Here join host Dee Vyper and Troy McClure, one of the master fabricators at www.madmaxcars.com and see the Australian 1975 Falcon XB Coupe, that was truly saved from the crusher. Not many people would take on a 40+ year old car that was butchered and rusted this badly, but thats what this show is all about..... Taking the worst case scenario and turning it into a show stopping beauty. Welcome to... No Falcon Left Behind's Second Season!

"driver side very rotten" as you show the LEFT (passenger) side of the cowl.
OOPS! LOL
Oops! Falcon Faux Pas.......
What an amazing project start, love that you all are saving this old iron! Man so much of that metal is chewy, nice save from the scrapper!
Thank you so much!!
Much as I wish they could stay in Oz, I'm very appreciative that you go to all this trouble of keeping them on the road. No matter where a vehicle is, it's better to have it running than rusting away to scrap. Cheers, mate. :-)
We 1000% agree. Many of our builds do go back home to Oz, so who knows. Certainly better to do this than have seen it scrapped into a new Toyota or tin cans....
How much American muscle is over in Australia right now? I’ve seen very rare cars in Australia from the US.
@@SladeM. Yeah, there's a few in Oz. But Ford Australia never made all that many cars compared to the numbers US factories churn out, since there's just not that many people in Oz to buy them. They only made about 210,000 XB Falcons in total, the vast majority of those being sedans, utes, wagons and panel vans. The coupes never really sold all that well, as they lack a certain practicality that Aussies of the time required. But all that aside, I'm just happy they're fixed up and on the road somewhere. That's still better than being scrapped and starting a new life as a fridge.
@@SladeM. Thats the interesting thing. There was maybe 200 total XA,XB,XC Falcons in the USA at the peak, (including Sedans, Utes, Wagons, Panelvans, and Coupes), but many go back across the pond these days so the number is a lot lower now. Meanwhile I am aware of literally 100s of Mustangs, Corvettes, GTOs, Chargers, Challengers, Cudas, Trans Ams, etc that go across the pond that direction each year. No idea what the total numbers are but many many times the imported Aussie Muscle in the USA. Whatever side of the pond you are on, its hard to see rare cars go overseas. Here in the USA they go all over the world, as is also true with Australia.
That's not an XB, that's a XC. Only in the XC model were the side rear reflectors horizontal. In the XA and XB they were vertical.
They did not make XCs in 1975. They did however start using the horizontal marker light stamped quarters during the XB run. We have encountered several cars like this already. It is definitely an XB.
Well dee, looks like you got a project!! Glad you guys do that work and save those cars!!
We do have our work cut out for us! I will tell Dee you said "hi". Its our pleasure to save these, regardless of how far gone they are.....
I'm interested to know do you purchase parts from Australia, where I am, or from South Africa, where the Falcon was also sold?
So far all the best vendors we know of for XB Falcon specific stuff are in Australia. If we are missing an amazing South Africa vendor we need to know!
I know that a few people here have sourced whole cars from South Africa, due to the cars being imported there in the mid 70's, and due to the prices here.
I'm not 100% sure the tooling that we gave South Africa are exact, i read that the tooling that press's the panel's are very worn over years or pressing sheet metal and arn't an exact fit to the Australian built Fords? I do know Falcon restorers here, won't buy South African spares. That also includes Chrysler and General Motors Holden. ?? Just what i heard. Don't quote me on that.
@@demolitionman9307 Very interesting. Had no idea that the tooling was shipped to South Africa. I would have thought that spares would be sent after manufacturing at Greelong.
@@MadMaxCars maybe look into getting parts and panels from South Africa? Or even full Falcon coups. Just an idea? Be worth the research if you can get it on the cheap? Good Luck. 8)
Great to see another one of the worlds most iconic car getting saved from the rust gods. As an Aussie it's sad to see one of our Falcons in the U.S and not on our roads but I do appreciate you guys for restoring them and not leaving them to fade away.. I can tell you love these cars ALMOST as much as us Aussies. Good to see another vid. Hope to see many more this year. Hail the LLLLLLast of th th the V8"s
Thank you so much for the kind words! We truly love these beautiful cars you guys built, and love to save them. We will try to keep the videos coming more regularly this year! If it helps any quite a few of our builds have gone back home in recent years. So who knows. This one may also one day.
You guys should head on over to XAcoupeguy on youtube he restores these things for a living!
@@randywatson6114 Love his channel. Subbed already! We do restore these things for a living as well... ;-)
@@randywatson6114 thanks man.
@@MadMaxCars I meant to tell you, check out PHATRIDES garage on you tube, he's building an xb coupe with a 2016 Mustang floor pan and all its running gear. I think it is destined to be the best xb coupe on the planet!!! I call it the Faltang....
Didnt Barry the mechanic in Mad Max say it was a pursuit special? Love this stuff, wish I could own one.. Wishes are just vapor.
Barry says "Last of the V8's". Its the Radio Dispatcher that calls it (and the Nightrider's stolen Monaro) "Pursuit Special". In subsequent movies they simplify to "Interceptor" so we try to use both to make all the fans happy.
@@MadMaxCars Your work is amazing.
@@DVincentW Thank you so much!!
Have you guys ever played or seen the mad max video game that came out a few years back? This kinda looks like the car you start with when you first start playing the game.
We have! Fun game. I do see the resemblance!
Looks like a fun and complex project, really looking forward to seeing what you guys can do with it
Us too! Thanks for watching and for your comment!!
I have seen Swiss cheese with less holes
You got your work cut out for you but it's great to see the old girl getting a make over
Yeah its not the easiest build, but that's why we leave no Falcon behind to rot away! Thanks for watching and for the awesome comment!
Ya definitely got plenty of fabrication work ahead of you. I'm all for the Road Warrior Interceptor, duel fuel tanks,, you got the perfect car for that replica, and Love seeing our Falcons being saved. I'm curious to know, are any of the U.S Falcon/Mustang etc.. Rust section replacements like floor pans, engine bay pieces the same as the Australian built Fords? Wish you all the best for 2022.
It will be quite a project, but not too far out from what we do normally on a "section by section" basis, just WAY more rusty section than usual. Sadly no USA changeover for body panels. Lots of chassis and Drivetrain stuff does though. We order LOTS of parts from Australia for everything else.
@@MadMaxCars i thought early falcon floor pans might be the same 60's on? If you ever happen to stumble across a genuine XA, XB, or more valuable XT, XW or XY GT. (especially a XW or XY GT) You're looking at a high end prices, Genuine Phase 3 GTHO a million dollars plus, XB GT coupe's are right up there.
@@demolitionman9307 I believe the body stampings up to the XA series were based on USA bodies. Early ones were probably even CKD cars shipped overseas for assembly. Unfortunately once the unique Australian Fords started getting made, they did not share any panels exactly. It may be possible to use some parts, but if so its not clear what would fit if anything.
@@MadMaxCars cheers, yuh wasn't sure? Thx
@@demolitionman9307 No worries! Cheers!
labour costs over there makes it worthwhile . even importing parts from australia to the us is
way cheaper than the other way around .
I can imagine!
Here in new zealand we also got falcons we call rust factory fitted weight reduction👌😅im currently getting the original motor for my 94 ed falcon xr6 rebuilt as it was tired any falcon nowdays will go up price good work fellas👌
Not as rusty as Valiants, not too many left these days, we demolition derby'd them all. Lol
@@demolitionman9307 four letters...xf au👌🤣those 2 models of falcon the worst for it lol but na i do remember as a kid the yank tanks chargers and falcons toranas etc around the dirt 😅🤣
@@antzman88 Yeah, pretty typical. 70s rust prevention was none.... Thank you for the kind words!
I didn't have the heart to like it as it's currently at 69
Cool. Someone else sent it over. Glad you like the vids though! You channel is AMAZING! Keep up the good work on your cars!
A long time between drinks guys!
Yeah, it has been about 3 months since our last video post. We tend to work so much in the shop it takes a while to get videos edited and out. Will have to try a bit harder!
@@MadMaxCars I understand, but it would be very much appreciated from us fans to see videos more often from you guys! Always looking forward to the next upload.
@@steveskrobot9496 That is very cool. So glad to hear that you all are enjoying the content! We will see what we can do to get things posted more often. That might mean doing some shorter form videos, or even official "UA-cam shorts". Who knows. We will do our best to try and accommodate.
As the Falcons get harder to come by have you guys looked at alternative like 72-73 Gran Torinos? They are pretty similar, just curious.
We actually find the Falcons are not difficult to come by as we have been finding them for clients since the late 1990s. They are definitely getting quite a bit more expensive however, just like any classic car in todays world. As for alternatives, while many find that the 1970-71 Torino sports roof has a similar "silhouette", the 72+ Gran Torinos bear little resemblance in the opinion of most. Though we would gladly build a Mad Max "Tribute" based on a different car if the client wanted it, it is a bit like building a General Lee out of a Coronet instead of a Charger. You can paint it orange and put the "01" on the doors, but it is not really screen accurate "replica". Ultimately we are glad to build whatever will make the client happy.
Cudos to you for saving a Classic! ...and an expensive one at that!
Thank you! We do our best. Saving these classics is important work!
Favorite line: Yup that has gone to lace!
Yeah, it sure did too.....
Instead of PPG Dp90 . You should use vp2050 from PPG . It’s DP90 on steroids
Thank you for the recommendation. I will pass that onto our paint guys. I know we have literally decades of proven restyles with DP-90 working with all of our other relied upon products. It will be interesting to see what they say.
out of curiosity, how would I be able to get my hands on one of these legends. ( Be it purchasing from you, or from some Aussie manufacturer? )
Super simple! Just contact the team at www.madmaxcars.com for details and to get a build started. You can also find the donor cars, and sometimes finished or partially finished Interceptor projects on the classified ads there. By FAR the best place in North America to find what you are looking for, and quite a few Australians come to us as well. They can even help you find and import a car from Australia if you like. Give us a ring and we will be glad to help!
What are u doing with the 71 mustang
That now belongs to one of our staff. It was a parts car that he saved and is turning into a Wasteland rig called the "Dustang".
Horizontal rear side indicators indicate that this vehicle was an XC.
Unless they've been modified
While it is true that Ford Australia changed over to the horizontal marker lights for the XC, they actually ran out of the XB quarter panel stamping before the model run was finished and so late XBs often have the quarter panel stamping with the horizontal marker light. Here is one of MANY sites that document fun running changes like this linked below. So Yes it has the horizontal side indicators, but it also absolutely IS an XB. www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/model_changes_-_dashes.html
@@MadMaxCars . Thanks for the link
@@NewstartGarageOZ No worries. Lots of cool information on that site.
You may have already answered this. Are you able to get the inner structural sheet metal from Australia as well? How long does it take to get the Repair panels from overseas?
Each panel is a case by case basis. In short very few "inner structure" type panels are available, so we patch and hand fabricate as needed. Time to get panels is likewise variable from item to item. For most cars we build and this one in particular, we will have to go to about 4-6 different vendors to get everything as many panels are only made by small run boutique manufacturers, some are f rom the main restoration supply places, and some even from wrecking yards as needed. Shipping time also varies a lot for various reasons especially right now.
Thank you so much for saving this car.
Our pleasure! If you get the chance check out the car from Season one. Not sure if it was worse or not. You let me know what you think when you have time to see it.
Bloody ripper mate the passion that you have these vehicles is insane. 👌🏼A good start to the New Year
Thank you! We sure hope the new year sees this car in far better shape and on its way to completion!!
What is it with these falcons did they dip them in the sea before paint
Might as well have. Like with ANY classic muscle car of the time, they did absolutely ZERO to prevent rust. All these classics we restore were intended to maybe last 10 - 15 years or so, and here we are 50+ years alter on some giving them a new life better than from the factory.
there was strike and lots sat outside so this may not have help.
Seriously though, I thought my trucks were absolute rustbuckets but Falcon are on a whole different level. The second these cars touch water they get stage 4 rust cancer
Old cars do alright in dry parts of America nice to see these falcons being rescued
This is amazing.
Thank you!!
Perhaps it was the result of anxieties
Looks like it was chewed up and spat out?
Excited to see this project come along , Keep us posted thumbs up....
That's the plan! Thank you for watching and for the nice comment!
I Love mad Max... kiss brazil
We love Mad Max as well, I am sure you can tell. Also on June 18th, 1983, KISS performed before 137,000 fans at Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janerio. The little bit of history I know about KISS in Brazil. Thank you so much for watching, and for your comment!
Be sure to check out my channel as I deal with these coupes alot and yes the package trays are available reproduction all of I in the 3 parts
You channel is awesome mate! We have already subbed. Love watching your builds. I know the rear part and upright as well as the panel behind the rear window are available, but have yet to find a vendor that makes the main front section. Getting one from a sedan has been our go to. If there is someone who makes that front package tray panel we would love to know who.
@@MadMaxCars unfortunately no one i know makes the speaker grill section yet cos like you said theyre just cut from sedans. be sure to look up a mob called "better than NOS" they have an ebay store and they make alot of xa-xc parts and they are very good
@@xacoupeguy They are awesome! We use their parts regularly, but never needed their Ebay store. Their stuff is certainly "Better than NOS" in reality!
Just a smidgen of rust
LOL, yeah just a bit.
I hope they checked the ID , the paint old scheme looks a little John Goss-ish
Yeah, definitely NOT a JGS. Good call though. Important to check.
