Fieldfare, the winter thrush

- Last winter in Shropshire we had large mixed flocks, over 400, of fieldfare, redwing and starlings out in the fields and hedgerows. With the frost and snow of mid winter the fieldfares were easily tempted into the garden with a regular supply of apples giving me a really good chance to view these rather splendid winter thrushes at close range.
During this recent bad spell of snowy weather, we have had so many Fieldfare come into our garden, a bird rarely seen here and not seen since the bad winter of 2010/11. I didn't know what to feed them so looked up on RSPB. I went to town and bought £20 worth of apples and pears to keep them going for a few days. The poor birds are so hungry and many perish in this kind of weather. Fieldfare are very protective of their food and chase everything else away. I'm pretty sure these ones will make it now, they keep having a good feed.
We saw a dozen of these for the first time today in our garden! It's snowing - they just stopped for a rest, then flew off into the blizzard 😊
They are a lovely bird, you must have been thrilled to see them even if only for a short time.
Thank You for sharing and filming this beautiful bird.
