It’s funny that you should put it that way. He plays guitar genuinely- and that is his role in the film. He acts the same way on stage as he did in this movie. He’s so connected to his instruments that he makes all these facial expressions and stuff, and his other mannerisms are just like when u see him in concert
The slide song on the outro has always been one of my favorite parts of that movie, when willie salutes the devil and Eugene plays a kind of laugh on the guitar. They really showcase the emotions of the instrument in this movie. Especially with feelin bad blues too. Ry Cooder is one of the best
thank you for taking me back to my 17 year old self in 1986 - when this movie came out - and sitting here in awe of an amazing performance!!! I think for most - but certainly for me - it was my first introduction to Steve Vai! You did an AMAZING job!!!
Thank you for the kind words. My first introduction to Steve Vai as well. My guitar teacher played it for our guitar class and everyone was gathered around the TV just completely awe struck. That moment has always stayed me. Thanks for the comment and take care!
I've been playing for longer than I can remember now and I know how much HARD work and practicing goes into playing this, especially how you did it, damn near note for note!! You're are an exception to great guitarists out there and I enjoyed the hell out of this video! Thanks for sharing this....GREAT!!😊😊🎉🎉
When you duplicate or cover something and post it, it should be as good or in a different kind of musical artistic style. This is not even close to Steve Via’s playing or tone, and it’s almost 40 years later.
This is probably the greatest thing I ever saw on UA-cam. Awesome brother!! Totally Awesome!! CrossRoads Is My all time favorite movie. Watched it 5 times and could watch it another 5 times.
Amazing video to see this recreated in its entirety. My favorite guitar scene of all guitar scenes, "The Head Cutting Duel." Outstanding talent and prowess of the six string gunslinger's. Bravo 👏
You are an inspiration. When I first saw this movie I didn't think anyone could play guitar that good. I'm much older now but you showed me nothing is impossible and if you practice you can be great. I have high respect for you young man and your talent. Brought tears to my eye listening to you. I wish you great success.
Take a bow brother!!! I've owned that scene as one of the best pieces of art to come out of that wickedness known as hollywood. So the fact that you took it serious and enjoyed it enough to teach yourself every part proves it was art. I have shown it to as many people as I could just to get them to broaden their horizons and tip their cap at the mastery on display by Vai. So, good on ya my friend that you have pulled off what I have never actually seen anyone else even dare to try, every part all at once. Blessings from our creator the Lord Jesus Christ for blessing you with the anointing to rock that scene and inspire others to aim high like you did. They will find out that they are more gifted and prepared to succeed than they ever dreamed! 🛐✝️😇🙏🖐️👏
I saw this movie in 1986, pre-internet, and was always amazed by this sequence. I found the MP3s in the napster days, and I'm so glad others with more musical talent than me had the drive to recreate this. It has been one the greatest chase pieces, and both guitarists were so talented. Bravo, and thank you.
That was some incredible details man! The tone was bang on and the notes were like nails stuck to the wall. Plus the little acting was light hearted. Awesome playing bro! 🔥
My mind has officially been blown my friend. I can only imagine the number of hours practice and preparation you put into the making of this video! Congrats. I watched every second of it with my mouth wide open. That movie Crossroads was one of my first and favourite movies to feature guitarists. I still have it on VHS! I genuinely never thought I’d see someone nail that whole scene from start to finish. When I was a kid starting to play I was convinced it was CGI or something!! Thank you. This video made my day and brought back heartwarming memories. 👏 👏 👏
This was absolutely amazing! Who taught you to play like that? Legba? The fact that you did Macchio’s last part where he wins with a Steve Vai guitar was a brilliant touch. Were you inspired by the movie when younger? I know I was. I was 18 when that movie came out and had been playing a mere three years. One of the best guitar duels in a movie ever. You recreated it perfectly. Even down to the looks they gave each other. That’s some dedication. You will go far young man. Can’t thank you enough. The nostalgia hit me like a freight train. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you my friend. Yes huge inspiration. My high school luckily had a guitar class and my teacher was playing the last scene of the movie for the class. He had a little TV on a huge stage and we were all gathered around this little TV with our jaws to the floor. Couldn’t believe what we were hearing. Thanks for the support 🙌🏻
Love it 🎸🔥🤘 I remember the moment Vai took of his jacket and started to smoke Ralph Macchio...but we all see now how that ended. Great playing and eye for detail. Beautiful guitars as well.
absolutely brilliant, i can hear the nuances with the differences and this what's makes this so real. Remember this was done in a studio with a lot more takes than you. You pulled it off mate well done
Молодец''' Главное, благодаря этому парню и его исполнению мы смогли услышать ту часть игры Стива, которую он играл в момент прихода в зал и до сих пор мы слышали только концовку. Спасибо огромное!!! Job very well done cover this entire duel! Your tone on both guitarists is really ear pleasing - especially like the bluesy bits. Great use of pinch harmonics, effects, slide, and tremolo... so much to cover!👍👍
Bravo man my hat's off to you you got to be one of the best guitar players on the planet to do that I love the Crossroads movie in the morning sounds like, "victory""
Wow! Very nicely played. I never knew about “Fried Chicken”. It’s too bad that scene didn’t make it to the final draft of the film but I think it actually makes sense in terms of the script and the sequence of scenes. Not sure if this is accurate but that classical part that ended the duel was supposedly a solo violin piece composed by Nicolo Paganini, whom had also been rumored to have sold his soul to the Devil for fame and fortune. The thing I found hilarious was that the character Eugene was from Long Island, NY. Vai was actually from Long Island
Holy crap! I knew R Macchio was from somewhere near NYC but not Long Island like his character. Isn’t Wikipedia magical? Oddly enough, Eugene was a teenage music student but in reality, Vai and Macchio are very close in age. Very cool gator photo there, bud
Ry Cooder? Vai Cooder!!!! Congratulation friend. You're great musician. Your outfit, your guitars. Stratocaster or Telecaster. And Ibanez Pyramid....cool!!!!! I'm your fan.
Holy shit. I have owned the Steve Vai "Elusive Light and Sound" album and you hit those notes. The first time I ever saw this scene in "Crossroads", I did not believe that it was possible to play it on guitar.

Alli can say is EPIC!! truly epic !! , I remember when this when it came out, I was 10 years old and knew then that I needed a guitar for Christmas that year !!
When Randy wanted his offset V built, Grover was afraid that building something different than the standard Strat style Charvel could damage the brand, so Randy suggested that he put Jackson on the headstock. The very first Jackson was Randy Rhoads' white offset V. It's discussed in Original Charvel Gang
Super impressed about the amount of work and talent it took to create all the parts ! Amazing and you especially got that elusive tone on the red guitar for vais Rock parts . Never expected someone to do every part...! Great work sir 🙂
SHEESH!! AGREED, The fact that you played all that, from that beyond amazing duel from one of my favorite movies of all time is something special man! Amazing job! Long live Crossroads baby!
thank you for this performance. This duel is one of the most influential piece of music of the early 2000s. I remember trying to figure out Eugene's trick bag straight from a Limewire video.
That was AMAZING!!!! I was 14 when the movie came out. I would sit in front of the TV and watch that part over and over and over again and try playing along to it with my platinum BC Rich Warlock and my Crate Amp. LMFAO 🤣 🤣.... You're welcome man and keep the rock alive!!! Oh btw ,,how would you suggest I could get the awesome tone of that Jackson? I have a rat pro co and a Boss Katana Mkii amp.. Thanks 🙏
The fact that you played Eugene’s Trick Bag on a replica “Green Meanie” means that you know what Steve played it on. Brilliant.

Steve should see this. Vai did a great job with the acting, nothing like him in real life.
Shoulda been Yngwie woulda been more accurate lol
😂
Steve did quite bad job acting that he can not play the final lick :D
Arlen Roth should see this as well, he played Ralph Macchio's part behind the scenes.

Wonderful re-creation of a truly iconic movie scene. Your playing is incredible. Even had the jacket removal and guitar drop!
The drop was painful
