I still have my Sagila, given to me by a taxi driver (Madala is what I called him) when I was about 5. Now in those days the Taxi drivers drove Valiants and Commandos and they kept their money in a leather pouch which they hung off the gear shifter on the steering rack. Tucked between the door and the seat was the Sagila, my favourite. My dad would take his coins in exchange for notes. While they did business I would play with the Sagila. As I was playing with it the one day it slipped out my hand and hit the glass door of the fridge. My dad crapped me out and Madala found it funny cos I had shattered the glass. He seemed to like naughty kids. No more Sagila for me just a "hello Madala" when I saw him in the evenings. Then one day Madala arrived at the shop and was carrying a short Sagila and gave it to me saying "Eyakho lena, yibambe kanje mfana wami" He then showed me how to hold it and where to put my thumb when I raised it and how to relax my wrists when I swung it. Those poor potato bags in the storeroom would get a hiding after that. Its been 47 odd years and nothing has changed, I still swing the Sagila around every now and then, that is, when I know no one is at home to watch me, just to let out my inner child, that young Yeoville boy.

Now imargin you are in a war with the striking stick turned into a machete, the long stick turned into a spear and a short spear for stubbing your opponet, the creator of guns removed the sweetness of war.
I'm from northen sweden, and I think this culture is so cool I have dropped quite a few comments on videos like this over the years. I want to go and try it sometime, it seems like a really fun martial art!
Nice brother, Would love for you to come down one weekend to watch and give your take on similarities and differences with martial arts from your culture@@Jon_Hing
Your culture is the same as Basotho people. I grew up doing this a lot. But if you were to face sotho people, you would will just because that thing you use to protect yourself is so big. U can never hit me while i am using that to protect myself

I think all Nguni tribes and Basotho are also doing stick fight, it's a Southern African thing. I am a Mosotho man and I can stick battle anytime any day, I cant fear any pain because it is how we thought as men to not be cowards.
