- Come along for a quick tour of our 167 acre gestation & farrowing farm. We purchased this in the spring of 2020, right when things were getting crazy. Since then we have been hard at work developing this raw piece of mountain land into a sow paradise for our ladies.
Property line fencing was done by snaking hog panels along the line through the trees. Most were carried in by hand.
Water comes from a gravity pressured pond we built 2/3 the way up the property and supplies 118 PSI at the bottom!
Outstanding! Got a couple new ideas, as always.
Hey just picked your channel up from justin Rhodes I'm not a veteran but I see what's happening in this world been watching it for 7 years seeing the many things but getting as far out of the system as possible I'm doing that exact thing scaling and having variety of animals learning a plethora of information thanks to the good farmers of UA-cam its truly the only hope people have to not be poisoned from within , until JESUS calls me I will continue to work as long as the sun comes up and down,,god bless you brother

Hey Jordan, nice setup, them pigs will do an amazing job cleaning that woods up.i have 15 acres I'm using pigs to clear. It's mostly hawthorn and multiflora rose that's 10 feet tall. I'm letting them level it. Can't wait to see how your works , keep us posted.
I tried using pigs for a similar task and now use goats lol

Hey buddy I came across your channel I think your awesome. I want to start my own farm. Cows, pigs etc and your explanations are very helpful. Thanks buddy
Appreciate the more information in the longer videos. I'm curious the total cost of the perimeter fence. Thanks for this video and great work!
That's awesome job with the water. Amazing how much pressure you have with only gravity fed. Love the panel fence idea as well
New to your channel, great information on several of your videos. Very nice setup you got.
Thank you Jordan
Just starting out with livestock. Been around farmers most of my adult life. Great job your doing it.

Wow, you truly are a great blessing 🕊 for All wanting to learn what is possible. Thank you for sharing 🐷
Awesome man. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Probably pretty pure water being higher up. The color of the water is amazing. Wonder what minerals cause that?
Good property 👍
Great name
You definitely have content for a book and how to buy a hog Farm. What a brilliant use of that piece of Woodland. in the process of buying a replacement Farm and moving in June. Farm Services Agency has some great purchase programs. If you have a sawmill that makes pallets close by. You would be able to move the marginal Timber for pallet stock. it's at least $400 per thousand board feet delivered 2 the sawmill. Peter Vindicator brand
Looking great my friend. Can't wait to get back down there in September.
What s happening in September? 2022?
Will you discuss sales, best ways to market, labeling on product, can a small operation profit concerning feed prices. Thank you.
Thats Awesome, really like that gravity system. What Brand of water line is that and what are the specs on it? Thankyou.
Not sure the brand but it is 200PSI 1" well pipe.
Man that’s awesome.
I’m in Tx and was looking for land but it’s so high now for so little and much harder to get approved for land only. One day I’ll get it
Yeah, we got lucky that we contracted before the real estate boom hit.
My Guru My Sensei
Looking for that purchase video!
Very cool. Love the set up. Will you be trenching in the water line due to freezing?
No, we crack the end open and let it continually flow. This past early winter we had a minor drought that dried the pond up for about 2 months. We pumped water out of the larger stream into the waterline to get water around to the pigs.
Thanks for the tour. Hopefully you purchased all the water line and the hog panels before the plandemic doubled the price.
We did and yes, it would cost 50% more now at least.
hog panels for $2/ft... I need some
👍👍
Hey I enjoyed your video. It was very informative. One question I have is. How are you powering your electric fence? You had mentioned in the title no power or water. Thanks!!
Solar powered units.
Great video, I have a question at 3:45, the video shows a stream. Is this stream on your property? If it is then you have a potiential power source. An in-stream power would provide you with power year-round.
Yes it is.. it does dry up in the summer but runs like this 7 months out of a year
@@FarmBuilder That sun is shining pretty bright during those summer months I bet 🙂... solar?
Many possibilities down the road!
@@FarmBuilder so you could have an additional source of electricity
Jordan, how do you filter the water so it does not plug up the valve system you're using in your water tank? And how often would you have to service that filter you have at the end of the hose?
The water is very clear so no filters necessary. The end of the line in the pond has a large strainer on it, not a small filter.
A hundred sow holy crap that's like 500lbs of feed a day right ??
That's just here.. HA. Our entire operation uses about 2,000lbs a day.
What type of water line did you use? HDPE? 3/4 or 1''? I haven't seen a lot of on the surface water pipe thats blue. Thank you for all you do and are ale to offer.
This system is 1" HDPE. First time I've seen it blue too but early covid messed up all kinds of supply chains.
@@FarmBuilder Thank you, Have you noticed any algae growth with it being exposed to sunlight? We are in Rappahannock county and the best price I could find on pipe was in Harrisonburg. Can you recommend any suppliers?
No algae issues as it gets covered with leaves pretty quickly. We use Premier Pump in Richmond.
How many pounds of grain do you allocate for each sow?
5 when gestating, 15 when lactating.
@@FarmBuilder When I got of of college I went to work on a confinement hog operation in Texas. I had to farrow out 18 sows per week. I did not like the elevated hog crates at all. They create stress. Your sows look to be in very good condition.
I understand the low cost approach but slinging feed is taking it physically out of you. 5lb/sow 100 sows 500 lbs/feeding. Do you have a long term idea for metered feeder for sows on pasture?
