can i just say how much i love these videos every year? Truly really cool the amount of effort you all put into getting all of these impressions out to everyone that cant make it to the event, getting the b roll while discussing each game and everything, chefs kiss. Btw easy alies great video but for metaphor u said u didn't check if u can change archetype during combat they actually already confirmed it in atlus showcase 2 that u can't change archetype mid battle, which makes sense in my opinion cuz archetype u can't summon them, u become them and also they are job system.

Ooh, a little Etrian Odyssey callout in the Metaphor B-Roll. Very nice, very exciting.
Now I'd maybe hesitate to call an item named Ariadne's Thread a EO reference while a Minotaur is also in the scene BUT considering Atlus not only published those games but Metaphor made it's "In game" debut way back when in an Etrian Odyssey game it seems pretty likely. (They had special character portraits of the concept art characters back in 2018 you could use as your party avatars in EONexus. It was small but pretty cool)
I wonder if it's the same item? Ariadne's Thread is EO's version of a Homeward Bone/Town Portal/Escape Rope/etc. Leave the dungeon and go somewhere safe.
I don't know much about Etrian Odyssey but Metaphor does have pre-order bonus costumes of job classes from it, and in addition to Soejima-san they also had a designer from EO working on the Archetype designs ! I wouldn't be surprised if there were references in there ^^
@@corruptedteka Oh that's kinda cute. Its so weird seeing like 6 Persona costume sets in a row then one EO set but I get it.
Cool to see EO get any love at all honestly, not when its being placed directly next to the big guns of Persona at least.

Replaced is one of the few we didn't get to. I didn't get an email before the show, tried to setup an appointment for today, but then they ended up having to leave early. -Bloodworth

55:29 is where Huber talks about enemies not reviving after dying in phantom blade zero and I honestly don't know what to say about this being something I'm seeing in recent games. No rest for the Wicked and Prodeus are 2 games that both do the same thing and it just completely undercuts the entire challenge of the game. The enemies have no real meaning if you can just take a couple out, die, take a couple out, die again and just scythe a way to the boss. Why has the soulslike structure coloured people's view on combat challenges in games so much that we can't see how much of an issue this is? Forget the bonfires and the Estus stuff for a second and just imagine any traditional action game with standard checkpoints like Devil may cry, or an FPS like Doom eternal or something. It drops a checkpoint, then you have to win the encounter you are on to get to the next checkpoint, if you die you have to restart from the checkpoint and do the encounter again. In the case of phantom blade, you are attempting the encounter, failing it and then not getting another attempt at the same encounter again, because you've wittled that encounter down by a certain number of enemies before dying. If this occured in a non soulslike game it wouldn't be considered "friendly" or "accessible" it would be considered stupid... This system would risk ruining the entire game and I can't imagine putting all that effort into combat and encounter design just to undercut it with such a flawed system like this. And as far as accessibility goes I think an easy mode that makes you engage with the mechanics properly still is a far better solution for any action game, soulslike or not, for getting people who aren't as experienced with action games to be able to play them. Sure this system makes it easier, but would someone who is bad even be having fun wittling away at encounters like this? As opposed to just experiencing the same game as other more skilled players, but with damage taken and maybe even attack speed altered to give them the right level of challenge for their skill. I can only hope this was for the demo only, but like I said I've seen this in action games recently and it's awful design that needs to go away because it's ruining otherwise really interesting games

This is a legit concern, but we'll see how the game turns out. The developers said they're not looking to recreate any soul's like experience, but a low pressure fast pace combat experience, so I guess they don't want players to do repetitive stuff after revived. They did mention that the enemy will respawn with a bonfire system, but they haven't released any level design details. Hope they find a way to get around this enemy revival issue.
It is weird to not have a canon name for your protagonist. I hate when games do that.

Bro doesn't know they can hover your mouse/hold their finger over the timeline of the video, which shows a thumbnail of what's happening at that point in the video, and then they can use their oh so precious seconds to get to where the Allies start talking about a specific topic.
