11 riffs written/co-written by Chris, 2 by Matt, 2 by Ben and 5 by Kim. It’s time that people start paying respect to Chris as a riff writing machine that he was. People unknowingly credit Kim with most of the riffs and songwriting but whole band, especially Chris deserves all the Flowers.
Soundgarden have a special place in my heart, this mix of heavy Black Sabbath-ness and weird riffs/solos. Cool that you included Been Away, I never heard anybody praise their final record but I still think it has some good tracks and still captures the unique Soundgarden weirdness.
All amazing, I would add Somewhere, Holy Water, Black Rain, Limo Wreck and Zero Chance (this last one has one of the best sounding intros I've ever heard). P.s: It is said that Bloxsy is still retuning his guitars after finishing this video.
Kim and Chris came up with so many killer riffs and used a lot of weird tunings you wouldn’t expect to hear in a rock band but made it work so well, I’m honestly surprised that 4th of July didn’t make it on here either since that’s definitely one of their best riffs imo but I also understand that you’re always gonna miss some. Great job as always, man
Thanks dude. Don't forget Matt Cameron for Room A Thousand Years Wide, think he wrote the riff for Birth Ritual too. Also 4th of July is just an awesome song too.
Let me drown, preety noose, spoonman, mailman , black hole sun , incessant mace , outshined, Jesus Christ pose, room a thousand, rusty cage, burden in my hand, feel on black days, hunted down, flower, all your lies, been away too long
Tenes que hacer una segunda parte: Black Rain, 4th of july, Gun, Slaves and buldozers, Cold bitch, Kristi, Limo wreck, New damage, Beyond the wheel, Holy water, never the machine forever, blood on the valley floor, bones of birds, blind dogs, y unas cuantas canciones más. Soundgarden tiene muy buenos riffs. Saludos desde Argentina!!!
Great video as always, even if I don't really know Soubdgarden. By the way, have you done a video on Muse riffs? I seem to remember seeing one a long time ago but I can't find it, so I'm probably mistaken. (You can take that as a request lol)
I never did one for Muse, it would be quite interesting to do as I don't really know many Muse songs. Could broaden my horizons a bit. Any particular favourites?
@@bloxsy_ I think the two most recognisable Muse riffs would be "Plug in Baby" and the bass riff off "Hysteria". Their strongest riffs IMO are off the albums The 2nd Law and Drones, but hidden gems can be found from "Sober" to "Kill or Be Killed". I can get back to you with something more substantial after I give them a listen to jog my memory; I'm currently mired in Feeder and Nothing but Thieves (as well as some guilty pleasures) lol Edit: contrast is beautiful, and "Panic Station" contrasts well with, I don't know, "Unintended". Or anything, really. "Panic Station" is so 2012, "funk-inspired", sassy stuff. I love it.
I'm not a Les Paul guy but I daydreamed either today or yesterday about how fucking COOL it would look to play Soundgarden riffs on a black Les Paul. The answer? VERY fucking cool!! Btw! Check out Kim Thayil's interview with guitar center and on the 500 Pod for some great interviews, the latter he talks about the making of Superunknown and so much more
Kim Thayil is a beast and super underrated. Really Sabbath sounding licks - and of course, RIP Chris Cornell
Massively underrated. Along with Larry Lalonde
Great player. But Chris wrote 11/17 riffs played on this video. But I love Kim’s guitar playing and that unmistakable eastern touch.

Great job on the alternative tunings
Tuning diversity😀 SG and Sonic Youth use them all😊
I read somewhere that BHS is not only in drop d but also a quarter note more
4th Of July is also really good. Probably one of the heaviest riffs I've ever listened too.
4th of July intro is heavier than a black hole

Exactly. Kim is awesome, but the overwhelming majority of Soundgarden’s iconic riffs were written by Chris. Chris was quietly a badass guitar player.
most people that listen to soundgarden dont even know anyones name except for chris lol
limo wreck, 4th of july, and room a thousand years wide have the heaviest soundgarden riffs i love
My favorite band, Soundgarden
Soundgarden have one of those sounds thats just great to play as loud as you can
Also rusty cage is up there as my favorite riffs
Outshined goes so hard
Soundgarden have a special place in my heart, this mix of heavy Black Sabbath-ness and weird riffs/solos. Cool that you included Been Away, I never heard anybody praise their final record but I still think it has some good tracks and still captures the unique Soundgarden weirdness.
Not a big Soundgarden fan personally; but I’d be stupid to not say these riffs are badass.
They were all about the riffs. Kim Thayil hugely underrated.
Also worth noting they were on Subpop before Nivana or even Mudhoney iirc.
Why not??
Took me a while with SG too, i’d say watch their Pinkpop 92, then it allllll clicked for me.
Yeah, that would be stupid of you lol
Fantastic 🙌 Batmotorfinger and Superunknown are spectacular albums
Thanks. They are indeed!
Love that you had King Animal in there that's under appreciated
I was really hoping for arguably their heaviest one ever Fourth of July, but these were great! 💯
Thanks. Yeah it’s one of my favourites, I didn’t want to put too many from Superunknown though
I loved these! Flower in particular is a super underrated song tbh
Amazing! Love this heavy riffs. The metal influence in Soundgarden songs is evident.
You're a spectacular guitar player! Congratulations!
Thank you! Yeah there is a big Black Sabbath influence there.
All amazing, I would add Somewhere, Holy Water, Black Rain, Limo Wreck and Zero Chance (this last one has one of the best sounding intros I've ever heard).
P.s: It is said that Bloxsy is still retuning his guitars after finishing this video.
Yes! Limo Wreck! The second half of Superunknown from Limo Wreck on is so good! Great to chill out to
Pretty Noose sounds so ridiculously badass.
If possible could you do more down on the upside riffs. Favorite Soundgarden album.
Yeah I need to explore that album more.
my fav album of theirs too....something so special about it, also the fact that they produced it on their own, they owned that album
Oh, Spoonman!
I often think I know a band, and then only recognize one or two of the songs.
💛💛💛
another fantastic video! these riffs are not easy....well done!
Thank you! Yes some of them can be quite tricky
man they have some great songs!
No 4th of July?
Amazing! I missed Gun, though. That riff was really cool.
where's 4th of july.......
My favorite Soundgarden song

@@bloxsy_ I didn't actually know he wrote them, that's really cool
Rusty Cage has even more sick riffs than just that main one.
Amazed that you were able to get such a grungy tone out of that tele
The bridge pickup has a lot of output
Nailed the tones !! Nice 👌
good work man
Oh hell yeah. Nice choices and well played
Thank you.
Awesome riffs
All Soundgarden riffs are Godlike!
Yeah and there are so many others too
Loud Love was such an awesome song.
Nice. Well played as always and good choices.
Beautiful. You can really hear the Sabbath influence when the lick is solo.
i miss bloxsy's singing covers
yeah man we miss your beautiful voice
i agree with theses two different ppl 👍
Fantastic altogether ❤
Good shit, man!!!
Thanks man. Really appreciate it.
Let me drown, preety noose, spoonman, mailman , black hole sun , incessant mace , outshined, Jesus Christ pose, room a thousand, rusty cage, burden in my hand, feel on black days, hunted down, flower, all your lies, been away too long
Soundgarden is very underrated in my opinion never talked about compared to AIC and Nirvana. Chris Cornell was the grunge James Brown
Hi bloxsy, good afternoon, congratulations by your video,as always, cheers and have a nice weekend for you!!!!!!!
Thanks! You too!
@@bloxsy_,you're welcome as always!!!!
Awesome!
Soundgarden rules
Tremendos riffs la csm
Amazing job bro! What guitar is that?
Thanks dude. It’s a Vintage V100
If I had spider fingers like this dude I’d still be playing the guitar.
Hipnotizado..superb..👏👏
Glad you did this video or is this a reupload from 3 years ago. Either way kudos to you.
Thanks. No it's a completely new video of Soundgarden riffs recorded again.
#soundgarden4ever!!!!!!!
Great job....these rock. But we need 4th of July and Limo Wreck to be added.
Hunted down❤❤
Head down❤❤
Rhinosaur❤❤
Incessant mace es muy wenaaa
Let me drown doesn’t get enough love
Skid Row, Pantera, Helmet, Steve Albini, more riffssss

Do you use a fuzz or distortion? Love these riffs!
I'm using a fuzz on the Boss Katana but only slightly.
Like deployed 👍
😎🎸✅️
Rusty cage always reminds me of the ps one game road rash

I’ll check that out. Thanks!
Damn, I'm a huge SG fan and I haven't learned how to play half these riffs
Dude pls share how you dialed in the tone 🙏
Should’ve played the bridge riff from Jesus Christ pose
Only "Loud Love" off Louder Than Love? 😢
Kim Thayil to me is the Tony Iommi of the 90's. Not a technical freak but just a total riff master with great feel and tone.
Do Audioslave and RATM soon plz
i missed to Blind Dogs, but discovered two new for me their songs)
😍😍😍😍
💙💙💙💙💙
4th of July wouldve been kick ass
please do one of Korn riffs
I think I need a 7 string for that, if I ever get one I’ll try.
@@bloxsy_ here to stay, thoughtless and harder are one of the best riffs by them, and they have so many albums
Shellac riffs please 🙏 in honor of Steve Albini
Just heard the news. So sad.
Is this an Epiphone LP?
It's a Vintage V100
It's ok to use your pinky, I promise. As a matter of fact, I *pinky* promise.
Chris Cornell wrong most of these lol absolute insane talent...
Needs some tabs great songs
I'm really surprised that you know songs like flower or hunted down A lot of people only know the superunknown and their latest album
Yeah I was tempted to do a whole video of early Soundgarden riffs, they have lots on the first couple of albums and Eps
feels extremely weird to hear isolated jesus christ pose riff without bass
dude you forgot Down in a Hole?
Isn't that an Alice In Chains song?
@@bloxsy_ yup. Just trolling 😄
Oh okay 😄
BLACK RAIN???
Weird. I had Black Rain in my head for no reason then I saw this comment.
hate soundgarden but love ur plaiyng lol
That’s interesting, I’ve never heard anyone say they hate them. Thank you, I appreciate it.
drums? bass? we aren't seeing the entire picture, wasted potential
