LFC fan here, I don't think they meant years and years. I think they were referring to the past two years, and Arsenal has genuinely been their closest challengers. LFC is still, will always be City's greatest rival, regardless.

When you considered the handball against arsenal and the penalty against city and the Luis Diaz goal against spurs not being given easy cost Liverpool an extra 5 points and Arsenal and City an extra two points. Basically a 7 point swing which would have had them a lot closer.

LFC will beat Leverkusen, Newcastle, Leipzig, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and ManCity and remain top of the leagues, both PL and UCL. Why?
Because Slot is a tactical genius, with these strong teams LFC can play Slotball at its best, LFC squad is equally strong as these teams and Slot already prepared the bench in such a way LFC base team is almost the entire squad.
These analysts do not see what is truly happening. Without Rodri and MBAPPÉ both Real Madrid and ManCity are not unbeatable at the moment. Arsenal lost against LFC during preseason when Arsenal was at full strength and LFC lineup consisted mainly of youngsters.
Besides, except for Newcastle and Chelsea, the other top teams also play a big match every 3-4 days for 6-8 consecutive weeks. The injury risk is comparable.
As a football fan Oct-Nov fixtures are a privilege. You would want to see the best against the best.

You forgot that they were robbed of
3 against Spurs (Refs incapable of communicating),
2 against Arsenal (Ødegaard feeling up and leading the ball in the box) and
2 against ManC (Doku kungfu kicking MacAlister in the chest).
Those three mega blunders alone would have made LFC equal on points with ManC, and then you can speak of all the hopeless draws.

Look at the month in November and December, we have 5 home games. We are not going to lose one of those home games in Uefa and PL

They are title contenders since Kloop arrived. They are continuously buying and either Kloop or the current Managers are really good. Liverpool and Arsenal are battling with City for I would say, a decade, and Liverpool took one EPL title in the process. However, I believe this season, despite their strong squad, other teams are joining the race: chelsea and Spurs. They are playing really well. City must be worried, otherwise can be out of top 4. Believe me. Anyone can win this season, even ManUtd.

Let’s not have unrealistic expectations. Top four place will be excellent for a new manager, anything else will be a huge bonus.
Top four would be a significant feather in Slot's cap, IMHO.
I just do not see it as likely that a 6 person first team midfield roster can grind through a 38 game marathon season without dropping in form. I said that at the beginning of last season, when Liverpool started the season with only 6 healthy midfielders. Sure enough they had a couple injuries in midfield, and the remaining midfielders became fatigued and had some off games, causing the team to drop points.
I am expecting much the same this season. Slot may be easier on the players' legs than Klopp, but I doubt it will be very different by the end of season. That is what it is, and that is on FSG, not Slot or the players on the team. Let's be realistic. Klopp had 8-11 midfielders on his roster when the team was playing well (and even had a large roster during some seasons that went poorly).

To say they lagged 9 points last year is ignorant. LFC lost 3 points by incompetence against Spurs (refs not able to communicate), they were robbed of 2 points against when Ødegaard was leading the with his hand in the box, and a further 2 points when Doku were allowed to kung-fu kick Macalister in the chest in the box. If you look at these facts LFC didnt lag behind, but beat Arsenal and were held from the title by ManC on goal difference.

Klopp has gone and Slot will not be able to make Liverpool compete as well, because PL history says so. In this day and age, you dont get lucky and get to have 2 great managers one after the other. So by this logic, Slot will be in charge of a steady decline. Thats just football life. Added to that, the owners are hardly lavishing the new boss with the kind of funds to help keep Liverpool at the very top either.
Yes, theyre playing fairly consistently at the moment, but Liverpool are also showing some ropey signs against some of the supposedly lower league sides. The control isnt quite there yet and a better team will cause them issues.
