As a Vietnam Veteran the first time I heard Tight Rope I knew he was singing about guys like me and every freaking relationship we would ever have. I loved his music and still do, especially Out in the Woods. Thank you Elton John for bringing his career back to where it should have been in the first place. R.I.P. Leon, your music lives on through those who hear it, share it and bring new generations to your amazing talent.

What I admire about him is that he never let go of his faith, he proved he wasn't prejudice and he just was kind and loving to everybody. We all have our own insecurities and he certainly had his but once on stage you'd never know. God bless his remaining family members.

Leon Russel a musician of many unique and awesome talents!! I think anyone who plays piano will recognize how good he was at playing piano. I guess his mom was a pianist so he got the gift. That said he was paralyzed on his right side from birth trauma. His right hand was weak but he was one determined person. I see his daughter is recording now in The Church studio. She sings beautifully 😊

"Bobby "Whiplash" Whitlock, who played on this album, says the Plantation was a house in the San Fernado Valley area, in California: "I used to live at the Plantation - remember the song, 'Shoot-out at the Plantation' that Leon Russell wrote? There was 13 of us: 'Indian Ed' Davis, Jimmy Karstein; there was a bunch of us living in this house in California."
"The song is about a jealous boyfriend, a 'Jimmy Markham’ who showed up at a party at the Plantation loud & drunk. Taj Mahal’s drummer Chuck Blackwell who was in bed with Jimmy’s girl. Jimmy began to carry on, waking up the ‘Colonel’ (probably the home owner). From the top of the stairs, the Colonel basically told Jimmy to shut up saying girls are not for fightin. When Jimmy wouldn’t stop the Colonel left and re-appeared naked wearing a 38 and proceeded to start shooting down at Jimmy, who had hidden behind some bongo drums. Jimmy took off uninjured - although the drums had holes. Note also: Davis was in the concert for Bangldesh''.

From where I was I could see part of the backstage area. Leon came up in a hover around, needed a cane to get to the back of the stage. I thought this was going to be kind of sad. He sat behind the piano and blew everybody away!! he played like it was 1969, and his voice was awesome. Had not lost a thing. highlight of the show for me was just Leon and the piano he played His Eye is on the Sparrow, and meant every word. RIP

I think it’s the same guy who played on Dave Mason’s Alone Together. And when the Shelter People came to London and Clapton suddenly appeared on stage at the Rainbow to jam, nobody noticed.

@@AFaceintheCrowd01 I see 2 guitarists listed on the Leon album who might have toured with the Shelter People . You can hear Leon on ALONE TOGEATHER . Im pretty vague on second guitarists on board for that album . I remember Steve Winwood's great playing .

I was lucky enough to catch leon @ johnny Winter playing at a very small bar in houston, must have been last minute. Almost no one there, played their hearts out just having their own fun around 1976. There was an 800 number telling who was playing on Westhiemer, long street full of bars then, heard that @ RAN round the corner. So lucky
