Prestwood wrote that song after his wife was in a car accident and he thought what if he had lost her, so he wrote this heartbreaking but beautiful song.
"Simple Gifts" - with the great Cellist Yo-Yo Ma/Alison Krauss, "Baby, Now That I've Found You" "When You Say Nothing At All", "Stay" are some of my favorites. She has an angelic voice.
This was about a million years old. Alison now has a whole truck load of Grammy awards. "When You say nothing at all" and "Down to the river to pray" along with "Whiskey lullaby" are a few personal favorites of mine that she did.
For myself, she's been the best voice in country music, for several decades ❤ Alison is also a great fiddle player & funny lady‼️ ☆ Jerry Douglas is a monster dobro player ☝
Thanks for your honest opinion! I'll need to add you to my list of channels. Krauss has a pure, clean, strong voice. Her version of this song is my favorite. But I totally understand your reaction. And I would encourage you to check out more of her songs. Please continue to voice your opinions, with the civility that you have displayed here. Peace!
Loretta Lynn Conway twitty both together there's a song called the don't cry don't cry Joni don't cry Joni yes that's the song it's called my twitty Loretta Lynn don't try If you played at when are you going to cry they know to stop
Oh, you hit on one of the purest singers today. She generally does Blue Grass and plays the fiddle. Check out her duet with Brad Paisley, Whiskey Lullabye. She has been singing with Robert Plant of Led Zepplin.
Maybe not the best song to start with for Alison Kraus. She is the 4th highest Grammy winning artists in history (2nd female) with 27, I believe. Her videos "Lucky One", "let me Touch You for a While", "Steel Rails", will all get your attention. She also did a great album (Grammy winning) with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin that is truly amazing.
Angela, you are just adorable! So, here are a few Alison Krause songs I think you might enjoy: lucky one, let me touch you for a while, forget about it, baby, now that I found you… These are some of her best, I think.
She is a very good singer, I love a lot of her songs especially whisky lullaby, and I have watched a lot of your reaction videos I love your appreciation of other types of music. If you like accopela groups you should listen to Home Free they are one of the best and do a lot of cover songs. One of their best is How Great Thou Art you won't regret it.
Hi Ms. D., Here is a couple of songs that I like by Ms. Alison, "The Lucky One" & "When You Say Nothing At All".. Now she did a duet with Mr. Brad Paisley "Whiskey Lullaby", if U review that one, get your crying towel ready.. ♠W.G.
She has a voice like an angel listen to her song “simple love” it will melt you. She also did an Album with Robert Plant The lead singer of Led Zeppelin check out the song “gone, gone, gone”
I love almost everything she does but I feel about this song the way you do. I guess because I wouldn't let any woman make me feel that way for too long. As the saying goes, there are too many fish in the sea. Her favorite of mine is "When You Say Nothing At All."
Loretta Lynn Loretta Lynn and Conway 20 together the song is called don't cry don't cry Johnny go ahead and try not to cry you won't be successful alright
Here is a great Ladies Night suggestion...PLEASE LISTEN to Morgan James with Postmodern Jukebox covering Steven Tyler's "Dream On". She and PMJ absolutely slay the song - she was trained in opera at Juilliard and then went on to musical theater and now sings R&B and covers many songs to great effect. Then react to The Warning, a power trio formed by three sisters who are taking the You Tube and concert trail by storm! Listen to their songs "Choke" and "Evolve". This would be a Fantastic Female Friday!!! These are both very special performers.
Don't feel bad, the song just lad there. Looks like a bluegrass group - but that wasn't bluegrass. The sound you were talking about was a Hawiian guitar. Also known as a steel guitar because you run a piece steel across the neck (or the back of a knife, or a bottleneck, ring etc.) The effect is technically known as a glissando. The bluegrassers are particularly fond of Dobros guitars.
I like the song, but probably not your cup of tea, since it's a bit slow. Maybe check out some of her other songs: When You Say Nothing at All, Whiskey Lullaby (another ultra-sad song), Baby Mine, and The Lucky One. She also does quite a bit of bluegrass, if you ever decide to explore that genre.
Listen to Alison sing a song called "Jacob's Dream" and make sure you have a box of Kleenex nearby. I agree with you, this is a great singer performing a not so great song.
"Jacob's Dream" is arguably one of the most powerful songs anyone has ever sung. It will bring almost anyone to tears, especially if you're a parent with young kids. Alison was reluctant to sing "Jacob's Dream" because she felt it was too sad. I think we need to introduce Angela to a more upbeat song first... "When You Say Nothing At All" or something similar... but you're right, eventually everyone needs to listed to Alison's incredible performance of "Jacob's Dream", for the sheer emotional ride. That's what music's all about, right?
At the beginning she mentions this was a Shenandoah song. I like their version better. Their version has a quicker pace making the depressing subject matter a little more palatable. You might take a listen to their version and see how if affects your perception of the song. Allison's version is so slow, to me, it just makes the subject matter even more depressing.
I like Michael Johnson's version way better than others (less 'twang')... even the writer of the song, Hugh Prestwood had in mind for Michael to put this on an album, but he was between record deals and not in a position to record the song, so someone from the Shenandoah group asked if they could do the song back in '90.
My response is that I don’t know if I like this song or if I don’t like this song, I’ve only heard it one time. Just now. For the first time. You know, her voice is beautiful but it made me feel impatient. So that’s why I am wondering if maybe some songs just need to be heard. That’s it. That’s all. Just listen. That’s the criteria. They just need to be heard. The singer’s voice is telling me that. So maybe some songs are not asking us to like them or dislike them. They’re indifferent to our judgement. What if that criteria doesn’t matter here. You know what I think? Everything is so disposable in our society. We’re so impatient. So I’m going to listen to this song again. And not toss it on the heap so quickly. That’s just me…
My favorite songs by this angelic singer are her covers of When You Say Nothing At All and Ghost in this House.
ONE OF THE BEST VOCAL AND WELL WRITTEN COUNTRY SONGS, EVER!!!
That song was phenomenal

Pure, pure voice. Queen of Bluegrass can sing anything. I will listen to anything Alison sings. thanks for the reaction.

Love Allison Kraus. The great Jerry Douglas on slide dobro. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Alison is just superb....Her voice is hauntingly beautiful...

Alison Krauss has won like the second most grammy's all time. She is an excellent fiddle player and singer
Actually she is number one with 27 according to the Grammys website

Very pretty song, beautiful voice, and good honest reaction by you. Some songs you like immediately, others must grow on you.
That instrument you noticed is called a Dobro. It's played by Jerry Douglas, the greatest Dobro player alive, and that's no exaggeration.
Some info….may surprise you. Allison has won more Grammy than any other female performer. True
Apart from Beyonce ?
@@dibbysstopmotionchannel9472 As of this year, Beyonce has 28.
But, Beyonce did the Faustian Pact...
My favourite is “Let Me Touch You For A While” I love it. Alison’s voice is beautiful whatever she sings.
@@dibbysstopmotionchannel9472Bouncy 🤣🤣🤣🤣
she has been doing some recording with robert plant from led zepland lately that is very good
Never heard this one! She has a powerful voice! Pretty sentimental and down to earth song, and a little enigmatic!
Oh, you hit on one of the purest singers today. She generally does Blue Grass and plays the fiddle. Check out her duet with Brad Paisley, Whiskey Lullabye. She has been singing with Robert Plant of Led Zepplin.
You should check out her collaborations with Robert Plant. They have two albums out I believe.
The voice of a Angel.

The sound you like so well is the sound of a dobro
I agree but yes she has a lot of good songs 🎵
I saw her in Indy about 15 years ago. Sublime.
Twenty-Seven Grammys. Try "Let me touch you for a while" or my favorite, "When you say nothing at all".
She has won more awards than most women in music ... check out her stats

She can play several instruments. Well. Very well.
It is a very depressing song, you can't deny that. But she does have a beautiful voice.

The song is about her husband is in love with another woman.

Give "Lucky One" a try. Great song.
Try Alison's "I've Got That Old Feeling" from 1990.
I'm kind of with you on this. It's a slow mover and a downer. But she has plenty others, and 23 grammy's too.
Do oh,Atlanta by her live.🤗❤️😎
If you like her voice you should give a listen to her cover of Keith Whitleys hit When you say nothing at all. 😊
You need to check out and react to whiskey lullaby with her and Brad paisley

Bonnie Raitt -- Angel from Montgomery. Any version you want.

I like Allison but this song is done better by the County music band Shenandoah and song by Marty Raybon.
This is one of my favorites by her. "When you say nothing at all". ua-cam.com/video/1SCOimBo5tg/v-deo.html
Try I’ve got that ole feeling
Agree with you, that this song is not the best of Alison Krauss, with many of her better tunes suggested by your many other commenters here!
some of these songs would benefit from having the lyrics where you could or the audience could follow along
When you say nothing at all, should be your next taste of her.
Yes this is not one of my favorite still beautiful voice you should try the lucky ones and I live in prayer those are both way good
A living prayer
The shenandoah version is much better
To me her sweet vioce don't go with this song. I prefer Shenandoah for this Song, and Allison for others.
Stop listening, your not worthy 👎👎👎👎
Wrong song, listen to others.
