Motor have high starting current. Because of that we should use starter. And starting curent will be 6 times greater than full load curnt. Then i dont knw how you are connecting 2.5 cable for 10hp.

We need to select the contactor with 50% extra but why your calculating 13.837*1.5 ????

if we multiply something with 1, we get its 100% or original value. eg. 20 * 1 = 20, if we multiply something with .5 we get only 50% value eg. 20 x 0.5 = 10, Hence, if we multiply something with 1.5 we get its (original value + 50% of original value) 20 x 1.5 = 30 as you can see here 50% of 20 i.e. 10 is added to its original value (20 + 10 = 30).
i dont know how i explained.. still i tried
