Worst feeling for the referee, when their mistake cost the team a title.
How was it a mistake by the ref? At the time there was no specific rule to disallow it and the ref is seen as an equal part of the field of play. He couldn’t disallow it in absence of an allowing rule and as part of the field of play he’s not seen as an outside agent therefore there is no potential argument to disallow it that way
Also that whole "they lost the title because of this" argument is absurdly dumb. That game wasn't the last one of the season, they had plenty of other games to make up for it (especially against Galatasaray, but they failed to beat them the 2 times they faced) so it's on them and no one else.

In Brazil we had a club's massagist clearing a goal at the 89th minute of a round of 16 match for our 4th division. We also had a game that ended 0.5 x 0, because the shot was so potent the ball opened. The goalkeeper defended a shot and held the ball, but the shot was so strong that the inner tube of air escaped from the leather lining (it was the 50's). The goalkeeper ended up holding only the lining, while the inner tube entered the goal. The referee then decided it was half a goal, so the game ended half to zero.
0.5 x 0? I'm curious on what game was that now 😅

For those who doesn't know the rules, the referee is treated as part of the field for these puposes.
To football fans here, is this still (technically) possible? In hockey for example the rule is if the puck goes off the referee and directly into the net, the goal is disallowed. However, If the puck hits any player or their stick after it’s deflected off the ref, it’s a good goal. I feel this rule really should be applied if it isn’t already
No, its not. Now, if the ball touches the referee, the game stops and referee has to start the game again.
Bro that referee really is MVP of the game 💀
Kudos on those pronounciations!! they were perfect!
Referees before 1984 : 100 goals a season
Referees after: 0 goals a lifetime
The refs apart of the game of course it’s a goal 😂
How is it a goal dumdum
Well, technically it's the opposite. According to the rules the ref does not physically exist. Nothing that is not a player or the ball physically exists according to the rules. So if the ball bounces off of the ref or an object that the crowd threw on the pitch (There was once a situation where the ball got deflected into the goal by a beach ball the crowd had thrown onto the pitch) then as far as the rules are concerned the ball bounced off of thin air. And the same also applies when some asshole that isn't part of the game runs on the pitch and interferes, that happened in Germany on the semi-pro level some time ago and was a controversy.

Not sure why he didn't mention it at all, but the reason a goal like this won't be scored again, is because of rule changes regarding the game officials. Back then the referee was supposed to be regarded as not there, so a goal counts when the referee is hit, as he's not part of the game in any way. As if there was a magical force that pushed the ball into the net. It's different nowadays, because the ball is considered "out of the game" as soon as it's touched by game officials. So the game will be stopped before a legitimate goal can be scored.
Now every referee wants to do this in Turkey against Besiktas

It’s football and soccer. Just use whatever’s comfortable for you, like damn. It ain’t a big deal.
The origins of football date back centuries, with various forms of ball games played across many cultures. The rules of modern football, also known as "association football," were first established in England. The Football Association defined these rules in 1863, aiming to unify the various ball games played under different rules into one standardized format.
The term "football" originates from the combination of the English words "foot" and "ball," essentially meaning a game played with a ball using feet. Most non-English names for the sport are derived from this term (except for Italian "calcio").
By the late 19th century, as the British spread the game internationally, football gained global popularity. In the United States and Canada, the game is known as "soccer." This term comes from a shortening of "association football," with "assoc" evolving into "soc," to which "-er" was added. This naming was used to distinguish it from American football, which was already popular in North America.
I don't want to belittle any nation or individual, but the ignorance of Americans, those living in North America, is killing me. You have no knowledge even about your own basic geography. Forget about explaining where Europe or Asia is, you mistake your own states and the capitals of your states for countries. American street interviews show how an entire nation can be misled, haha, I really feel sorry for you. Also, I see in the comments that some say it doesn't matter, use whatever is convenient. The problem here is one of terminology. How this term is used and explained is of serious importance for humanity. If you call the real football "soccer" just to say AMERICAN FOOTBALL, you'll get your answer, got it? First go learn the difference between a state and a country. You've ruined both the use of English and its application. Does it matter if you call an apple a pear?

Well done we didnt lose this to another country
Why yall american called american football a football? Yall rarely kick it but hold it.
American football is adapted from rugby. The term “football” was used as a name/descriptor for any sport that involves playing with the foot in the middle ages. So when American created this new game, adapted from several other games (all with some derivative of the name football) Americans coined the term “Assaociation Football” which is actually a lot closer related to soccer than rugby. In the 1870s, some colleges got together to form their own version that was more based around rugby. Older American football involved a lot more kicking as well as martial action. But since then, rules and guidelines has dwindled the harsher nature of the game, as well as putting a further emphasis on throwing and catching. Ig there was no need to change the name, it was already there.
It happened against Santos futebol clube too
is the mke team still exists?
Yes
14th in the Süper Lig (the top division), drew with Beşiktaş the first time they met, though the second time they will meet is soon (19th of April).

The kingdom of Britain came up with a name, soccer to distinguish rugby football, and soccer football,
During that time period in which England called it soccer America had made their own version of rugby and called football when everybody switched back to calling it football and rugby. America was left with a dilemma so they stayed calling it soccer.
