It is interesting to me how these first few episodes, when people exit a stargate, they often come flying out, not just strolling. Over time, we don’t see the effects of traveling the path from here to there.
My understanding (I think its later explained) that they either get better used to the travel or as they learn more and better adjusted Earthtech to Gatetech it balanced out the journey. The icy stuff stopped too. This could of course all be fan-non and not cannon I've been hanging around the Gate-verse too long.
In my opinion, this is the first really good episode. "Children of the Gods" was kind of a 92-minute movie to kick off the whole series, so that was quite amazing too. On another note, maybe they should have had Teal'c say "indeed" when Catherine says, "you speak?" And on another note, I wonder what foods Earnest ate.
1) He def should have said "Indeed" .. that would have been priceless! 2) I don't think I want to know what Ernest was eating .. I'm gonna go with seafood and seaweed since he was by the ocean. This was def a memorable episode that just opened up the entire lore and universe for the show.
Jack is a lot more smart then he pretends to be. Their is not actually a lot of energy in a lightning strike because it is so short. This is what people who know a bit more about things think - I think normally either stargate can provide the nessary energy but the earth gate does not have the DHD to do so.
The Stargate ring itself stores energy and has basic dialling ability, the DHD acts as a high end computer with special protocol stacks. It's similar to the way an Ethernet card physically establishes a connection while the Operating System has special protocols and can control the dialling. If you don't have the DHD you don't have advanced functionality but you can still store power and dial.
Have you seen the web series that came out most recently? It was combines later into a movie. But it has the Nazis and Catherine /Earnest going through the gate in the 30s. Something like that.
I have seen it, and I have a disc copy in my collection but I don't remember a ton about it. I do hope to watch it for the channel. :) Are you interested?
@@angeltalion - Eventually? There’s 9.5 seasons of SG-1, 5 seasons of Atlantis, and two seasons of SGU to watch, first. And by the time all that’s done, there may (fingers crossed) be actual shows to add to the queue. Though, there’s an argument to be made to watch it now, since you just did Tantalus.

@@angeltalion - They were launched out of the gate in SGU, based on how far away they were traveling. Just in the pilot episode, though.
Such a great episode. Keene Curtis did so well as Ernest, I buy he was lost for so long. Love the team dynamic on display here.
Agreed, the moment he saw other people you just saw such a play of emotions so many of them it was incredibly believable.

Exactly! There is no way for the Earth gate to connect .. there wasn't a stargate "WIFI".
