Lyrics:
I love to have a beer with Duncan
I love to have a beer with Dunc
We drink in moderation
And we never ever ever get rollin' drunk
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Duncan
'Cause Duncan's me mate, yeah
I love to have a beer with Colin
I love to have a beer with Col
We drink in moderation
And it doesn't really matter if he brings his doll
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Colin
'Cause Colin's me mate, mm-mm-mm
I love to have a beer with Kevin
Oh I love to have a beer with Kev
We drink in moderation
And he drives me home in his big old Chev
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Kevin
'Cause Kevin's me mate
I love to have a beer with Patrick
I love to have a beer with Pat
We drink in moderation
And it wouldn't really matter if the beer was flat
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Patrick
'Cause Patrick's me mate - Change key
I love to have a beer with Robert
I love to have a beer with Bob
We drink in moderation
Just one more and back on the job
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Robert
'Cause Robert's me mate
I love to have a beer with Duncan
Oh I love to have a beer with Dunc
We drink in moderation
And we never ever ever get rollin' drunk
We drink at the Town and Country
Where the atmosphere is great
I love to have a beer with Duncan
'Cause Duncan's me mate
I love to have a beer with Duncan
'Cause Duncan's me mate
Slim Dusty, AO MBE (born David Gordon Kirkpatrick; 13 June 1927 - 19 September 2003) was an Australian country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer. He was an Australian cultural icon and one of the country's most awarded stars, with a career spanning nearly seven decades and numerous recordings. He was known to record songs in the legacy of Australia, particularly of bush life and renowned Australian bush poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson that represented the lifestyle. The music genre was coined the "bush ballad", a style first made popular by Buddy Williams, the first artist to perform the genre in Australia, and also for his many trucking songs. Dusty was the first Australian to have a No. 1 international hit song, with a version of Gordon Parsons' "A Pub with No Beer". He received an unequalled 37 Golden Guitar and two Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards and was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame and the Country Music Roll of Renown.

Slim is an icon from a better time when life was simpler.

I had the pleasure of having a drink with Slim and he was a genuinely nice guy.
Where was the Town and Country that he mentions in the song ?

I remember as a kid I was embarrassed I liked Slim Dusty & when he died Mum could tell I was upset & let me stay home from school & I watched the funeral from behind our lounge on the TV so Mum wouldn't see me cry 😂❤ love Slim & love my Mum xx
Honeybee Sweet Why the hell would you have been embarrassed for God's sake!🤨🤠🎙️🎸

Naww that's so sad. An Aussie legend. Beers up cause slim is our mate!
good old slim he is the best
Tam don't be embarrassed. I grew up in outback QLD with Slim visiting every year. I loved his shows and I saw him at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. I love his music.
The ultimate Aussie drinking song!
I heard this song when I was stationed in South Korea in 1996. There was a television in the NCO club that sometimes showed Australian country music videos. I still sing it almost every time I drink a beer even though I haven't heard it in 21 years. Thank you Mr. Dusty for a song I'll carry around until the day I die. God rest his soul.
Ya right mate g'day g'day how ya goin

Thank you for your service mate 🇦🇺🍺

I went looking for this song for a reason tonight and I was telling people how I found out about Slim...same thing man, 96 at Kunsan, AB. Slim, Cricket, and the Great American Quiz thing (or whatever it was called) on the armed forces channel instead of commercials - also, $5 carton's of GPC cigarettes and $10 cases of old milwaukee

Cheers I hate how we fight over who’s the better country we both know we are bot the best out of everyone.
Aussie is a shortening of Australian, not Australia. The shorter version of Australia is Straya.
@@Wubblu Aussie can also be used as short for Australia.

My late Father's name was Kevin and he was a huge fan of Slim Dusty. The whole family had so much fun singing this song when it was released and Dad loved it God Bless him. I miss him so much. Slim Dusty is a true Aussie Icon.
Hello

This song never gets old, I love it when he plays Duncan live when he changes it up but sill work. Every time I have a beer I raise the glass up and say God bless you Slim, what a legend cheers Slim dusty
Well I used to live in St Peter's and my local was the Town and Country.
I would have loved to had a beer with Slim, because Slim is me mate! "Cheers."
Nothing like knocking back a Crown in a small town pub with Slim in the background.
A great Slim Dusty track that was a major part of his legacy!
Great song for a great legend. Rest in peace, Slim
Every time I hear this song I think of my dad.. his name is Kevin and it's one of his all time favourite songs.
Rest in Peace Slim Dusty. Best music ever created.
RIP The Town and Country Hotel, 19th of July 2023. A sad day.
its a shame the old town and country has shut down i would of loved to have a cold one there. i will always be a fan of slims and never let his music die
First time hearing this song. Cheers 🍻 everyone 👍
Slim Dusty was always being played in the house, growing up.. when Duncan was playing, My Grandfather, after a few beers would shout at the end, "I Love To Have A Beer With Duncan, CAUSE DUNCAN'S MY ROOT!!" 😆😆
The ultimate Aussie drinking song.
Kev is /was my father in law, Robert is my brother in law ,such a great heartfelt song that stirs up a lot of emotions.Cheers to all.
Did they both live near the pub was there today
This brought back my childhood. My grandpa used to play a whole lot of songs while we were in his car, but this one was by far my favourite.
Hello Elizabeth, how are you doing
@@larrywoodall8537 I’m okay, thank you.
@@elizabethmorton3616 I'm glad to hear from you Elizabeth and how is your day going
I'm in my mid 20s and I've loved this song ever since I first heard it on some radio station playing old songs.
I played this song at my dad's funeral, when the song started quite a few people said YEAH! The song described my dad perfectly.george Balfour stark 16/03/33-23/11/2007.still miss ya old mate!
Slim likes his beers and friends. A wholesome guy....love him 😋
From an instrumental point of view, I have always had an appreciation for the way of which Slim decided to 'Change Key' on his guitar just to add another simple but very professional element to the song itself. He makes it all sound so effortless as I'm sure you will agree!
*I am a Polish-Canadian .... and I love this Australian song, since I first heard it from the movie "On the beach" (1959) starring with: Ava Gardner, Gregory Peck & Fred Astaire.*
~ It is kinda climate of peace and harmony in this nice and natural melody of this song ~
*Go Aussies, go !!!!* :o))
Hearing my name Robert and the soothing country song is just great
My Brother and I are 3 years apart, and grew up listening to this on our CD player while we fell asleep. We had always thought that our Dad knew Slim, and told him to put our names in the song; because our names aren’t super common going by the amount of people that I have met. My name is Robert, and my brothers name is Colin 😁. This song is still one of my favourites!

@@jessesands4099 There was an adaptation made that was I like to dance with Dorthy.
I’d love to have a dance with Dorothy I’d love to have a dance with Dorothy. We dance in moderation. Yeah I don’t know what they were thinking
That's what I thought too! I'm an Irish folk singer and we have many drinking songs but I don't think any of them are as mild mannered as this one! Google "The Waxies' Dargle", if you can understand the Dublin twang.
@Nick Valerio not quite from The Wiggles. This song was written in 1980. But The Wiggles did do an adorable cover with Slim called “I’d like to have a dance”
I love this song so much. Mum and Dad had, ( I still have the 45). They got it when it came out. Dad was named Robert, but called Bob and 2 of Mum's brothers were Pat and Kevin, who I was close to. Great memories of playing this during family gatherings. Always a laugh. Times to remember. Would go back in a heart beat.
Wonderful Song One Of Slim's Very very best the old bloke Kevin at 1.03 looks exactly like a Kevin I used to Drink with in the late 1990s and Early 2000s! Also used to drink with a bloke called Bob too in A Pub In Port Melbourne! Love That Line "Just One More Then Back On The Job"!😀🤠🎙️🎸🎶🎵🎼🍺🍻🏚️🇦🇺
Wish to hear from you old golden boy but. ❤❤❤
My dad loved this song and still does at 80. Memories. xx

There's no better feeling than when your name comes up when you're singing this song with your mates.
Coz Dunkenz mi mate! Cheers from Germany!🍺🤙
Slim Dusty has great songs
I first came across this song after realizing his appearance on the wiggles was not, in fact, an original song about wanting to dance with wags. I feel both robbed and rewarded
I was thinking about the Wiggles version the other day and I was like surely it's not I like to have a beer with WAGs the dog haha. Should of been that instead
RIP slim 16 years today we lost a legend rip old slim
it is the 10th anniversary of my uncles death today, he used to play this song to us constantly, i love and miss him dearly and while i am sad yes, this song will always be treasured dearly in my heart as now i am an uncle myself and i will always refer back here to remember to be an amazing uncle just like my uncle was
Sorry for your loss god bless your uncle's soul
So when I was 14 I found out this was the man my Dad used to play guitar for (he also played it for Slim’s daughter Anne) and at the same time I found out he was in this song... I cry every time I hear his bit as he left this world 30 years ago. RIP KEVIN McLAREN
Zombie Toothless Bulldog, Ret. No he’s not but I wish he was because he’s no longer with us 😔
Encouraging drink driving, a true Aussie pastime! I never drove home from our local sober! This represents the Real Australia, something that has been seriously derided, nearly destroyed, but a small flame keeps it alive, well beyond the multi-cultural capitals!
Slim Dusty a true Aussie legend.
This song is my fav slim dusty will be remembered
❤For my friend Dun and for you Mandy,Happy Birthday ❤
A local wrote this song about having beers with mates at The Town & Country pub in St Peters, a suburb of Sydney. He mailed it to the PO Box listed on a Slim Dusty album. Slim didn't like it but his wife insisted he recorded it.. and the rest was history :)
