Des lynam was the best MOTD presenter in my opinion. the premiership was ok starting at 7pm was not a good idea the intro was brilliant U2. Arsenal were probably the greatest side in the league when the premiership was on itv Thierry Henry was a diffrent class back then. its back where it belongs on BBC 1 now although i did enjoy the axa fa cup on itv.

Notable achievements from the final table Arsenal Invincibles in a league of their own 11 clear of runners up Chelsea, 15 clear of 3rd placed Man United, 30 clear of Liverpool who dispensed with Gerrard Houllier after a disappointing season and 36 clear of Newcastle who went 7 months without a win away from home. Aston Villa's top 6 finish was impressive in David O'Leary's first season at Villa Park considering in November they were in the drop zone powered by the goals of Juan Pablo Angel who became the first Villa player to score 20 goals in a season (all competitions) since Dwight Yorke in 1995/96. Charlton, Bolton who avoided the drop on the last day of the previous season, Fulham in their first full season under Chris Coleman and Birmingham recorded highest ever PL finishes where in 3 of those 4 teams were bettered in future seasons. Of the bottom 3 Wolves and Leicester are in the PL in the current season, Leeds haven't been back since until possibly next season and Pompy were the only newly promoted team to avoid the drop and Everton's points tally of 39 was their lowest ever beating the 40 they got under Howard Kendall in 97/98.

Funny thing is Ally McCoist team is something no England manager ever used and maybe was the only way to get the best out of Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes and if I remember correctly we was really stacked in the centre back department at that period as well.

it’s looks a good idea unfortunately Sven was not willing to move away from the 4-4-2 formation and that’s why England lost 2 quarter finals against Portugal during the 00’s and Southgate did not go to euro 2004

David James was probably the week link and this was when Owen was still a world class striker at that point as he never had them injuries. Funny thing Rooney never turned up at a tournament after his either.

@@user-fh4sl2fz3y after seaman retired we certainly lacked a good solid goalkeeper until joe hart but even he made massive mistakes that’s why he is no longer number 1 goalkeeper but he is still young enough to play for England 😂 that was last tournament I was fully sure we had a good solid chance of winning it and we should have and we have not played better at a major tournament since that 2004 team would beat the 2018 squad easily but unfortunately at the time we paid Sven over the odds of ££ just to get a quarter final of a tournament if we had beaten Portugal we would have played a Holland team who struggled to get out of their group and would have played Greece in the final
