Yes and I love the symbolism with whole part with everyone and the media losing interest. As if to say maybe Ricky was an accident that involved the father allowing something too early in his son's life. Hence why the dad feels guilt after pushing the mother to let their sun fly outside. Media was interested in sad story and then moved on to the next story, just like how the group left when Ricky flew into the woods.

They took "my child is an angel" to a whole another level.
Some people seem to be missing the point of the plot: It is about the hard nature of parenting. We often forget that parents are persons who are also growing up as the raise their children. They have flaws, they are ignorant, they might lack maturity. All this is shown throughout the film. The mother is a lonely woman struggling with her own personal issues at the same time as she is supposed to be a mother. She manages to fill her void for love in the arms of a stranger, leaving her daughter aside (as when she is late to pick up the girl for hooking up with a stranger). Then her energies are all invested in her attempt to have a new husband and a new baby. She, however, is not a bad person, nor a bad mother. She is a woman in a difficult situation. We still get to see that she is going to defend her children if she thinks someone is harming them (when she considers the only explanation for the baby's bruises is the father hurting him). They break up. She keeps going foward. Tables turn and now she considers that it is the baby she must leave to be adopted (opening scene). Ultimately, both of her children stay with her. Then it is introduced in the story the peculiarity of the baby having wings. You can easily compare this as raising a child with special needs or a child who doesn't want to grow up to be what parents might expect, either applies, for me the latter is more fitting as she eventually has to learn to let go. Accepting things as they are, is the first step she takes towards becoming a better person and a better mother. She's finally happy with her family and in peace with herself. But it is important to aknowledge that she wasn't bad at all to begin with.

This movie perfectly visualized from parent's perspective. It is not an easy task to raise someone like ricky through all those times just to finally let go of him, knowing that he only belongs in air. Love how this movie adapted to nature.

Who remembers the movie recap where an old husband and wife discover a flying baby in the woods , which they described as half baby half bird? They raised it hidden from the neighbours for sometime before it left their home to the unknown.

This really feels like an unfinished movie with an awful parent.
i agree. I was thinking like they kinda dropped the plot point of Ricky cheating on Katie, and the little girl seeing it. It felt like he got off scot free for doing something bad
I think it might actually be a metaphor for having a kid with health issues that might not live a full life. Instead of a kid with wings imagine the baby to be normal but with a lot of health complications, then the story makes a lot more sense.
The daughter is sad because her mom is always focused on her brothers health, because he has health problems she spends more time with her son than the daughter. The mom is paranoid of anyone harming her child because he's already so fragile so she accuses the dad of being careless with him (this would be a realistic fight when one parent is overprotective of their sick kid).
She doesn't want to hand her son over to doctors to live longer with a painful procedure because it won't help his quality of life. Still she wants her son to live but the father thinks it's time, when he's on the rope flying up in the film I think it's a metaphor for being on life support, just like in the film when she's letting him go, she literally "letting him go," realizing that he shouldn't have to live in pain anymore she lets him die. Afterwords the mom regrets her decision, she wants to commit suicide. Her sons life was too short and he was sick all the time, he couldn't be peaceful or grow old like a kid should. She's depressed after his death but then she realizes he's no longer sick and can be happy in heaven, she finally finds peace and goes back to her remaining family. If taken figuratively, the baby flying up healthy at the end of the film is symbolizing that he's now like an angel flying towards the clouds, no longer sick and finally happy.
That's why the movie seems weird and unfinished when taken literally. It's meant to be taken more figuratively. Pretty much any scene makes more sense when you think of the film as an allegory for finding out your baby has undiagnosed medical problems and won't live a full life.

Or maybe the baby wings thing is actually in the mothers mind and the child is actually, likely has a severe form of autism the wings symboling that he’s special or different.
Cause there’s no reason to be thinking that without clear evidence. With my theory there’s at least some evidence as there are parents who can’t take care of kids born with special needs.

Fantasy and supernatural aside, in real life, laws of physics would not allow this kid to fly because the amount of lift required would not be possible with such small wings. Birds can fly with their wings because their bones are much less dense. This is why when you pick up a bird, it is as light as well, a feather. This is also why we have flightless birds like chickens and ostriches. Their bones and organs make them too heavy to fly.
