The approach I take is a blending of some of the methods you outlined. For Marquee characters, I spend crystals on data cards to star them up and unlock Tier 3 of their event (so I can keep pulling in more shards from that tier's rewards over the 7 days), but I go no further than that to conserve crystals. Then, I wait for them to show up in shipments and spend another 2K crystals for 25 more shards to get them to another star.
From there, I wait until they become farmable, and then I go with the double refresh method on their node to move them all the way up to 7 stars. The total crystal count is higher than just doing the double refresh farming, but it's considerably less than the higher cost methods while still getting me there faster.
An extra benefit is this method also gets the newer characters up to 5 stars by the time the next Conquest rolls around (so you can more easily do any sector or global feats that require them). And that lets you get the Conquest character sooner with 3 straight red crates.
Awesome breakdown. I learned back in the early days of SWGoH that waiting until the second or third time the event runs to be ready was much less stressful. Also, you were probably still ahead of a majority of players because you kept your resources and farms constant.
I'm not rushing Baylan because like you mention, not all of the reqs are farmable yet and it's a huge cost difference between the "red" section and "green" section on your table. Will wait to see what's their farming node and how good Baylan is. If he's worth it, I'll get him on the next go around using Shipments to make up any shortfalls from the node farmining. My crystal income is similar to yours... and like you, have the ability to stockpile over time and dump it into the next big thing if I so choose. I had a stockpile of ~70k at one point, dumped some of it into all these Special Marquees to unlock higher tiers. But currently still sitting at ~52k to use on Baylan shipments or GL Ashoka.

Refreshing is when you spend extra crystal to refresh a node to get more attempts. Accelerated is when a character starts to drop 2 shards instead of 1

i started ftp rushing for baylan, i got morgan to 7*s a few days ago, but my guild convinced me to 180 and get jabba. which is obviously going to be better for my account, but sucks to have spent like 8k crystals or how ever many it took to get morgan to just, temporarily, be wasted. and its hard to not go after the new shiny. but i already have all the gear and relic mats saved to instantly get jabba, but im pretty much completely out of signal data, so that will take a while to build up

So this question has become very very roster and desire dependent. I really need to make a whole series going in depth. SLKR is probably the better option unless you already have half of SEEs reqs done

I try to do the double refresh. The problem is trying to keep up with each character release. Can I finish Death Trooper (P) before Enoch is farmable? Nope. Can I finish one of them before the Great Mothers is farmable? Probably not. I have to pick a balance between which new thing I go for and which I leave behind.

Refreshing is when you spend extra crystal to refresh a node to get more attempts.
Accelerated is when a character starts to drop 2 shards instead of 1

SEE is cheap in terms of character costs, but so is SLKR, and SLKR carries in so many game modes. He’s a no brainer for an early GL, imo.

Marek should be one you do thru shipments since furthest away from f2p.

I found this much more challenging with this group of marquees. All 3 IRs are 20 energy nodes
