I’ve been using chlorinated, fluoride-laced tap water for years with no ill effects. My marine toad is the only animal that I take care to let the water sit in a pitcher overnight. I use homemade substrate collected from outside too. It amazes me how many people seem to think their critters live in sterile environments in the wild.
What a massive giant!! He didn´t even need to stretch a lot to get his feet over the top, if he´d have a sudden change of mind and decided to make a run for freedom, better not cross the way of that T-Train. Impressive animal, impressive Dave and Camera Lady gets the award for the most coldblooded filming, not even a little bit cam shaking when the beast jumped out, like I probably mentioned before, bloody impressive.

Every time I see one of these giants, it takes me back to that fateful summer of 1993. Our Botanical Garden was opening and they had an exhibition from the Montreal Insectarium... and amongst their live displays was the fabled Theraphosa blondi. Me being a curious teenager at the time, it was fascination at first sight. I literally spent the ENTIRE summer just gawking at it from every possible angle. Now it could have been a stirmi or an apophysis. It was HUGE ! 16 years later, I buy a G. rosea/porteri from my LPS after having read up on them for 6 months. Even then, nothing would prepare me for how powerful an impact that first spider was going to have on me. Hooked for life as you can imagine. Thanks for the memories, Dave ! :D Best of luck on breeding this most mythical beast. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)

Water in the parts of the US has a lot of chlorine in it, which can kill your reptiles/fish/amphibians. (I'm from the Netherlands originally, where I would agree, but here in the US (Texas), I wouldn't recommend just grabbing untreated tap water)
