There is plenty in the great Australian Bight and one of the biggest reserves of Shale oil is in the Bowen Basin Qld, if the shit does hit the fan, do you think these premiers will have any say.
Yeah they’ve thought of that, it will run out just as things kick off. No worries though they are prototyping an electric armored vehicle that could use fieikd solar👍 Instead of three day’s operations on unit fuel you can have 3 hours and somehow charge it. (I’m not joking).
Serious problem, but remember we have a large reserve stashed away.... In America lol > On a more serious note we do have the ability to roll out small portable fuel distillers manufactured here in Australia that will produce diesel and aviation fuel, and we also have a large reserve of light fuel oil. But we still need some reserves in the tanks while getting them online at scale.
100% agree. All cars manufactured overseas . Food especially imported I’m absolutely stunned over the last few years with all those jobs gone and unemployed up 80% and that’s what’s sad

Australia couldn't defend Bondi Beach with our present force, and virtually zero industrial capacity, it would take 100 years to build the infrastructure to build the manufacturing abilities to build the weapons to build a defence force. A PTE soldier in the Army Reserves could tell you that. We are all smoke and mirrors out of Canberra
@hdmccart6735 Eactly what weapon systems are you referring to and in what quantity. The PLA would walk over the ADF like it was a minor speed hump. This has nothing to do with the quality of our soldiers ect and everything to with our design, weapon systems, ect. Our senior command is more interested in woke ideology then any coherent strategic or tactical doctrine. The ADF has been structured as an organisation to draw bespoke capabilities from for particular deployments, not as a stand alone intergrated fighting force.

Exactly. Moaning about not fighting because you can't buy a house is idiotic. If the country is at war, you'll be more worried about eating and having enough food. People have grown so soft over the years, perhaps they should look at History and see how Australia struggled in WW2. Butter was a luxury FFS.
So you own a house then yes? Because you’re missing the point entirely. Whether they will or they won’t fight is irrelevant, what does matter is that you have two generations that substantially don’t really care for our country because they’ve been brought up on a steady diet of we’re guilty for what white settlers did in somebody else’s lifetime, we’re ruining the planet, oh and by the way, for most of your miserable time on this rock you’re going to be flat out putting food in your mouth and a roof over your head when AI comes for the jobs, let alone ever daring to dream about sharing in the dream of property ownership, which for most of them is a 2-bedroom sky kennel an hour from where they work, oh and don’t even bother about thinking about having kids because you’ll still be paying off a $100k degree, then saving 39 years to buy the average property in Sydney on an average wage, so you’ll never feel financially well off enough to actually have them... We have completely shafted the next generations and it is showing up in Defence recruitment numbers just as much as anywhere else and these blithering idiots in Canberra either don’t know or don’t care about the impact that will have on our society much less our readiness for the wars that will come our way whether we want them or not.

Michael paints a picture of impending desperarion that imho is fuelled by the ongoing breakdown of the very fabric of our society. This is being helped by unsafe mass immigration and dwindling investment in our youth training and localized manufacturing. Too many chiefs not enough Indians in the ADF. Instead of giving giant sums of money (which is Not working) to our soldiers to encourage retention, give them a reason to want to stay. People in our Beautiful Country are losing hope and sadly, that makes it difficult to have the patriotism to want to fight for it. We need better people at the top both in Government and the ADF.
Recruitment processes for the Australian military are absurdly long - 18 months or more from application to employment is not unusual! And apparently there is a goal to reduce that to 100 days! If I took that long to employ staff I would be out of business! By the time the military offers a job the applicant has given up and found work elsewhere.
I’d been attempting to contact the late Jim Molan with a National Morale strategy which I placed as priority 1. And you cannot win wars without a people who believe we are worth fighting for This included a revised traditional/conservative national education reform enforced at federal level that teaches the best that’s been thought and said - measured in COMPETENCE not IDEOLOGY… Other priorities 1. Develop revised asymmetrical defence strategy 2. Put the broom through all bloated government organisation and bureaucracy and rehire on competence and merit 3. Drastically reduce the 215 billion dollars of welfare spending per year - including the NDIS and encourage family units to provide support also community 4. Financially incentivise and welcome private entrepreneurs to develop energy, fuel, asymmetrical weapon/strategy/logistic/tactics/security 5. Deploy federal mandate for reintroduction of national service (1 year minimum) 6. Incentivise and recruit merchant marine secured with asymmetric lethal capability 7. Restart base industry including production of steel, foods and textiles etc 8. Provide government support for farmers, trades, STEM workers for infrastructure, food production
Further to the proposals given, I'd say that we need to consider foreign nationals to bolster Defence, particularly from the Commonwealth and our close allies. I know we've done a bit of this, but we should step things up with regards to Canada, South Africa and the UK. Lots of members of their Defence forces are upset with cuts to their Defence Forces, and as bad as things are in Australia, they're worse in those countries, particularly Canada. I'd also try to recruit people who aren't in the Defence forces of those countries, and target young civilians with the promise of Australian Residency, and possibly Citizenship on the completion of five or six years service. At least these type of new immigrants will have military training and some sort of pride in the ADF, having put their lives on the line for the flag. We should run recruiting caravans in major cities. We also need to speed up the recruitment process, which can take nearly a year or more. It shouldn't take longer than four months or less. If you look at what the US did when they had bases in the Philippines, they also recruited Filipinos who were already in the Philippines military, and offered them chances for US residency in exchange for six year commitments to the US Navy, Marines or Air Force. It's proven that those initial recruits had children who went on to serve in the US Military so they are the kind of immigrants you want to have. The other thing is fuel reserves. Australia relies on roads to distribute petrol and diesel, and we have about a week of fuel reserves. If someone blockaids us, our economy will grind to a halt very quickly. The Gov't needs to come up with a Strategic Reserve to have at least three months of fuel supplies to deal with contingencies. As for Air Defense, it's madness to be waiting for some future C&C system. We need to be buying many more NASAMS, not just for the North, but we need to raise Reserve Units to operate them close to our other bases and major cities, particularly Perth and Sydney, where our fleet bases are. As was pointed out, you want to get rid of subs, and ships, take them out when they're in Port. We should also be fast tracking longer ranged systems. I'd also go back to the Navantia's proposal of three more AWDs built in Spain and delivered one every two years. These are mobile Air Defence Platforms with sophisticated radar and the ability to take out ICBMs with SM-3. They also are currently our best ASW assets with towed sonar arrays. We already operate them, so training crews will be far easier and we can retire ANZACs and transfer their crews to these new AWDs. Three of these is pretty useless, we likely only have one available because they're cycling the others through maintenance cycles. Further, let's start manufacturing HIMARS, NSMs and other munitions locally, ASAP. And look towards other systems like the newly proposed Anduril Baracudda cruise missile systems that's been proposed for the US. These are modular and scalable and partnering with them in Australia to build these would be a good investment. We need to get moving now!
Looking at our military where it is operated on DEI priciples instead of picking the best skilled person for the job, along with taking people into our military with a declared prior comitment to a religion that has the down fall of infadel nations such as ours in it sights. Get the lunacy out of our military and some aussies might think of joining up.
Firstly .... I acknowledge Im no expert, but with the 6 recommendations, Ukraine being the first, I struggle to see the parallel. They are fighting a predominantly land based war. Any conflict we are likely to see will not be land based so are any lessons from Ukraine applicable ? Michael is clearly better placed than me to comment, but hey, just my observation.
Sadly NO as one Australian Admiral said some years ago “WE COULDNT PROTECT BOTANY BAY ON A HOT SUNDAY AFTERNOON “ ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ We should follow Finland ,Poland , Singapore and several others The USA also and have a properly trained and armed on call ….
Australia has sold the military supply chain ADI support for defense! The American style procurement has been a demonstrated failure! The involvement of Foreign companies with ADI who have shut down large manufacturing facilities in a clear attempt to force Australia to buy direct from EU or USA! The involvement of states and civil snouts in the defense trough, rather than ADI military defense manufacturing facilities that have served Australia well! To prepare for war 1) Move 155mm manufacturing to Benalla! 2) Restore manufacturing of gun barrels Naval turrets to Bendigo Including 40mm! 3) Restore the full contract number of Redbacks to Geelong! 4) Build the lower cost UK version's of the Boxer 8 wheeled APC at Bendigo as well as Bushmaster!
Without watching the video, the answer is no. No real air defence, such antiaircraft batteries, no artillery to speak of (54),can't put a division together, etc, etc. Now should we speak of airforce and navie. And then there's the munitions situation. Australia has only been a transport and logistics provider since Bob Hawk and his razor gang in the 80s. Our defence is primarily the American interests. And that's not going change any time soon with the political parties in both sides. It costs a lot of our gdp to make it right. With the current situation in the south china sea, we should have started gearing up, but typically we haven't. ❤😂🎉😅😊
Imho not in the slightest. We don’t even have sufficient fuel reserves. OECD recommends that nations hold 90 days at average usage rates. Last time I saw litres published we had less than 50 days. When questioned the relevant minister made the comment that we had around 50 days reserves stored in San Diego in Southern California. Anyone think this is a reasonable situation?

Suggest firstly the security of supply be best kept as an in-house procurement. NOT outsourced through PDS with either current administrative contractors due to collusion - corruption - breach of tendering processes resulting in contracts for mates as I witnessed in Senator Susan MacDonald enquiry which dealt with what could only be less than 1% of financial dealings within SSDS - Spotless and now Downer Groups. It was unacceptable for these contractors holding back payment of invoices up to 12mths affecting subcontractors livelihoods and that of their business and employees. Then there is the fact of these defence contractors moving finance of their operations off-shore, does this avoid GST obligations?

If you can't see that Australia has been sold out by successive governments lowering our standard of living since mid John Howard's term as prime Minister then what hope is there. With no common culture and social cohesion then yes it will be hard to find people to defend this nation. We need to stop voting for the major parties ruining this country for fake GDP numbers.

I hope so but I think we firstly need to address retention and recruiting rates. We need to control external forces on a social level regarding misinformation. It's time for discussions about national service in the least. Get the sub issue sorted. Encourage more work on missile defence ( home grown ) Let's get moving.
If billions is being siphoned to the military, a good incentive for recruitment might be higher income for new recruits and, or, housing with a term of service.

Defend a country where having a family is sending your kids off to be raised by the system rather than someone being in the home with them?

Focus on Farming, Weapons manufacturing, logistics and distribution. And yes, I do completely agree about anti-missile technology. No point of a military if we just get bombed from a distance. Anti-missile technology should be the number 1 priority.
Trump cancelled the left in the USA we now need to do that now in Australia and prevent war in the first place🎉

@@boredatseahow long do you think it will take to extract and refine it? In the meantime we need a strategic fuel reserve of at least three months.
In America lol

On a more serious note we do have the ability to roll out small portable fuel distillers manufactured here in Australia that will produce diesel and aviation fuel, and we also have a large reserve of light fuel oil. But we still need some reserves in the tanks while getting them online at scale.

Only a PTE soldier in the Army Reserves would buy your line. Love to hear your assessment of how the PLA would breach our A2AD bubble.
@hdmccart6735 Eactly what weapon systems are you referring to and in what quantity. The PLA would walk over the ADF like it was a minor speed hump. This has nothing to do with the quality of our soldiers ect and everything to with our design, weapon systems, ect.

I’d been attempting to contact the late Jim Molan with a National Morale strategy which I placed as priority 1.
And you cannot win wars without a people who believe we are worth fighting for
This included a revised traditional/conservative national education reform enforced at federal level that teaches the best that’s been thought and said - measured in COMPETENCE not IDEOLOGY…
Other priorities
1. Develop revised asymmetrical defence strategy
2. Put the broom through all bloated government organisation and bureaucracy and rehire on competence and merit
3. Drastically reduce the 215 billion dollars of welfare spending per year - including the NDIS and encourage family units to provide support also community
4. Financially incentivise and welcome private entrepreneurs to develop energy, fuel, asymmetrical weapon/strategy/logistic/tactics/security
5. Deploy federal mandate for reintroduction of national service (1 year minimum)
6. Incentivise and recruit merchant marine secured with asymmetric lethal capability
7. Restart base industry including production of steel, foods and textiles etc

Excellent presentation. Now all we need now is for people to listen and act !
Air is air regardless of it over land or sea (Aerial drones). Ukraine has well proven long distance sea drones. Plenty to learn :)
Lack of uniformed other ranks is a huge problem.

Buying Navy Frigates from Japan presents a significant supply chain risk in the event of war

It's important Australians get a deep imprint of this, because once this government become the opposition, all their waste and mismanagement will be blamed on the incoming liberal government who will inherit the task of paying all the reckless "Bowen debt", but really it's all the Labor waste and mismanagement we should keep in mind when the shit hits the fan. I t's the wasteful spending that's happened since day one. Some from day one and the unnessary poorly thought out wastefull $400illion on selfeelfindulgence nd unwanted the {look at me, look at me, indulgence of the VOICE referendum, the wasted time and money that got ALBO the nickname "Airbus ALBO", and the insane no. Of Co2 producing trips Bowen made to save the climate conferences. And yet, after all that we have no"baseload energy". Labor never could manage a budget. #neveragainlabor
AUSTRALIA MUST BE COME firs a Republic independent country and then will start making decisions about building self-defense and army industry . THIS government unser to G.B. and is simply paralysed by that factor. !!!!
Fight for what???? War what is it good for?? Absolutely nothing . Peace out ❤✌❤
Actually having listened to the talks and then read all the comments the comments here about defence are wasted as we need just to have peace. We do not need submarines as a start based on your clear statement interpretation that building them is a complete waste
After school 16-20 or 18-20 every ones got to join till 20 years old , learn manners , respect, life and work skills, defense skills, occupation skills etc .. If they want they have a choice whether they want to stay with defense or join the community and work when they are 20 with skills and qualifications they have learnt while being there.. And don’t go to war zones till they either want to stay with defense or go into the community.
Only saying cause most kids these days have no respect or manners , even when taught at home . When they leave high school year 12 , and couldn’t get into or don’t want to pay the costs of a Vet course, unskilled , no qualifications, trying to look for someone to take them on , but won’t cause no skills ( just out of high school) Can’t get a job due to lack of , or no skills or qualifications or experience) ..
Aust is completely vulnerable at this precise moment.WE must adopt a more realistic attitude to the obvious War preparations by China, immediately. Why does a country concentrate on such massive war preparations, just impress the World !!! The programme is obvious. Pay due respect to this.
Do you think the Chinese will wait for Aust to reorganise our Defence force when they can come in tomorrow and just take it because of lack of any capable defence opposition. All due respects to our past Diggers but the world has moved on. Look at what is happening around the world Wars everywhere. But she’l be ok mate we will be safe way down here. The govt must show some public initiative and prepare for that inevitable coming or we will be all speaking Cantonese.
I think the governments should focus on the homeless instead of wars.
Really? they should do both because you won't get to choose if the War comes to you.
What a silly thing to say lol
Hes chinese @axle.australian.patriot
You talk about training the human factor of the military, my question is. Will we have enough current generation from 1990 onwards who are willing to join up in the face of war? Based on the comments, there appears to be very few willing to defend our country. Using the most self-interest reason's, that are representable to today's mindset.
