In Japan, these are closer to $2800 + tax refund. This makes it a competitive proposition for me, as you discussed these among LCD5, Elites, Susvara etc.
Check out your local Japanese totl hp amps. Mass Kobo, OJI, and luxman all make killer hp amps that we can’t get in US. Well at least without getting raked across coals on price .
@@aceofspades6667 Mass Kobo is definitely on my radar. Just need to find some forum threads about them. I didn't see any of the Japan stores carrying them for a demo and I'm not seeing many used units pop up.
I briefly auditioned these headphones at the Audio 46 booth at CanJam NYC 6 months ago. They had just received them and they were pretty much straight out of the box. I had the exact same thoughts as you when it came to weight and size. They definitely didn’t feel like $5k worth of product although I did like the design and visuals. I think that they were being powered by a Headamp GSX, if memory serves me correctly. I have to say that I was disappointed. They just weren’t giving me $5k worth of sound. Granted, I had just purchased the Caldera about a half hour earlier directly from Zach & Bevin at the show. To my ears, there was no comparison. I have since learned that the YH5000 does require some burning in. At some point I will take my butt down to Audio 46 along with Caldera and put in some demo time. Tony and the guys are pretty good about it as long as it doesn’t get too busy. Great people! 👍🏾 Btw……. Congrats on hitting 5k! 🍾 You should be over 100k IMHO!😉
@@x32i77As of right now, the Caldera is tops for me. I consider the D8000 to offer an alternate presentation that’s complimentary to the Caldera. The YH5000SE would be last on the list for me. I really need to take myself down to Audio 46 with my Caldera and do a head to head to head.
For me, when you talk about honks, all I hear is bad mastering vs good mastering. It's an indication that the headphones reproduce exactly how the sound was mastered. But I do agree that if you got the dough to buy these, you better pair them with a tube amp. Using them jacked into your laptop will be a waste of money.
Well I no longer own the TT2, I would think the Lina is better because the TT2 is all detail all the time, and this headphone does tons of detail already.
Look who I found while looking for reviews on the Yamaha YH-5000SE! I knew nothing about these headphones other than the price. Great video! The bass sounds good for me,except the bloom boom...lol but the HAWNK 🤡 sounds not so good! Tubes....oh man Tubes...I like my solid state german amps! I would love to take these for a test ride but there are a few areas that scare me from your review.that I need to test these before I would buy them. All the Singers that had issues on these headphones would be the singers I would be listening to! Of course if I get a tube amp...
I loved that you used Roger Waters “Amused to Death.” That album is sonic paradise. Great for identifying spatial cues. Well done, Michael. Love this whole video and you’ve definitely got me thinking. 😀
@@DirectorsGarageI know Roger is a strong Personality, but sonically the guy nails it on this album. Michael. I know you aren’t into Blu ray audio discs like I am, but if you maybe get a chance get the blu ray disc of this album. It is nuts. Beats the pants off the cd or 24/96k download of the album. 😎
You could be right, but I heard this honk on several amps (just less prominent on the Woo amp) on all my sources. I'm happy your experience was much better! Everyone hears differently. We all have different shaped ears and sensitivities. This was my experience and it was most evident when I started A-B'ing headphones like the Susvara and Caldera.

I own one and absolutely love it!!
Great review! Appreciate your time and particularly like the music recommendations!
What a fantastic, enthusiastic, and well explained review of a special pair of ultra-fi headphone!
Thank you! 🎧😊
SE is special edition and includes some extra accessories while the regular (yh5000) does not (not released yet)
If there's a regular edition, I would definitely get em
@@hemispherecompensation no if, they will come out with one. It's been confirmed but release date is unknown for now

So which one is better caldera or Yamaha YH5000 or Final audio D8000 pro Limited Edition ?

Excellent review, Michael!
I was wondering if you preferred it with either the Lina, or TT2. Would you say that you had a preference?

much love from Indonesia ❤

i like that small bit about EQ. I would like to get better at EQ. i want to understand it better. maybe, you can do a deep dive video on EQ.
Caldera with Holo stack is amaaaaazing
Zmf caldera vs Yamaha YH5000 vs final audio D8000 pro Limited Edition is the video to make 👌 🔥🔥🔥

What pads did you like the most?
Leather preferred over the suede for me. YMMV.
Could never afford those :) Nice review alltogether though!
Gotta disagree these are "tube hps" imo it just depends on the amp. Also there is no honk from my experience, perhaps these are just picky with gear
