Thank you Ryan for a great informative video. You made me want to include Sri Lanka in my future travels. I’d heard some disturbing things previously about travel now to Sri Lanka but I’m looking at it now for later in the year & I’ll include this hotel as a must stay, though it will be for a few extra days. Safe travels, really enjoy your content.. look forward to your next video.
Thanks for sharing this video. Our wedding was in this hotel. also, my wife was an architect who worked in this hotel renovation work. Remembers that golden memories. thank you for sharing this video and giving your heart about the economic situation of sri lanka. May all your work become success. Pathishe from New Zealand
Awesome Hotel Ryan, We visited there in 2016 that same Doorman has been on the front doors since the early 1960. My father-in-law Gazale Amit lived with his family at the Hotel for about 3 years as he was a resident Jazz Band Leader, they played there almost every night from the early 1960's. My wife was born in the Hotel in 1961 so it has a very special place in her heart. I also have some photos of the Doorman if you would like. Thanks for Sharing
This hotel totally reminds me of my stay at the E&O in Penang, Malaysia and Raffles, Singapore. I wished I got the correct visa and got out to visit Colombo. Next time! You know a quality hotel when you're met with a welcome drink. The curry lunch looked immense. $24 is pricey but considering it's a hotel meal, it's totally worth it. Seriously jelly you got to stay at this hotel. I am returning to Sri Lanka in the near future so will make sure this hotel is on the list.
Amazing content from SL and SL Airlines Ryan. Im going thee next month can't wait looks like an amazing country! My tour starts and finishes technically in Negombo so looking at going to Colombo after for a few nights at the end!
We stayed at the Galle Face hotel for three nights in the Dutch Royal Suite. The hotel is lovely; the staff and service were excellent. But it does have its problems. The room refrigerator didn’t work but was replaced within a few hours of notifying staff. The replaced refrigerator turned on but didn’t cool anything. It took a day to fix. The hair dryer didn’t work. There was no face towels or laundry bags - they just forgot to provide them and we had to ask for them. The balcony door couldn’t be bolted shut because the bolt mechanism was broken. Unfortunately this is a general theme at the hotel - there is a lack of maintenance and quality control.
Looks amazing Ryan ,and in my opinion a bargain for the price you paid . It did remind me a little of Raffles in Singapore , particularly with the courtyard , but of course without the Raffles price tag . The curry looked and no doubt tasted good , not so sure of the Barramundi though , that really looked more Gawler Arms than Raffles 😄😄. Happy travels Ryan and best of luck with the house move .
@rwsinha. Im sri lankan living in Australia(44 years) in Melbourne. I celebrated my 80th Birthday in April 2023.Stayed for two weeks .It was hot and humid. Not the melbourne weather I,m used to. I love the hotel as it is old fashion/traditions. If I go back again I will definitely stay at Gall Face.
Oh yes... I was so tempted. But I was unfortunately very jet lagged by this part of the trip. I went back to the room and actually fell into a deep sleep. 🤣 So no high tea for me.
Thanks for the review. I went to the hotel in early September 2023 and looked out for Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh’s car thanks to you! I have also written a travelogue about my stay in Sri Lanka, including family history. Sri Lanka 2023 (September 1-12) ua-cam.com/play/PL1rGaUCE7Td1xPg9b6qHRuCobFO_XZTlq.html
Had a wonderful few nights here in 2004 - just before terrible tsunami. Hotel looks wonderfully updated since those days.
Wow you mean what I experienced was the upgraded version?

Love to visit Sri Lanka, hotel looks amazing. Bet you wish you had a few nights there. Cheers
You don't say! I was only there because of the forced transit by UL. Now I want to go back there and properly experience Sri Lanka.
Glad you made time to visit the Galle Face Hotel
It’s an amazing hotel
Indeed... Its a VERY stunning and beautiful hotel.

Looks like hotel (s) have taken actions to reduce costs that is quiet visible in your video. Like mini-bar and coffee tray
Visit again and try other parts of SL. This Island is magical

Well noted!
Ryan, what a fab hotel, would need 3 nights at least. Stunning 😊
Oh yes.... I'd stay there for longer next time.
It's excellent.
When I say the title I thought that it would be a mess
Hahahaha.... Oh no! That hotel is one of the classiest I've been to. You should try it one day. Cheers, and thanks for watching!
