Inside the Pentagon Leak: Is This Case More Significant than Edward Snowden? | Amanpour and Company

  • In Boston, a low-ranking 21-year-old National Guardsman is facing charges over the most significant leak of U.S. military secrets in a decade. The classified Pentagon documents allegedly posted by Jack Teixeira on social media expose the extent of U.S. spying and reveal details of Ukraine’s military plans. The Pentagon is in damage-control mode, calling the leak a “deliberate criminal act.” Among the reporters who first broke the story is Shane Harris of The Washington Post. He explains to Walter Isaacson how he helped track down the suspect.

    Political grooming works even better if you don't specifically talk about politics. Making young people ‘believe’ they are superior to others or it's funny to use racial slurs is the essence of racism. These cyber echo chambers, pandemics or not, are easily exploited by political intentions.

      He showed that the Pentagon is a brothel! The USA should thank Jack for showing the world the true inactive face of the Pentagon. For years, Russia has been hijacking US technologies in a hybrid way, although the US does not even suspect it. Russia needs a bureaucratic Pentagon.
      How long will it take for the USA to become Russia's slave? With its inaction, the Pentagon is speeding up this time.

      The implication of Perjury by Generals and State Department officials appears to be something that could be prosecuted?
      If an authoritarian government lies to the public, are they still a valid group?
      If Kyiv is losing as is visibly presented daily on several websites,
      the Administration appears to be sponsoring a cover up.
      Does Wall Street Dictate Policy?
      Corruption is a serious charge.
      The West can not afford the financial support of the conflict any longer.

    Jack Teixeira's superior officers would have known or had a feeling Jack was a security risk, because his behavior in the first minutes they were introduced to him would have--should have--sent off alarm bells. They are trained to spot outliers and when someone is even close to being extremist, it is a red flag in the spy business. Jack's background and off-work activities should also have been scrutinized. Why his behavior didn't cause suspicion to his superiors or to his parents is troubling. This is a major embarrassment for the intelligence community in America and the people who are responsible for security in the organization must be replaced. American intelligence agencies are getting to be known as a sieve; this is not good and one can imagine how much work it is going to take to get back trust from friendly nations and agencies who have been spied upon. But by far, the worst thing is that Teixeira's careless actions may have put secret agents’ lives at risk. Secretary of Defense Austin is not doing his job and he should resign over this incident. This spill of across-the-board intelligence agencies' secret data has placed a dark cloud over the Administration. American spy tactics are now known six ways from The Oval Office and above all else, this is inexcusable no matter what sort of spin that they are going to put on it and heads should roll. To carelessly allow government secrets to be viewed by a junior member of the intelligence community by someone just beginning in the business shows how naïve and incompetent those at the top really are, and one can imagine that others like Jack Teixeira have done and/or are doing the same thing but haven’t been caught yet. There is no excuse for this...

      @TE'KANNON. What outlier? It's normal for someone in the military to like guns. It's also normal for an I.T. guy to like computer games and online chat. Belief in God is also within the norm. What else would you consider to be a red flag? Just curious and best regards.

    • @MrCiaranm
      @MrCiaranm Рік тому

      Hmmm... Mr. Vindman was subpoenaed by Congress, and he apparently was truthful. We can assume he was truthful because his testimony aligned with Fiona Hill and William Taylor. Additionally, having access to classified information is not an excuse to allow Gov personnel to commit crimes or unethical behavior. Tying military aid to Ukraine to investigations into political opponents is unethical and violates laws applying to Gov employees.
