The world we live in is absolutely overwhelming at times. Anytime I need to escape it for a while and completely reset, I play this video. Hit play, close your eyes, and let one of the most incredible songs heal your soul. Thank you so much for allowing us to be part of your amazing musical journey. Truly soul healing.
ITs refreshing when an Artist stays true to what is their sound, their style, yet, it just naturally gently evolves because thats how it should. I hope that SJ keeps making these type gems that first drew her fans to her music. Most Artist ruin their success because they get caught up in trying to be something they are not, or they just decide that the proof of artistry is change for the sake of change, and that, will always fail. The True artist just strives to perfect what is already working just fine.... as that'll take a llifetime.
@@bossHogOG Its possible to be a true artist and be smart about it... So, the rules you are applying, dont apply to a smart artist who wants to remain an artist that keeps selling records. The Smart Artist understands what works...in other words....."what do my fans see me as, and how do they want me to provide their fix on records and in concert."".. This is an artist like STING... He could "do whatever" but if he does, he will do it with an eye towards the fans. Its possible to be an artist and live in a cave while starving. That is the one that you are describing.. But if you want SUCCESS in the world, you have to be smart enough to understand how the world works, and then you have to be talented enough to do your own thing, but in a way that SELLS RECORDS and fills concert halls. Sarah is not oblivious to this, tho i think that Molly Tuttle is still trying to figure this out.
Oh, how we love Sarah, and in my family it's special to sit and watch her together. That sounds awkward but I think you know the feeling I mean - such beauty and warmth in her music.
This is a wonderful song . . . the voicings on John's guitar change on almost every pass, her voice is crystal . . . and, as a guitarist I have to say the chord changes are nice to see. Simple chords, uncommon construction - on the instrumental bits in particular. I would love to write music like she hears music.
Such a beautiful song! I enjoyed the soothing affect of your melodious singing voice, Sarah, and the sonorous, perfectly timed tones from your guitar, John. Thank you both for sharing this duet with us here. It was a pleasure to hear after a hard day at work.
Heard this on West Virginia Public Radio. I had to look it up so I didn't forget the title. Absolutely stunning song. I love your positively beautiful voice. Keep up the tremendous work.
Yes. Clean and true. Loved everything about the effort and delivery (foot taps were great). There's some talent that just shines. I'm wearing shades for this.
My goodness Sarah, I was looking forward to tomorrow anyway but listening to this in a quiet room with my eyes shut took me away and made me wonder what inspired this. Thank you both for making this, and I look forward to hearing the rest of the album soon!
What an amazing talent you are!! I have been listening to you through your whole collection...From the heart definately....I have passed your amazing talent to my other musicians.. I know what really caught my attention was ...we know how hard it is to sing and play a Dylan song... You hit me right between the eyes with "Ring Them Bells" Totally masterful ...Great job of giving us musicians out here a way to master Dylan's songs.. I will for sure be there in Greenfield, MA as I am on Cape Cod.. Keep playin with your heart ....
John is one of the most tasteful guitar players ever. Love his playing with Shawn and he is a perfect producer for Sarah. Does anyone know for sure of the tuning he is in? I saw the comments below but has anyone confirmed that tuning? Thanks!
In the shadow of the cypress tree I stumbled in its tangled roots Surrounded by the tree's forgotten leaves My knees were bloodied, hands were bruised Well I was down upon the muddy ground I dug my hands into the earth I think I found it now And nothing else will do A heart that burns so true Burning orange and blue Overtaken by this fever dream I kept digging underground Tried to figure out just what it means To find a thing that can't be found 'Cause I think I found it now And nothing else will do A heart that burns so true Burning orange and blue I'm still kneeling by the water's edge The sky is black and thunder rolls But now I hold this heart within my hands And I won't ever let it go 'Cause I think I found it now And nothing else will do A heart that burns so true Burning orange and blue Burning orange and blue Burning orange and blue Burning orange and blue
As lovely as this is, I think Sarah's solo performance on Sarah Jarosz Performing Songs from World on the Ground (see UA-cam video), accompanying herself on her octave mandolin, is even lovelier.
@@Katyaleigh Awesome! I’ve never tried that. After rereading my comment, I realized someone might have thought I was referring to the octave mandolin. I’m horrible at alternate tunings...I generally play alternative instruments if I want to get out of a rut. Thanks!
plainkate621 I sat down and played through it. Sort of. :) What I did notice is that it appears to be the same tuning as “84,000 Different Delusions” and “All Fall Down,” both of which he recorded with Shawn Colvin. The first strings are the same as my tenor guitar, and similar to a mandolin, which also means you can play a one-finger version of “Message In A Bottle” by the Police with it. Not that Andy Summers played it that way...he just has stretchy fingers.
What tuning is John using on this recording???? I can’t stop watching this video! We have been huge fans of yours Sarah since we saw you at Gruene Hall with Alex and Nathaniel Smith!!! Chills!!!!!!!!
If I'm not mistaken, I believe John is using his CGDGBE tuning that he's used over the years. If not, it's something close. I also think there may be one root note overdubbed in the chorus. In the video, he's not hitting the one place that the note would be possible in the tuning. But I could be wrong too and just not informed enough, so take this all with a grain of salt...
I like this better than the album version, which was already freaking great. John has become one of my favourite guitar players over the past few years. So tasteful. And Sarah is brilliant.
Excellent, understated guitar work by John, and Sarah's magnificent, sweet voice. And yet the combination greatly exceeds the sum of the parts. Ah, the magic of a perfect pairing.
Sarah Jarosz...the only being in the Universe who can make Chris Thile play to his FULL potential and not just do his usual spectacular noodling...watch any Live From Here to see this happen.
You're absolutely brilliant Sarah. Beautiful collaboration with the great John Leventhal. Thank you for making me smile!

This song also does the same Sarah Jarosz - Good At What I Do.
That guitar tone is surreal. I love Sarah’s music and vocals but I can’t stop listening to Leventhal’s playing and tone in this.
gorgeous! Thanks
beautiful.
It seems to me that everything you do is absolutely lovely. You are a blessing to so many of us. Many thanks
Fabulous duet! Sarah’s voice is amazing, and, of course, John Leventhal’s playing is so very tasteful and soulful.
UA-cam should introduce a golden buzzer button which I would definitely hit for this song and performance. 🙏❤️
Listened to this song many times, heard it today for the first time 🔥💙
Awesome

Logical fallacy. “The true artist” does whatever they want.

Looking forward to seeing Sarah in London this August
She nearly forgot to play Orange and Blue. Glad she didn't. Glorious
@simontl924 highlight of the night for me along with Blue Heron Suite

Every time I see any video featuring Sarah, it's the highlight of my week.
Never heard of that song. Love how the guitar intertwines with the vocals. Outstanding Job!
Another amazing piece of art from Sarah.
This is the best thing in music right now.
😊Sarah makes some great MUSIC!

What a great song, and a fantastic duo right here. Bravo!
The sound between your voice and the guitar is so clean. I love it! You are a true gift.
chilling and beautiful.
Wow...so beautiful.
OMG. This is spectacular. So fun to watch and listen! John's playing is stunning. Sarah's voice never better.
John is incredible
Depth , sincerity and such a wonderful sound !
Transcendental. Elegant. Lovely.
This, "Johnny" & "Maggie" are superb - some of your best stuff. Can't wait to hear rest of the album. Thx Sarah. ❤️🎶
This song...and the album...are indelible.

I feel bad for not knowing more about John, having just read his wikipedia page; hello and thank you again for being a part of Sarah's success!
Holy fudge! you got John to play with you. That's awesome!
One of my best friends took his life and this song crushes me every time. How could I been a better friend.
so sorry
Can't wait for the CD to show up. Thanks for this version--John's guitar is mesmerizing.
I just used the same word to describe the record!
LOVE Sarah! xo peace
This is so beautiful!
Today is a good day. I discovered Sarah Jarosz. Not sure why it took me so long. Maybe UA-cam needs to work on their algorithm.
get everything since she was 18 in 2009. :) first acl appearance she's 18! ua-cam.com/video/Z6-2i6uGV_0/v-deo.html
Very nice, thanks for posting.
Waiting for the new album to arrive in my mailbox. A lovely item to look forward to.
Gorgeous
Beautiful song, playing, singing, all of it. Just so pure. Really looking forward to the new record tomorrow. Congratulations Sarah!

They fit together so well, love that subtle tremolo.

Perfect!
Love
Nice work Sarah and John!
wow this is exquisite!
Wow…again…
In the shadow of the cypress tree
I stumbled in its tangled roots
Surrounded by the tree's forgotten leaves
My knees were bloodied, hands were bruised
Well I was down upon the muddy ground
I dug my hands into the earth
I think I found it now
And nothing else will do
A heart that burns so true
Burning orange and blue
Overtaken by this fever dream
I kept digging underground
Tried to figure out just what it means
To find a thing that can't be found
'Cause I think I found it now
And nothing else will do
A heart that burns so true
Burning orange and blue
I'm still kneeling by the water's edge
The sky is black and thunder rolls
But now I hold this heart within my hands
And I won't ever let it go
'Cause I think I found it now
And nothing else will do
A heart that burns so true
Burning orange and blue
Burning orange and blue
Burning orange and blue
Burning orange and blue
I just found this one and I love it! Does anyone know what tuning John is using?
What else can you expect in life...?
This was amazing. John is so smooth and your voice sounds as beautiful as ever
wish this was the version of Orange and Blue that was released on the CD
mind blown!! watch kids no editing and autotune
As lovely as this is, I think Sarah's solo performance on Sarah Jarosz Performing Songs from World on the Ground (see UA-cam video), accompanying herself on her octave mandolin, is even lovelier.
🎶🎙🧡💙🎙🎶
What a beautiful sound (as always!). I would love to know what microphone you are using on this recording. Just stunning!
👍👍👍👏👏👏😂😂😂
Beautiful! Can you tell me what the tuning is? Thank you!
Beautiful! But what kind of guitar is the one played by Sarah?
It’s an octave mandolin. You’ll see it in a lot of her videos
@@jamesarthurkimbell thank you.
Is he playing a Martin 00-18?
18/01/2021: so the thrill is gone then?
What is the John Leventhal tuning here?
That is some weird tuning on the guitar. Anybody know what it is? It is an open tuning, but seems reeeeeeeaaaalllly low with a capo.
I haven't played through the whole song yet, but seems like cgdgbe.

How about Madi Cunningham?
Richard Haas I almost agree, yet Gaby Moreno might be inthat universe too.
Wow, dramatic. Shut up
Magic, when musicians truly listen to each other.
This is just so beautiful.........all aspects, voice/guitar-work (!)/audio
I love John as much as I love Sarah. And BOY do I love them.
