- Echo Base Live is a collectors event focused purely on Star Wars with a heavy mix of vintage.
This was my 3rd visit and this one was packed with vintage goodness. Overwhelming at times.
It's also a great place to meet fellow collectors and friends.

Hi, I'm VTR Dave. A Brit on a mission to curate a high-quality and diverse collection of vintage toys, known as the VT aRchive.
A homage to the iconic toys of the 70s & 80s to be shared with as many enthusiasts as possible, right here on this channel. And who knows, perhaps in the future, on display in a public space like a museum. Now, wouldn't that be something!

It's a good day out Dave. As it's in a shopping centre you have the die hard star wars fan as well as casual visitors out shopping 😎 Yeah, the Star Wars tax is evident, but the event is free to enter and photos/autographs are very reasonably priced compared to comic cons.

Awesome tour of the show, Dave! That new Star Wars Collection book looks gigantic. Very nice. Nice Palitoy book also. Lots of expensive older items at the show too. Nice MASK, DinoRiders and Star Wars collectibles obtained. Thanks!
Thanks!! 👍 Yeah, the Star Wars book is chunky, and that's only volume 1 - the next volume will cover vehicles 😎 This was my 3rd Echo and it was certainly the most packed with goodies - would loved to have brought home some of the vintage goodness, but still pleased with the pickups 👍

I had a LOT of this stuff as a kid. Funny but I just realized for the first time in 40 years, the playsets with the cardboard backdrops are exactly like the matte paintings used to film the movies.
Having never had any the cardboard play sets, I did not realise this myself. Will have to do some research! And today, you have custom providers like Paleetoy continuing the original vintage line 👍
Incredible the amount of "ancillary" items (cases, books etc.) that have sprung up around the actual collectibles themselves.....
Yes, even more so now, with kickstarters etc

I have the vintage R2 with the plans in its back but I've never seen/heard of the talking one. It looks exactly the same!

Yeah Shabby, I saw the one with the plans as well but went for the talking one cause I have a thing for fixing record players in toys LOL and it was cheap 😎 It wasn't until I researched at home I realised it was the Palitoy version!! A good day, met several of our fellow collectors. Don't think Luke even knows yet 🤣
Loved the tour, thanks Dave for uploading! The Kenner/Palitoy figures always have a soft spot for me given my age (40s) and it's amazing to see the price of some of them, even loose I saw prices in the hundreds and for boxed thousands! Crazy to think all those toys I played with as a kid lying around down the side of the sofa could fetch these insane prices! If only I had kept a few 😢

Luke, you would have loved this one. Just to walk around and see all the vintage items - pretty much everything related to the vintage line was there. Prices can be crazy though. Met lots of people too, and Bob was incredible. I didn't expect him to provide a guided walkthrough of his book, I had cheekily asked to video a couple of the pages!! He's so proud of Palitoy. Message received 👍

Great pickups, VTR. I am looking forward to seeing your Y-Wing restoration. Some of those prices were rather high, but there were some fantastic items there, and there was quite a lot to look at. It was great that Bob Breachin gave you a look through the early draft of his book.....that was awesome.

I asked Bob if I could be cheeky and take a quick video of a couple of the pages of the book - next thing I know, he's providing a full guide. Couldn't believe it!!! Just need a few more items for the Y Wing and then I can start!! Looking forward it 👍

Nice purchases mate! Was lovely getting to see everything! But by christ! The prices were awful at this event. I came away with a couple of £100 items despite having turned up with 3k I'd saved, all of which I was eager to spend. Spent the rest on Ebay that night when I got back to my hotel. Used to be the prices were good at these events. Not now. Most of what I bought on Ebay was near half the price or less - than the eye watering prices I'd seen at this. I thought the echo people were all about keeping pricing down to fair & decent levels too..Seems thes events are now sadly to big, with pricing to match.
I have to admit, I have a hard time with vintage Star Wars pricing these days. It seems all over the place. There were definitely highly priced items but also some decent prices too. Not sure Echo really have much say on the prices - I do think some items are priced not to sell 😎 It's still a great event for meeting fellow collectors though and good day out. At least you found some items 👍
When I was on fb I used to be in their group as a buyer to finish my collection. When I was buying, there was a rule of no scalping and passing on savings to the members.
It seems ridiculously overpriced compared to the toy fairs I go to. I stopped buying SW stuff around 2019 as prices went over the top.
My last purchases were black R2 units to go into my droid collection, they cost £20 but were the finale to my my SW collecting.
I honestly believe a lot of it was priced not to sell! Even so, vintage Star Wars is damn expensive these days, but some did say they felt the prices are starting to ease 👍
You should start using Madine as your mascot. Release the Madine! 😂
LOL! I think I once said Madine was the worst figure in the original line. Maybe he won't be promoted to mascot but he could appear along side the Kraken 🤘

I still have my 1978 15" Darth Vader but mine has a vest type collared cape which to this day I haven't seen another one like it..has anybody heard of or seen this style cape?
I only know of the cloth cape but don't remember it having a collar. Maybe worth asking a vintage Star Wars FB group 👍

All the music is licensed. The running order is The Force by Giuseppe Vasapolli, Burning Up by Pereveslo, Gospel Heaven by LEXMusic, Coming To You by Trigubovich, Metaverse by Rockot and Evolution by colortunes. I try to find music appropriate for each video, it's a part of the editing process I quite like 👍

Hey Jeff - possibly, I've never looked at one to be honest. I assume it has a circuit board in there (being 90s?) which could be broken. Or it could just be a simpler wiring issue. All depends :)

how much does a carded vintage kenner star wars cost
it really depends on condition, demand and rarity of the card /figure - so you can pay from, say £50 all the way up to 10s of thousands of pounds. I'd say the majority of them are in £100 - £400 mark 👍
How much is it to get in to echo live? Are there decent loose items at echo?
After 10am, it's free. The event is held in a shopping centre!! so only have to pay for parking - for me, that was £3 for most of the day. There's an early bird you can pay for which I think gives you 45 mins before everyone else. You can find loose there in all conditions 👍
