I agree that the difficulty scaling is pretty brilliant. Going from 3 rings to 2 doesn't make the game trivial: it still can be pretty hard. And "Word" tends to be the easiest, so there's also a difference in the 2 ring set ups between, say, Word-Attribute and Attribute-Context. In addition, the clues are ranked from Easy to Medium to Hard, so with 2 rings you could play with 2 Easy clues or 2 Hard Clues or maybe even 1 Hard and 1 Medium. So there's lots of levels to find your fun set up. One downside of the game is that there isn't a huge deck of clues, so if you really played it a lot you might be able to guess sooner than someone who plays once in a blue moon. Another downside is it can often be hard for the clue giver to determine where something belongs, either because the categories are surprisingly fuzzy or because some words don't fit the given categories well. At times this can be fun (it gives the clue-giver a role in the game other than as a pure referee) but at times it can be frustrating.
Just played this over Thanksgiving and we were surprised at the difficulty. We went straight to the 3 rings and the harder attribute cards and we quickly moved back down. There were a few times I was sure what one of the categories was and found out I was wrong when placing a card there.
