plagued by the voices of his previous teammates. He believes this is a punishment by his god for his cowardice. His lack of adventure for so long has made him rusty (making him on par to a level one adventurer). Whenever he goes into Rage, he loses rational thought, allowing the voices to take control of him. He would go into Path of the Ancestral Guardian, which would make these voices become actual hallucinations. I'm really excited to keep developing him and eventually use him.
My best build, John 'Silvertongue" is technically a stealth ranger, but is min-maxed for being able to speak the most languages without downtime, and the observant feat. He's an anthropologist who loves talking and stories, and doesn't really fight. He has higher cha/wis/int than his dex/con.
A Goliath Hexblade/Shadow Sorcerer. He is a Far Traveler from Sossal, and lived in a city built into the Great Glacier, much like the one you build in Frostpunk.
(For those who have never played, it's a city building/survival game where you have to keep your people warm and happy in an everlasting freeze.)
My character was a part of an expedition team. We were exploring some ruins when he got separated from his team, getting trapped in a ritual room. He couldn't get out, and the rubble was too heavy to clear manually, so he had to wait for his team to get help. To take his mind off of the cold, and to satiate his curiosity, he started looking into the ritual they performed here. He ended up accidentally performing the ritual, opening a portal to the Shadowfell. He stepped in and found himself in a library, surrounded by books. He started reading a book titled "The Secret to Infinite Power." As he read it, he realized that this could be used as a way to keep the city heated indefinitely, so he took the book back through the portal. It took him directly to the city, but weeks had passed, and he was presumed dead, so he was reduced to a coal miner. He worked on the coal mines by day and by night, because as long as he saw the book he didn't need sleep, he started making the ritual needed to keep the city heated indefinitely. He put too much power into it and the ritual ended up burning the city to the ground, killing most of the people there and leaving the others mad enough to kill him. So he ran. All the way to his new adventuring party.
Got a couple, so I’ll try to be short with them.
Great Old One Pact of the Tome Warlock…who was supposed to pick a Fiend as his Patron. His Tiefling parents were both in the service of demon lords and, when he came of age, offered him as a pawn to an up-and-coming Baroness of Hell for infernal political reasons. However, he’s really cowardly and doesn’t like demons, as he finds them both scary and manipulative. He tries to run off to a wizard academy, but he’s thrown out of there because, well, he’s a Tiefling. As he sleeps under the night sky, he falls into a twisted dream filled with jet black tentacles and many mouths of gnashing teeth. He’s introduced to Shubb-Niggurath, the Eternal Mother, who wants to “marry” him. She is looking to further her influence on the Material Plane, and chose him to be her link and the basis for new children of hers. Upon waking up, he knows that he has a choice to make. Either serve a demon, or this thing that invaded his dreams. He chooses Shubb-Niggurath, and must now journey around “preparing the wedding” while avoiding all contact with his parents and the demon hordes.
Professor Phineas Flagstaff. An Elf rogue/bard who figures out how to grow facial hair. All his life, he’s never known of an Elf with facial hair. So after some magical fiddling, he finally grows his own mustache, after many attempts and giving himself bushy eyebrows. So he traveled to the nearest university to let the world know of his discovery. But when they ask him to reproduce the magic, he can’t remember. Ostracized as a laughingstock, he now seeks a way to figure out how he did it in the first place. And yes, this is my excuse to play Groucho Marx in D&D.
Count Nicklaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf. If I ever get into a CoS game, this is the character I’m using. A Life Domain Cleric hailing from Barovia, whose family is good friends with Count Strahd. From an early age, he dedicated himself to religion and service, seeking a deep connection to his people and his god. When he finds out that Strahd is a vampire, he’s shocked as to how such a public figure and close family friend could be such a monstrosity. When Nicklaus gets too close to spilling the beans, Strahd banishes him from Barovia. Now Nicklaus must find a way to save the people of Barovia from Strahd’s tyranny, while trying to figure out how he turned in the first place and how to prevent it from happening again. And yes, this is based on the historical figure by the same name.
Well, I failed at being short, but I hope you enjoyed!
This is a character that I've kept on the backburner for quite a while: Ashei Attam-Isier. In short, she is a Scourge Aasimar with the physical appearance of a Tiefling, and a multiclass Scout Rogue/Storm Herald Barbarian. I won't write down her backstory here (there's a lot there; she's intended to start around 10th level), but I will bring up the important info when context is necessary.
Ashei is driven towards bettering the world around her, even putting her life on the line if necessary. However, this is hidden by her reserved and aloof demeanor, which she puts on in order to make it harder for people to get close to her, for fear of losing them like she has so many others-the deaths of her mother and the nomads she later adopted as her surrogate family being the most impactful. Behind this facade, she is passionate and fiercely loyal to her friends.
In addition to being a defense mechanism to push people away, Ashei's stoicism also serves a more practical purpose. Due to her hybrid nature, her Celestial and Fiendish blood fights within her veins, causing her considerable mental torment, which she attempts to mitigate by limiting her emotions. This causes her to have quite severe mood swings and a constantly shifting perception of the people and events around her. However, her willpower is strong enough that even in her darkest moods, she can usually refrain from doing anything that she will later regret. Usually.
Since I've been unable to play this character due to a variety of reasons, I've decided to actually rework her into one of the main characters in a comic series I'm currently making. That way she doesn't go to waste, as I quite like her.
Also, I feel that I should mention that Ashei is heavily inspired by Marceline Abadeer from Adventure Time, with additional elements taken from about a dozen other sources. And yes, she does have a princess waiting for her somewhere out there.
Monk Cleric with mobile feat, most levels in monk. Really fast, attacks and runs away, annoys enemies, and cant really get hit but also cant hit hard.
I have a few unused ideas.
1) Buddy just Buddy no last name. He was a human druid but he was not always human. He started off his life as a small yellow hair dog. He was a stray and was captured by a powerful wizard along with other dogs. While there he falls in love with another dog in the cage next to him named Emmie. The two never saw each other thanks to the thick stone wall between them but they would bark (speak) to each other. Then one day Emmie is taken away and he never saw her again. Soon it becomes his turn and the wizard takes him to his lab. For days the wizard cast spells on his changing his mind and body until one day he found himself human. The Wizard tells him how he will spend the rest of his life as a slave serving her. Buddy is clothed and starts training on how to clean and tend to his master he still didn't see Emmie though the wizard kept males and females separated. In time Buddy found a way to escape and runs off into the thick woods around the wizard's tower. He ran for days and finally passed out. He wakes up a week later in a simple cabin in the woods with an old woman. This was May Evergreen an archdruid of the circle of this forest. She nursed him back to health and remove his collar and shackles. Buddy spend years by her side learning how to be a druid and when he was ready he set out to see the world and of course find Emmie the only love he ever had.
2) Xchagger Goldenscale is not their real name the name they were born with is Nightdream Eversong but they gave up that name. Xchagger is a changling who was living with their mother and father on a farm. They just wanted to live a simple life but one day their neighbors discovered who they were. Scared by the fact they were changlings the neighbors formed a mob and stormed the farm. Nightdream escapes because their mother and father gave up their lives to delay the mob. Nightdream ran into the woods until they ran into a Dragonborn the same age as them. The boy named Xchagger was the son of a local noble. He ran away from home because his father was forcing him to join the military as every man in his family had done. Xchagger was a peaceful soul who didn't want to fight. This is when Nightdream came up with an idea he will become Xchagger and join the military for Xchangger and the original Xchagger can go to his farm and live his life in peace. The Dragonborn agree and they switch clothing and lives. Now the original Xchagger was untrusted by the neighbors at first but after a test where they put a frog on his head and it didn't turn color, they decided he was not a shapeshifter and allow him to live in peace. While Nightdream became Xchagger and joined the military rising in rank until he was a personal guard for the king. The king one day sent him on a quest to find a McGuffin (DM can choose what it is) he left the palace on this quest.
3) The people cheer his name, women throw themselves at him, and many songs are made of his deeds. He is a true hero none is his equal, but this isn't Peanut but his twin brother Jelly. Both of them are fairies. Jelly was born first by a minute and at that minute the stars were perfect to mark him as the chosen one. Peanut on the other was not marked. He grew up in the shadow of his twin as he was hepped with prised while Peanut on the other hand was always looked down on even in his own family. He grew up hearing "why can't you be more like your brother" Until one-day Peanut just snapped and attack his brother almost killing him. When his sense came back to him he was horrified that he and run away from home ashamed. He might hate he was not the chosen one but he did love his brother.
Mine is Penelope Teddy Bear, an awakened stuffed animal who wanders through life seeking her purpose, while tinkering as an artificer to protect herself from her greatest fear.... fire.
The one I want to try and play, is a character with a severe allergy to ______ , but his allergies trigger a wild surge. I was thinking of rolling on the Ranger racial enemy table or allergen source, but really, anything that you'd encounter every so often, but not at every turn. Maybe rolling a con save to try and stifle the sneeze, or something, but I think it'd be rad to sneeze yourself into, and out of problems.
Lunk, I know not original but he seemed so fun to play, a half elf barbarian juggernaut/warlock of genie who had few few thoughts, but when he focused on something he would take a straight course to get to it, even if that means going through the walls of buildings. He had a little glass bottle with a cork stopper and his pact of the chain familiar was a fairy that would tell lunk where to go and what to hit. Lunk was a good boy, but puzzles often stumped him, though he would solve them with brute force. Man I wish I could played him.
Pathfinder character but still
A ninja who calls himself “The Monsoon” and speaks in the third person. As a child he was part of a traveling theatre troupe or circus and was playing with his friends when wild beasts attacked. The trauma of seeing his friends die in front of him caused him to go crazy and become lost in the character he was playing. There may or may not be members of his family still trying to find him.
Why do I sense faint MGR in there?
A barbarian that thinks they are a spellcaster. They just don’t realize how strong they are and attribute it to magic. For example if they knock someone out with their war mace they will think they cast sleep on them.
Bonus points they actually are a spellcaster flavored as a barbarian
I have a pair of Halfling twins named Roscoe and Raphael Brightmoon, who are a Way of the Astral Self Monk. After inheriting their parent's debt to a criminal organisation, these two Halflings bought a trench coat and pretended to be a human together. The halfling on top, Roscoe, will be doing most of the fighting, but when I activate any of my subclass abilities, Raphael will join the fight. For mechanical sake, the twins will be connected by a Warding Bond from birth, only for the sake of them essentially sharing HP, and not gaining the other benefits of the spell. This, along with higher level subclass abilities, can be explained by Raphael being a Sorcerer with a disposition for abjuration. (Disclaimer: Not actually taking a level in Sorcerer, it is for flavor's sake.)
His name is Nesparax Rydlokiil (ride-loe-keel). He is a dragonborn way of the ascending dragon monk/Druid (haven’t figured out the subclass yet). He was born the son of a mighty dragon who rivaled the most feared dragon in the land. However, his father shunned him for not being a full dragon like himself. Nesparax would spend years of his life trying to learn to become a full dragon, but to no avail. He simply did not have the power to preform such a feat. He would join a group of adventurers, hoping to find the answer to his question and possibly pleasing his father. Fortunately, I will be playing this character soon, and he will serve as the motivation to beat the BBEG. Turns out that this character would work perfectly for my brother’s campaign, because my father’s rival dragon could easily by the BBEG’s (half dragon evil king’s) mother.
An Air Genasi Warlock whose patron is one of the Air Djinn of his kingdom. He doesn't know which Djinn formed the contract, but as the adventure goes along, he slowly learns that it was his father that formed the contract in order to be a part of his boy's life (full on Goofy Movie style). Turns out the Djinn of his kingdom are barred from having families as their elder (an ancient air Djinn) saw the concept to be too distracting to beings as high and mighty as they, but papa Djinn had a family in secret and used the Warlock patronage as a loophole to be able to spend time with his boy.
[5:42] RhenalyrrVandor2819: Holy crap, this is my Character! It is an honor to be featured in a MrRipper Video!
Too bad I just used this Character last week in a one-shot with the name of "Eula Lharast". She did a great job intimidating enemies with environmental hazards despite having low Charisma. XD
Still, thanks, Rip-Daddy. :D
10:20 That is easily the coolest character concept I’ve ever heard of. Sentry man and S Mart man make one hell of a combo.
A skeleton dressed as a desperado cowboy that would randomly approach people all sinister like, sing a song about a bunch of the dangers in the area and run away screaming.
Allow me to introduce you all to Slobber and Baal (pronounced as "Ball"). Wall of text incoming.
Baal is a Paladin who was sent on a holy quest to recover a minor relic during his preparatory stage, prior to committing to an oath. He had happened to take a wrong turn during that quest and, as a result of circumstances, ended up becoming cursed. The curse, in it's most simple act, turned him into a sentient rubber ball. As a ball, he can be attuned to by any willing creature, so long as they are not fiends or fey, and he cannot perform any act not possible by an ordinary ball while not attuned to. The first creature to show any interest in the seemingly innocuous rubber ball was, of course, Slobber, a stray happy-go-lucky dog, who promptly spent some time playing with the ball, attuning to him (it?) in the process.
Baal, now having been attuned to by Slobber (and constantly being carried around in his mouth), is now able to perform actions, though limited (haven't put too much time into figuring out all the specific mechanics at this point, so bear with me, feedback appreciated). As a ball, he is treated as a finesse melee weapon dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage, and can be thrown 60/120, and counts as his own spellcasting focus (and focus for Slobber, though not likely to be used as such). He is able to use a mage hand variant to interact with things around him, such as carrying objects, and throwing himself at enemies to deal damage. Slobber will, naturally, chase Baal anytime he gets thrown. He is also able to cast specific spells as standard, will have access to some variant spells, and can use most class abilities as standard. Touch spells can be used with Baal's mage hand, so long as the target is within 5ft of Baal or Slobber, self-cast spells can be applied to either Baal or Slobber, and other spells can be cast from the position of either Baal or Slobber.
He can communicate telepathically with Slobber (giving simple commands that Slobber would understand, interpreted freely by the GM), and may(?) use other methods to communicate with other individuals (such as the Message spell), however any attempt to communicate his cursed nature is perceived as unintelligible gibberish. Baal gains health points normally with levels, and can be healed normally, but is treated as broken and unconscious when he hits 0hp (giving Slobber disadvantage on skill checks, because sad), and instant death applies normally. He does not need to be stabilised while broken, and can be repaired in the same way as any typical magic item (restoring him to 1hp). If the curse ends while he is broken, he instantly dies. Slobber levels with Baal, and can gain health and stat boosts alongside him.
The basic idea is that Slobber and Baal will outwardly appear as though an "ordinary" (talking?) dog has been granted the powers of a paladin, and that Slobber just really loves his fun rubber ball. Really hoping to be able to use this concept someday, as I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.
Mine is a Plasmoid, Artificer, but instead of a slime, its ferrofluid.
I dig that vibe!
this is a gold mine
Not sure if i would get to play this character later. Pathfinder druid with Halcyon archetype. Zekle was raised by lizardfolk (or Tuatarans) in a isolated region of a jungle. Brought in from a group of explorer's who had been attacked by beasts. He wears a skull mask entwined with leather to stay on his face. This was given to him by a reptial agathion when he was younger giving him more inclusion into the tribe. This mask awakened his druidic connection when he bonded with it during a group ritual to the draconic deities living far past the mountain ranges. Using this power he worked on how to reach the dragon deities physically. This was the use of daily stoneshapes to work on a collapsed tunnel. This eventually led to a breach in the village wards on the inside of the tunnel leading to a group of demons invading and taking souls of villagers before he could fix the mistake. Mourning the loss he went on his intended journey to not let the dissolution of their souls go to waste. He tracks the demons wake of destruction so to reseal them. For later plotpoint, was thinking the skull mask was a subtle way of the agathions to fight evil outsider influence with generational goals. This mask might awaken later to be a green draconal agathion as it was slain by a high level demon defending the village inside the warded sections.
Reylin (Flick) Featherheart, she is a human darts shark swindler that is notorious for her skill in dart and knife throwing tavern challenges. Unfortunately she's made some enemies, a bit of debt, and a few upset guards after a dare gone wrong. So now she's looking for some fast cash and a somewhere to go to let things blow over. Hopefully her skills and "fairly won" gear might just be enough to get in with some adventure types. She's a fighter battle master that throws darts from behind a shield in combat, and tries to scam people out of as much as she can get away with outside it.
Oh, I got one! I made The Mind Mangler, a Kalashtar Bear Totem Barbarian. He acts like a pro wrestler, and his signature move is ‘The Mind Blower’, where he grabs an opponent, flips them over, and slams them into the ground head-first. He puts on a show and acts super flamboyant, but deep down, he feels that he’s disappointing his family by misusing his mind powers for physical strength and personal glory.
Another one, a goblin artificer or rogue or something that gets chummy with the party only to, on one of the quests, lead them back to his clans hideout and try to ambush them. But before the ambush happens, he regrets his actions and spills the beans. Kinda like Diego in Ice Age 1. Also he is called Fitzfuse and has an affinity for putting explosives where they shouldnt be (on enemies of course)
Gearfried:
the inspiration is general grievous (star wars), chappie (chappie), zenyatta (overwatch), and bastion (overwatch).
He is a warforged fighter that was built to fight and die in some ancient war lost to time. The ancients were trying to make expendable soldiers and golems weren't intelligent enough to make a difference in the war so they over developed them to the point sentience started cropping up in the soldiers. He gained sentience mid battle and fled the battle. When he found a quiet place he shut down and slept for an unnatural amount of time when he woke up it was the present and he has only been wandering around for a few months before session 1 where he has made a few friends to give him some nice (the DM had planned the campaign to involve character specific npcs so that the player could have 2 characters active at a time to allow for more influence in combat but he controlledthe npcs out of combat)
Winged Tiefling Barbarian. Grew up in the Underdark in a Tiefling Warband, basically Slaves to a Demon Warlord. He thinks he is a demon, but he wants to be an angle.
Radiating Firedamage really helps with the flavor
Currently I have a couple as backups in case my current one dies. 1. The gold dracon blood dragon born draconic ancestry sorcerer who is on a quest to explore the outside world at large, make allies, and grow in enough power to eventually reach level 20 and return hole to take over the throne of the kingdom ruled by his father. Once he reaches level 20 he will take 1 level in wizard (or hole brew sorcerers the use of true polymorph) and cast true polymorph on himself and turn into an adult gold dragon permanently. His whole family has basically been doing this for generations and rules over a largely dragon born society tucked in some odd part of of the world and was started by an actual gold dragon (his very distant relative who started the heavy draconic ancestry in the family in the first place). The other is a bugbear fighter/barbarian with a glave who is just a big teddy bear until he rages and the wild magic subclass surges and he fucks things days up.
I made a homebrew bounty hunter warlock who serves a dark half aboleth and half dragon who control a part of the sea. Every time he kills someone he burns it’s mark in them and if he finds someone worthy, he decides to give them the opportunity to join his pact
Autognome artificer/barbarian, mounted on his steel defender, which is flavoured as Darth Maul-esque spider legs
He was built as a Gaurdian for a magical vault but his creator died before he was fully completed, he awoke centuries later when the vault he was built to guard was opened by adventurers, seeing them inside the vault he assumed that they where what he was tasked with guarding. His name was Guh-Nome
First one sounds like someone one of my old players would do. But knowing him, he probably would have gone as far as to demand i make him make rolls for exhaustion after doing the "combine powers" thing lol he loved giving himself suboptimal gimps like that in the name of flavor. He was like the "but it's what my character would do" guy, but for all the right reasons.
Honest to God, I had the exact same concept as #1, the only difference being that for my character, his twin brother drowned and possessed my character's body to keep him safe from harm. Every day would also require a roll to see who was the one in control and it was also a 10/10 cleric and sorcerer split
For the story of Sirocco, he could start referring to the people he saves as “The People of the Southern Wind”, and a really awesome theme song you can use is “People of the South Wind” by Kansas.
Similar to the twins. a changeling with DID (multiple personality disorder). I am actually getting to play this character/characters in a campaign this coming January!! basically the idea is that this level one human fighter is the original personality (Soura). Her six other personalities however act as her protectors. A monk, a druid, a warlock, a wizard, a ranger, and a barbarian. Each of them having their own "triggers" in combat. If soura gets hit for half her health or more in one shot, the barbarian comes out. If she gets hit with an arrow the ranger comes out, etc etc. This is not always surefire tho. Whenever one of these triggers happens, the first one is automatic. Each trigger after the first then calls for a d20 roll, and on a 20, the personalities swap. Health is treated like a ratio as well. meaning if the 100hp barbarian is on 50hp, and I switch to the 60 max hp wizard, then when I switch the wizard would have 30hp. Ive had this idea in the vault for years. So excited that im about to be able to actually play it lol
I have two.
One is a half orc paladin who is trying to redeem herself for her rage issues. (Campaign would need to start off at least at level 2 to justify her barbarian rage). She self harms to punish herself whenever she loses control, and only does so when struck in the head.
The second character is a high elf wizard, pretty basic I know, but he is lawful evil. Reasoning is he needs to do what he can to gain power to hunt down his former master who attempted to sacrifice him to a devil for more power. So all he cares about is gaining power and making allies for his eventual show down with his master/foster father.
I have this concept were you are a Tabaxi monk were you could gain infinite speed by time traveling just before you spent your ki points to step of the wind so now that character is just chilling in the campaign I’m doing right now ya know as gods do
Sweet, a Brian one!
My favorite concept is pf2e investigator who is a food inspector. I call him Gourmand Ramsay
A warforged wizard necromancer who was originally a human who transfered his soul into this mechanical body in an attempt to achieve immortality without having to go full lich. Owned a little shop that he used as a makeshift lab in the basement, he was dying from disease and grew desperate but didn't want to get exposed until eventually figured what the hell and went for it. It worked but the spell kind of backfired and blew up the shop, burning his old body to a crisp. He used the explosion to effectively fake his death then went on the run and changed his name so he wouldn't be arrested and or executed for his crimes.
I have an idea for a character: A goblin named Borro Bonecage, whose mom was accused for a crime caused by the nobility due to her lycanthropy. Raised in the crime syndicates, he learned to manage his beastial powers (Beast Barbarian) through the use of Giant runes (Rune Knight Fighter). He now uses his position to disrupt the nobles fiendish undertakings, as well as making sure his mother could have anything she could ever want.
I made a character to give an arc to the campaign for the DM:
Yosrik, descendant of generation of chieftains, was only 10, a few years short of adulthood, where he lived practicing the axe to become the greatest Barbarian Chieftain the little tribe of the Black-Skull Orcs would ever have. But one night, unwelcomed visits arrived unexpectedly and started pillaging the village and killing it’s villagers. Yosrik could not see, he was still young and could only see silhouettes in the pitch dark night. For fear of his safety, the current chieftain, his father, entrusted Yosrik with a dark gem with a skull engraved to it, a symbol and proof of the Chieftain’s right to rule among other half-orc exiled from both their orcs and human counterparts.
Whilst in hiding, bodies of injured villagers were brought to try and be healed, Yosrik, while in the assistance of his mother, tried to heal the villagers as much as possible. He did not have the strength to help fight alongside his father and other villagers, so he did what he could. Hours passed and the shouts and screams were closer and closer. There were less and less injured villagers being brought, it was imminent, their deaths were at the other side of the door. Yosrik’s mother knew this, her son needed to live, without even thinking of her own safety, she hauled her son to the back of the building they were at and took him and all the children with her. All the adults knew what needed to be done. Yosrik was to lead all the children out of the village and into the mountains.
The front doors break open, the last of the children pass through the back door, before leaving, Yosrik himself looks back to his mother and sees how one of those silhouettes slay down his mother while she sacrifices herself to give time for him to escape. One after another, the villagers die, while Yosrik having already on his way to the mountains with the children of his village.
The screams become farther and farther away, the more time passes, the more the screams become silent. The pitch black night was painted red from the fire, the trail to the forest was light up by the blaring fire, the cries for the lost ones and their sacrifices had been silent but strong within each of the children, but mostly, the weary shoulders of Yosrik with the responsibility of needing to become stronger and build up the village with all the survivors.
He swore, he will exact revenge, he will annihilate everyone, whatever or whomever those silhouettes were.
Upon reaching the mountains, the children were found by a group of monks, they took them in, gave them refuge, but Yosrik was not satisfied, none of them were. With revenge in their heart, they each decided to train and become strong so that they rebuild it, in honor of their legacy, their parents, their ancestors.
When Yosrik became of age, he departed and traveled with an elder Cleric, he seemed attracted to that art, his mother was a healer, his father was a barbarian, if his parents apart were no match, being one with both knowledge and strength, both wisdom and grit, was necessary to become a better chieftain.
He trained under the teaching of the elder Cleric but he saw that his ideals were different, he saw his path more attuned with revenge and war, so he departed and kept training as a Barbarian to become the head of his new village, be the strength and the north as his father, but with the wisdom and knowledge as his mother.
Half-orc lvl3 Barbarian, lvl1 Cleric. Devoted to his legacy and lineage he became an Ancestral Guardian Barbarian with devotion to War as a Cleric. All skills of the Cleric were based on combat except Healing Word and Cure Wounds as we had no healer, but alas, Yosrik did not shine as the campaign was halted by the pandemic.
I have a character perk idea. Basically it doubles(or triples I dunno how dnd works) exp gained from killing, but completely REMOVES all other ways of obtaining it.
But I do have a character idea, basically it's a character whose so berserk and insane that it will literally have to be held on a chain by another member of the party. But when it's off the chain... welp, do you wanna see 12 goblins slaughtered in increasingly disturbing ways?
Eladrin Elf Oath of Vengeance. Tranan Ucena, As a child Tranan was raised in the deep parts of the fey wilds exploring all of the forests and wildlife around him and his home, changing seasons every time he got emotional. As he grew around the age of 15, Tranan was attacked by a group of Monsters and Beasts. Causing permanent damage to his magical core. So every time he switches seasons he forgets what he saw in the past season. Basically giving all of the seasons their own personality and memories. Switching seasons not at will but due to solely emotions now. Summer now vows to regain the body and take control over the other seasons. Winter has figured out that someone is causing damage to the people around him but doesn’t know it is him. Fall is oblivious to the fact that there are other seasons and sees him blacking out as a disease. Winter is aware of all of the other seasons but is unable to contact them.
Geordie, the Wandering Book.
A Juvenile Mimic Sidekick who uses the Healer Class (Druid). Hires a skilled commoner to tote themselves around while they are disguised as a book.
A bunch of cats infected by elder gods (think of a mix between cranium rat and a cat) have adopted some random old woman they liked and decided to keep her as a decoy to prevent suspicion (and also a an incubator, where new bodies were formed).
From a playing perspective, its a warlock (Great Old One).
Stats are that of a cat, but Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma were rolled for.
At one time, I could have controlled a max of charisma mod number of cats.
When one was killed (normal cat hitpoints), another one was formed, which took a toll on that old woman (she could do it only few times (for every hitdice).
Original DM was cool with it, but we were forced to switch to someone else (car accident) and new DM made me reverse it (play as clasic crazy cat lady)...
Irvin Pasafaarschnit. Middle-aged mountain dwarf monk and crechemaster, basically glorified babysitter for his home City. "Glorified" I use as a stretch, as he's completely looked down upon by his clan. He's no artisan, no good miner, not even particularly good with weapons, but in his many years serving in the "useless" roll of crechemaster, Irvin has developed a strong passion for safeguarding and teaching children. His studies as a monk are an extension of this role, as he finds his ki at its height when using it to protect the most innocent. Haven't decided what subclass he would be yet, or exactly how it would work to have him in a campaign, but I imagine his flaw would be an obtuse inability to ignore the plight of children, even if it's as mundane as a scraped knee or dropped penny.
Hezekiah Fortissimus Deus a changling paladin who found his body (what he looks like) at a religious temple after studing under them he decided to spread the word of their diety. Just a big beefy teddy bear. Love these characters
