How To Install A Thermometer on a Grill I WSM Thermometer Upgrade

- Today I will be showing how to install a thermometer on a grill, specifically the Weber Smokey Mountain, The thermometer we will be installing today is the Tel Tru Thermometer.
The model we are installing is the Tel-Tru Bq300 with a 3 inch black dial with zones, 2.5 inch stem.
Tools Needed will be a Step Bit
Masking Tape
Good Drill
High Heat Paint
Foam Brush or cloth.

0:31 Remove the old thermometer
0:55 Place a small strip of masking tape over the area
1:35 Drill hole according to diameter needed per instructions
2:13 Make sure it fits properly
2:35 inspect hole
3:23 Paint edges with High heat paint
3:45 Install Temp according to installation instructions
4:23 Two day later update
Step One: remove the old thermometer
Step Two: place a small strip of masking tape over the area
Step Three: Drill hole according to diameter needed per instructions
Step Four: Paint edges with a high heat paint
Step Five: Let dry for Ten min
Step Six: Install Temp according to installation instructions

They primary sell the Tel-Tru units for larger pits that already have a threaded insert welded to the smoker. The locknut provided allows you tighten it in the upright position after you've screwed it into the welded insert. Retrofitting like you did requires the additional hardware.

I just bought 2 of those suckers for my offset. Thirteen bucks each for those nuts is ridiculous when the stupid thermometer should come with it in the first place.
I agree they should have came with the thermometer or at least cost much less.
That accessory kit is ripoff. You can probably achieve the same results with a five cent washer and the original locking ring. Except that tightening that kind of ring tight enough will scratch through the porcelain inside. Very disappointing they don’t include better hardware with such a quality thermometer!
