Ringo's Delightful Aunt Jessie Story

- Ringo Starr tells an anecdote about the late Jessie Robbins, who played his auntie in the 1967 'Magical Mystery Tour' TV film.
This anecdote featured in the original 1993 rough-cut of The Beatles Anthology but - perhaps unsurprisingly - was strategically snipped before the series went to air... - Комедії
"SINCE UNCLE JACK DIED YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THE SAME!"
Of course I ain't been the same, I ain't got Uncle Jack have I?
"should I knit for you?"
...No, don't knit for me.
@@evesapple 😂😂😂
@@evesapple LOL I love those bits of improv in the film
In the seventies, Jessie was a family friend and we'd often watch her take the stage in a local talent pub playing the drums and belting out some red hot mama song like St Louis Blues. She lived in Leytonstone, next door to the young pianist, Bobby Crush. Jessie did have a serious problem with hygiene but it'd be a shame if she were remembered only for that. She had a heart of gold and a huge personality to match.
Great story. I always wondered about her. I only ever knew her from this film- mad she lived in Leytonstone lol
Dave do you have an email address? I am Jessie Robbins Grandson.
THANK YOU!! It was downright RUDE to say she "stinks" like that. Of course they get a free pass for anything they say and do. But if anyone else made a comment like that, they would be hung out to dry. I have no doubt that she was a grand person. It's great that you got to know her a bit.
@@jamesparker5921What was it like having her as a grandmother?
Wow, that is NOT on the VHS/DVD version of Anthology. They must have edited it out.
This is from The Anthology rough cut. Well worth looking out for a copy if you're a fan. Sometimes they appear on Ebay. Pricey though as they are very rare
Ringo can make anyone laugh. If he wasn't famous at all he would be a fun guy to hang around with
Not sure what's "delightful" about saying that she "stinks". She played her part to the hilt in that film. She was magnificent.
LOL
