      I totally agree with your stand, I also do not tune in to all of her podcast episodes and I am selective with every other podcast, youtube video - it's not like the creator has to please everybody. I do not think that it's the downfall of Emma, perhaps a part of her audience is changing, but what is the need to push someone down just because you (the listener) don't agree with her opinions or just random rant, the internet is odd sometimes.

    The people insinuating they’re more qualified to, I’m sorry.. do what? Host a podcast? Or the people implying they are in some way better than her because they went to college, it’s actually so backwards. A degree doesn’t make you a better person, and tons of people succeed without degrees. They still deserve respect.

      Ok, so i watched another video talking about it, and no, the critics were about how her podcast show a lack of critical thinking or that she doesn't really know how to research her topic so in the end she talks about topics like a high schooler.

      Americas obsession with college or university degrees is only toped by south korea I think (highest suicide rate from all first world nations btw.). Spending a fortune on sometimes useless degrees for jobs you def. dont need to go to college for and then having an amount of debt that would make me cry. And dont even get me started about free education nowadays. The internet is amazing and offers more equality in accessibility of education. When everyone has a degree, it loses its value too. Those degrees used to be for the most academicly gifted and now you need one to work a normal office job? Pointless. I have a full time job as designer in an agency and never went to university. It was all about skills and my works when I applied. I am also rooting hard for people learning crafts again. This is dying out and everything gets made in China.

      @@MinieAnne She's just voicing her opinions and if people don't like them...then don't listen to them. She never claimed to be some kind of "intellectual" she rambles alot... She could do research...but she doesn't, because she is expressing herself, she's not "informing" people on the topic she's talking about. Again she's expressing *her opinions*

      @@Nikki-lh1tuokay but if that’s the case, her opinion won’t give any influence, no one is going to listen to someone, who didn’t research about a topic. I understand everyone is free to express themselves but her opinion will be meaningless and no one would listen to her, which it doesn’t benefit her. Why do they mention people in college? because most of them do their research about their topics they spent time doing it. Of course anyone can do it without going to college but SHE isn’t doing it that’s why. If she wanted to stay relevant (she’s an influencer) she has to do the work

    For non native English speakers, many language teachers recommended her podcast when learning English as a 2nd/3rd language. Her podcast is easy to digest, her vocab is inclusive and simple to follow. I appreciate how she explains the definition of the topic first. I like the conversational style. Just because her critics find it “unintellectual “ doesn’t mean it isn’t a chill alternative learning resource for others. No one has fact checked her podcast analytics. She’s one of the top podcasts in her category. Its mostly privileged classist middle class girls that look like her pushing the “goto college” comparisons. It’s giving envious, crab in barrel.

    When I listen to Emma’s podcast, it’s like listening to a friend talk about a topic that has been on her mind. She talks in a slow pace and sometimes her words doesn’t match her thoughts (I’ve been there too). People need to realise that she is a real person and not just someone on our screens to watch when are bored of real life. She might not have a degree but she is a living creature on earth and has her own thoughts on life and what happens around us. And she wants to share them with us, we can at least be grateful for that. We need to see life without cuts and edits, without filters.
    + People change, and if you can’t accept that then you need to learn how to because change is a part of life.

      Yeah, the hive mind and redundant repetitive criticism of “she needs school, she’s lost her relatability, she’s not profound. Yadi Yada” is driving it way past home. I do think think it’s just people having sour grapes and simply outgrowing something and getting sassy about it.
      The whole contrived and parasocial schtick of ‘monetized relatability and authenticity’ is already a corporate dystopian concept.
      Why are people so ready to follow into this cult of personality and help popularize someone because of this perceived relatability until they reach a point where they simply can’t be relatable anymore? because once they get a stack of money and deals for acting like ‘your cute little gremlin friend struggling through life with you’ the whole illusion breaks down.

      Some people say Emma is a pretty girl with pretty privilege - but seeing her in unflattering ways, her with acne and a messy bun and burping on screen makes her look like a very average,regular girl despite her family being better off than most viewers. Seeing a regular girl like yourself make it to fame and success and get invited to all these fashion shows and suddenly get elevated with fancy makeup and clothes - I agree, I think there's an element of jealousy and resentment. Many are probably questioning how is she worth being invited to all these events and hosting the met bc they saw her in her flaws

  • @BombshElle_7
    @BombshElle_7 10 місяців тому +197

    Speaking as a Milennial who is only vaguely familiar with Emma, this was a very fair analysis. Emma isn't a regular teenager anymore. She's gone from being recorded in her kitchen to be recorded on red carpets. Her life experience is unique. So if she's no longer relatable to you, that's fine. It's disappointing, but it's not the end of the world. Find someone else to listen to. On the other hand, it's clear Emma needs a sounding board or collaborators so she can gain more perspective. That will greatly enhance her podcast alone.

She got famous at 16 and quit school and is a millionaire and the age of 22, OF COURSE she is not gonna be relatable to most people. That doesn’t mean what she has to say is completely stupid and void. If you are lookinh for relatability, big influencers who live in LA and have their own companies in their 20’s and never had to get close to a university are not gonna give you that relatability, honey. Simple as that. Also I dont think she is trying to become a “voice of a generation” with her podcast. She just wants to be able to make a living out of content without having to leave her bed sometimes. Anyone here woudl do the same if they had the opportunity, lets be honest. As someone who has spent too much time in uni, its definitely not for everyone. I don't think you are necessarily 'smart' if you go to uni/college and it's super rude to insinuate that someone 'should' go. But it is also annoying when people believe that uni just provides you with intellectual knowledge - uni is place to meet different people, make connections, and understand other's opinions. I'm certain you can have these experiences outside of uni, but for some of us, uni is the place where we learned about who we are and met some of our closest friends - so its understandable why people believe uni is for everyone (when its not). In the end, its Emma's choice and saying she needs to college/uni is extremely arrogant.

What we can do is find some creator that suits us , that is relateable to us. We can grow out of situations and people and that is totally okay and it is not their duty to change as we do.(I haven't watch her videos or listen to her podcasts but that's just what i thought )

    People need to understand not everything is made for them. They may not find it deep or interesting but others will. I know that I’m not really a podcast listener myself (apart from sometimes listening to trash taste and frenemies) so I know that I’m not going to go out of my way to listen to hers. Also if people genuinely think that university makes you a critical thinker, then I’m concerned. You don’t need to be in education to be able to think and learn, we’re humans that’s what we’re supposed to do in our lives regardless of whatever institutions that exist. Also I’ve met so many people at university who don’t even think in general so thinking critically is too far out of their skill set.

    Hello, a real philosopher here. Not all of the thoughts have to be posted on the internet. And yes, to make sure that your “opinion” is valuable, you require a certain degree of education to have a certain amount of background knowledge and expand your thinking. Also, not all of the opinions are knowledge. Whatever such podcasts create is informational garbage. And myself as a philosopher have to fight with it a lot. People get confused when there is so many “thoughts and opinions” and 0 knowledge. I had no idea about this influencer since I am pretty much from a different continent and thinking hygiene requires me not to watch or listen to mediocre stuff (it makes your thinking staffed and slow). But I mean… can we post smth valuable? Instead of just “podcast about my thoughts”? We claim to be the smartest generation but actually to “post” anything out there a century ago you had to have education and earn the right to be published. Therefore the quality of “opinions” was different. And yes, I agree, this “interned wisdom” is a facepalm because if there was any education, the quality of thoughts would have been way higher and more valuable. Most things people say on the internet are said just due to the lack of education.

    All the charges of her to be uneducated are pure classism, there is no other way to call it. Basically all over the western world the cultural field is a prerogative of high class people, it's a locked environment; you can access to it only if you belong to specific social groups. Can she improve? Of course she can but, really, this is not the point: people are not criticize her for her content, they are just hating her with classist insults.

    I remember Emma saying the first podcast she tried to produce was about science and it the terms got too complex to make content about. I understand that when one opens science textbooks there is math and it can be daunting to learn by yourself this topics and later have to make a podcast about it. She gave up on this project, and decided to talk about more social topics like relationships, loneliness, strategies to be productive. I think that many of the followers know that Emma was very active in studying in highschool and had discipline. She also got into reading for fun. Maybe is ok to wish that she can learn more about fields that we see she has an interest in. I do feel she could become more sophisticated in her knowledge, because staying shallow just to be relatable is not cool. I think she could become better if she becomes more knowledgeful in a topic, like social relationships (Social Sciences) , a formal education will give her more confidence when she speaks and she can become wiser for herself and maybe, if she chooses for others. We should always try to become better not try to imitate a persona we created in the past for the like of others.

    Having an education doesn't mean everyone who has a qualification is intelligent. Many are clapping seals who lack critical thinking skills. Many intelligent people don't go down the road of academia. I use to assume "educated" meant a super intelligent person, but most of the graduates I use to be friends with, were just smug, someone who just wants to make their entire identity about their piece of paper yet still cannot land the job with a lot of debt. Education is important, but be intelligent... not to project it.

  • @VanillaAestract

    I think the recent hate train directed towards her can be said due to the constant fear of falling behind among our generation. She initially started out and became popular by being a relatable and open person on the internet, she was really open about her struggles and hardships in the age where many influencers were portraying their lives as "perfect" and "aesthetic". That's why people felt a sort of relatability and kinship towards her. But now that she has become really successful as a gen z icon and now mainly focusing on her bussines and podcast where she talks about her struggles and philosophical topics really seems unappealing towards her audience, who now have grown up or became an adult facing different types of struggle in their day to day life. So seeing someone already successful talking about things really may not relatable to her audience

  • @missaniebananie6473
    @missaniebananie6473 8 місяців тому +1

    It is insane that people expect her to be relatable after several years of insane fame and money. That would change anyone and everyone, that goes double for child stars. 100% she is not relatable because she literally can’t relate to the adult world as a regular person, she has not ever had that experience. She had a normal childhood but her audience has aged with her but not with her content because they have all had to be adults in the real world and she literally never has. It is not her “fault” and it is kind of crazy for anyone to expect her to be that same person that she was in 2018.

I agree that the “needs to go to college” argument sounds elitist and honestly quite old fashioned. No one has it all figured out, and Emma is trying to say that she does. There’s some really kind comments on here! I loved the point about just because she’s got a bit of hate on tiktok recently, it doesn’t mean she’s gonna change herself for that- we connect with different people at different times, and so I think there’s an audience for everyone/everything.

    People just have high expectations of her. I never watched or followed her but as I can see, she was kind of a role model to look up to, for most of her audience. She seemed like a safe place to escape to. Her audience caught up with her. Either she has to develop her philosophy and thinking skills or her audience. There is no other way. Important to know is that just going to college will not make you a better or smarter person. If you are willing to develop yourself, maybe but there is no guarantee. Just a bachelor will not show your intelligence 😅, this will never be a valid reason. Reading the same book at different ages will always be different, so the view towards people we looked up to. If they are so smart they could literally start to read and teach themselves deport thinking skills. Emma has a specific audience as targets and these are pre teens or teenagers, which is okay 👍

    I don’t think it matters that she dropped out or didn’t go to college. I don’t think she has to go to college. She can talk about whatever she wants on her podcast. However, being ‘bored’ is a privilege. I can’t blame people for not connecting with her content anymore because it’s true that she is out of touch. I honestly and personally can’t bare to listen to self-pitying ‘I’m so sad, I’m so bored’ videos. A lot of people don’t have time to wallow or be bored. From the lower class struggling to provide for themselves and their family, wars and famine in other countries, i cant empathise with sad girls in their mansions who really do nothing other than sell their coffee and attend met galas with the other sheltered celebs. Its not even a case of ‘rich person bad’, there are many people with high paying jobs who benefit the world like doctors but influencers and celebrities are merely pretentious. It’s true that she should try and keep herself busy but of course college isn’t the only option, but I don’t blame people for disliking her.

I think that maybe if she switched to a different outlet- like if she was a late night talk show host? Like a new gen Z Jimmy Fallon? Or a cooking show? I think she has so much potential, but I think ALL podcasts can start to be an echo chamber after a while. It’s just like someone talking to themselves for an hour? I think her “relatability” has just gone out of style for now, which is unfortunate.

    i watched emma around 5 years ago till maybe last year, and i've only listened to maybe 2 or 3 episodes of her podcast
    it was never that serious, imo, everything that she has put out was always personal in a way that it's like she's thinking out loud and on the internet, processing her thoughts as she's filming, personally i've never taken what she said seriously like a source of information ykwim, it's more like an entertainment since it is her own thoughts on camera, like it's kind of hard to explain so i hope it makes sense
    also, i've felt this since she stopped putting much "effort" in her videos, i.e. forcing the algorithm using thumbnails and loud titles, she's changed professionally to another tier of popularity, yes the met gala, vogue, fashion week, the new house, honestly i think popularity isn't the right word but the brain is not braining atm, example that i think is similar is with nailea devora but i think nai is a bit grounded but still closely in that category of popularity
    i think the change is for the better, i'm glad that she's grown so much, like it's crazy how much relatability can do, and whatever she's gonna do with people putting out bullshit on her, i hope she's not taking it seriously as i didn't to her shit lol, do what you wanna do girl ong
