I cook steaks from frozen a lot. I put the vacuum sealed steak in water for just a couple minutes. This will allow the surface to thaw just enough that the seasonings will stick. Then I sear them on high heat in either a hot cast iron pan or on a scream’n hot grill for 2-3 minutes per side. Then I put them in a 350f oven to roast 5-10minutes depending on thickness and desired internal temp. Works really good when i don’t have the time to thaw.
There’s a Tom of different ways to go. I wanted straight from frozen. I could have taken out the night before and put them in the fridge to slowly thaw. Cast iron sears are amazing as well. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Grab Life By Da Poosy First off I love the Name. Lol. I have heard both sides. I was actually Suprised that it was as good as it was. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Cool experiment bro, I think you hit the nail on the head when you recommended a reverse sear would have been the way to go just to stabilize that interior first. Just goes to show you though that no matter what, just get the steak over some coals and you’re gonna probably have a good time even if your steak is frozen to begin with lol 👍
I sometimes thaw frozen steaks by putting them in a bag or vacuum seal bag and placing them in water. I've cooked them frozen before and, other than time, haven't noticed a difference in steaks or other meats. Some people swear by the never frozen though.
Great topic! I spoke to a chef who said he let's meat get to room temperature. He said that cold steak has constricted vessels, so suddenly cooking a cold steak will cause it to be tough. Anyways, I'm use to watching your new vids on the way to work on Saturday mornings. I was waiting today, because I actually had the day off. I figured I could finally participate in the premiere live chat...of course it's the first time you dont put out a vid on Saturday morning, lol!
Josh Benware I’m taking a couple of weeks off. I have a business I’m trying to get established. I’ll be back soon. Sorry HOMIE. Lol. I normally let my steak rest on the counter for about 30-45 minutes before grilling over High Heat. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Hey ! Chris ...nice review on the steaks, frozen or fresh my guess is a thinner piece of frozen steak you definitely can't go wrong oh! and I like a bit of char on my steak so its all good. Have a great weekend you and your family.
So this would definitely work on a thinner steak. Great comparison and Jeff's cook was spot on too just like yours Chris! I love that char as you said about the frozen steak. Both looked delicious! Happy holidays to you and your family bud!!
I liked everything about this video except the frozen steak idea. I like the Barrel House bottom, it makes a good hibachi style grill. I like Royal Oak Lump. I like Armadillo Pepper’s channel. I liked the look of that fresh steak. Good to know a frozen steak can be cooked if needed. It looked edible certainly. However, I preferred the look of the fresh steak it was less black & less rare. Nice experiment though. Thanks for letting us know and conducting the experiment.
Big Lew BBQ yeah Jeff has a great channel. The lighting was a little funky on them steaks but the Frozen one was definitely a bit darker and had a slight chared taste which I actually like. The base for the BHC is fantastic for GRILLIN steak. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
At first I thought... the frozen is not gonna make it... but in the end I had a change of heart... I would have 8 the frozen vs fresh... its that extra juice from the rear med that got me vs the med well done looking "Fresh steak" … awesome comparison cook....oh... and loved the beat 8)
Hey Chris, great job on the steaks! Never thought of putting a frozen steak on a grill! I'm in the hospital right now why don't you mail one of those up here, hospital food sucks lol. In case I don't get it chance to say it later, Merry Christmas to you and your family! I hope you have a great one! And I hope you have a great New Year's too! I hope 2020 brings you nothing but happiness and good health!
Darin Loken Right back at cha. I need all the well wishes I can get. I’m going through some very difficult times right now. I hope you recover soon, if I could send you one of these steaks I would. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
@@meatcranium4280 Sorry to hear that, I'll keep you in my prayers that all of your problems will work out. If there's anything I can do, drop me a line.
I_Said_ OU812 I’m going through some of those trials and tribulations that God promised that we would have. Nothing healthwise though, I’m healthy as an ox. I may share one day, or do a video explaining.
Love the content and your production value is definitely going up! As a subscriber I’d like to issue you a challenge. I’d like to see how you would cook a 5” T-Bone aka Bistecca. Personally, this is one of my favorite meals to make.
Tony Bui it’s the bottom part of my Barrel house cooker, it’s the charcoal basket that’s also used as a hibachi type grill. Thanks for the support and watching
Hamburger patties for sure. I know if you have an overcooked and dry burger that you can revive it by placing on an ice cube. Thanks for the support and watching Brother

Was the steak undercooked when you cut the very center of it? I guess you can deal with cooking a completely frozen steak if you have too, but preparation makes cooking (and most other things in life) so much more enjoyable. Just freezing a steak doesn't seem to hurt the quality much, in my experience. The worst-case scenario is trying to cook partially-frozen meat - you can be reasonably sure that some of it will be less palatable; if not dangerous, to eat. The best plan for frozen meat is to allow it to thaw gradually in the fridge until completely thawed; even if that takes a couple days. Plan ahead, and your meal will seem even better due to anticipation, and you will have an easier and more predictable cook, guaranteed. Have a great week, Chris.
It was not cold in the middle. A nice rare and warm center. This was my first time cooking a frozen steak. It was suprisingly good. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Nrfa since I was making one from frozen approximately 30 degrees colder than the none frozen one, It will require more flips or you risk having a completely charred outside and red inside. Hmmm 🤔, LOGIC!!
Either way would have been good to do, but I Didn’t have it set up for that, only searing this time, maybe next time. Thanks for the support and watching Brother.
Absolutely fantastic video nicely done my friend thank you for sharing
CHUNKY CATS FISHING your welcome thanks for watching.
When you catch a good sale , which is rare nowadays, you have to freeze the meat sometimes.

Some ppl believe freezing meat can tenderize it since the meat expands most likely breaking some of the connective tissues.

Thanks for the mention Chris. Crust was really nice on both steaks and cooked perfectly.
ArmadilloPepper.com If I had not seen you do it, I wouldn’t have thought about it. Thanks to you for the inspiration.
How did the two steaks compare in taste? How would you rate them? Is one better than the other? If so, by how much? Enquiring BBQers want to know!
You need a cool zone, and a lid, where you can bring internal temp up to desired finish after the sear.
Great comparison video brother!
Ive had good luck cooking / reverse searing a frozen steak.
That frozen steak looks great man!

I agree, reverse sear would've been the way to go on the frozen one. They both looked awesome coming off the grill though. Nicely done!

Why would you season a frozen steak?
@@karlkrasnowsky3895 why not?
@meatcranium4280 because it doesn't stick.
Use indirect grilling for the frozen one. Also. If your a great griller, you shouldn't be flipping a steak that many times.
Nrfa since I was making one from frozen approximately 30 degrees colder than the none frozen one, It will require more flips or you risk having a completely charred outside and red inside. Hmmm 🤔, LOGIC!!
Should have cooked it indirectly after the sear

@@meatcranium4280 Thanks I just did mine sear then indirect the Best steak ever, plump & moist no juice on the plate while resting
The formula for frozen add 50% more time.
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Like it man!! now I want a steak and it's all your fault.
Provo Pit Barbecue My plans for taking the world over one steak at a time is working. LOL thanks for watching in the support
Holly crap I'm in on this we freeze everything love the fresh stuff but if you want to feed the whole clan you need to freeze
Gordon Goodkey This was fun to do. Wait till you see what I’m working on today. 😊
You couldn't cook them for the same time but its better to cook them frozen
Another good frozen steak comparison here: ua-cam.com/video/2wgtiEE5Hl8/v-deo.html
