Endured the first loss of his career in a tough fight with Canelo, then came back strong with a devastating knock out of Anthony Dirrell, before taking on David Benavidez and losing a 12 round decision, in which he survive some brutal punishment in the second half of the fight. The weight was not an issue. It was confirmed that both Ryan and Haney both weighed the same on the night of the fight. Fighters miss weight. The weight absolutely plays a role. If you’re talking about two guys at their natural weight having a three pound difference that’s one thing. It’s totally different when one fighter is grinding to get those last three pounds off while the other fighter is chilling in the back not even giving the other team a heads up that he’s not even close to weight. On top of that he gets to bet on himself to win so forfeiting a percentage of his purse is nothing.
