What an amazing variety of crafts you've tried during your life, I love to hear about those kind of things. Thanks for taking us along your journey down memory lane Tuula. It's been very enjoyable to watch.
Thank you so much! I definitely enjoy varying what I do. Even though I have crocheted all my life, crochet only became the thing I do most not that long ago. I still knit and crochet equally.
Love seeing the pictures of your Mother and yourself, your craft protects, etc., in addition to your very many talents! Thank you so much for sharing with us! ☺️🫶🏻🧶
Loved this video!! Enjoyed seeing all the different areas of inspiration you shared. How fun to see all the different eras in your life and the photos of yourself and your mother. ❤️
Thank you so much, happy you enjoyed it! I was trying to also find a photo of myself weaving at the design college - I know I have some but can't find them!!
what a talented lady you are . Such an interesting video, my grandmother taught me when I was 5 , I had my first blanket until I got married. My mother made me throw it !!!! but it had seen 20 years of hard work.Thank you for sharing.
You are so incredibly talented, and your videos are always fascinating. You literally have a lifetime of experience with yarn and textiles! We are lucky to have found you and your channel 🥰🧶
I really loved this. I hope you share more finds from the past. I hadn’t thought of sprang in years! Given the state of crochet content, I appreciate having someone with your background and expertise contributing.
It's a pleasure to watch your videos. I particularly liked the Sprang. It's funny/interesting to me because Sprang in English is the past tense of spring, and the scarf looks springy as in stretchy. Lots of motivation and inspiration in your video. Thank you, and yes, I'm already subscribed. 👍🇨🇦✌️
I was so touched by the purse you made at the age of ten and that you’ve kept it all these years and it is so well made and in lovely condition. I was 22 when I started crocheting and wish I had kept several items I crocheted in my early days. But I passed on baby items to others for their babies and gifted things that people admired. Your video is inspiring and I had heard of sprang but hadn’t seen it. Thank you Tuula.
Lovely! I haven't kept many of the things I made but when my mother moved from our country house and we had to clear it all, I found a number of things she had kept! Yes, sprang is an interesting technique!
I loved this video. It had new things that I did not know about. You are a very creative person. The little pouch you made when you were ten is lovely. It's something you can treasure.
Good Morning!! Lol, I'm guessing we all smiled or laughed out loud when you opened the case. And also guessing we've all done the 🤦 when finding our own treasures! I so enjoy your creativity. It gets my mind whirling. Loved the Sprang especially but the Rustic Lace Square was a close second. Thank you for sharing yourself with us all. Have a fabulous today, Steph 🙋
Oh wow fabulous show & tell! So much to be thrilled by weaving, sprang, crochet, spinning yarns. Laughed my head off at the discovered stash in the suitcase! Yes yr NI videos throw me every time its a "i know that! What thats just over the hill" sort of deja vu moments 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Your woven and loomed projects are just stunning. So pretty. I don't often find the need to "recycle" yarn, but it's a coincidence that I just started a project to reuse yarn from a wrap I made 50 years ago. (I'm in my 70's now....and made it in my 20's....time does fly). I rarely wore it and the yarn is a woven yarn and is quite beautiful and durable. I didn't wash it before starting the re-work. I'm using it as it frogs off the wrap...crocheting it into a C2C bandana style scarf. I will soak it with a little bit of fabric softener in the water and then dry flat to re-block it. Wish me luck. Your tips are always so wonderfully useful...thank you.
Tuula Maaria, you are so talented. Thank you so much so much for sharing your knowledge. I have learned so much from you. I love your tips and tricks in your videos. Love your outside videos. Hugs
Loved the colorful curtain. Beautiful pattern. That Sprang project was interesting. I might have to learn that. If I have time, just took up slow stitching craft. Want to do something creative other than crochet. Crochet is my first love.
Dear Tuula Maaria, thank you for this video. I loved seeing these crafts that you normally don’t share on your crochet channel. I especially like your way with colour. No matter if the item is crocheted, knitted or woven, there is a ‘happiness’ in your colour choices that is so fresh and pleasing. I hope you will offer more bits of your textile history as time goes on. I am very attracted to weaving.
Thank you so much! True, it has been very limited on my channel about other crafts! I could go on a lot - beading, patchwork, felting with various methods etc. Just haven't done others, possibly with the name of the channel mentioning just crochet!
I see many people making mats or blankets with kind of similar design as your 'Sprang' project, but with crochet. That was interesting. It is giving me ideas. 😊

I always learn something new from your videos. I loved this video and sharing in your memories of your mother, your many other crafts and that lovely pouch you made when only 10 years old! Your talent is inspiring
Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories! I have been enjoying your channel for quite some time, but this adds even more dimension to all your many skills. ❤️ I particularly like the Sprang. All these crafts, including crochet, are a challenge for me, as my hands and my brain often seem to be arguing with each other. But you have such a beautiful history with fiber and creating. It’s so enlightening.
Thank you Tuula, the UA-cam algorithim hasn't been good recently - I'm glad I saw this video, and will now go and find what I've missed. Really interesting thank you ❤
I need to learn how to weave. And sprang. And those ancient knitting methods that arent actually knitting. I want to know every way u can manipulate a single string to make textiles.
All these different certainly are interesting! Another great texxhnique is nålbinding (nalbinding), like making a cloth with only a big blunt needle. Slow but fun.
It's so wonderful to see all your various crafts! I always tell people that creative folks often do more than the craft or art form that they are known for. And as someone who is very interested in weaving I would love to see more of yours! Also I was thinking that perhaps the square cord that you made as a youngster might have made the way I made lanyard cords with plastic laces when I was a kid.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed seeing other crafts besides crochet! You are right, many (most?) creative people do several different crafts! That might well be how I made that cord! I remember having a book with diagrams about how to make different cord types by braiding.
Future videos? Your loom weaving is truly beautiful - something I'm interested in, even though I can't do. I'd also like to see how to do 'Sprang' and the lace crochet was beautiful (will check in case I've missed any). Thank you 😊
Thank you! I have at times considered making a video about the sprang technique, it is lovely, relaxing work after you get the hang of it! I love seeing how the pattern develops.
I think the ruffly garland or bunting behind you is the only thing I would make, other than the squares that you found that you had made a bathroom curtain similar 😁.
I’m teaching myself to knit. I’m a long time crocheter, but simply couldn’t get the casting on in knitting. Found a gal on UA-cam that taught long tail casting on and voila I could do it! I too weave. I’ve only been weaving about a year. I had always wanted to weave, but my mother said no to a loom I found at a garage sale when I was ten. I could use your advice, ma’am! I made a whole bunch of round motifs to use up yarn ends and now want to square them up. In the past, I crocheted a pattern called “Circle in a Square”, but the circles were a smaller diameter. When I saw your rustic lace, I thought you might have a better system. If you would be willing, I think it would make a great video. Thanks for considering it.
Oh right, yes, any circle can easily be made into a square. You need to divide the stitches on the last round into 4 and make a corner for each one. So many different ways of doing it but might make an interesting video, thank you for the idea!

Toni from TL yarn crafts recommends the Fabric Arts maple yarn winder. I ordered it and while it is expensive, it is smooth as butter. I love it.
