Didn't know planet audio was that old!
Oh yeah they were big on the car audio scene around 2000,2001. Local shops in South Texas were pushing the subs hard.
Thanks big D im really looking forward to your upload.
thanks man that helped on my questions about the hifonics amp. I love it
That planet audio interior looks alot like the sound stream Rubicon RUB 1.2500d!
Planet audio been beatin people out they 💰's
Everyone expects all the old school amps to be overrated, not always gonna' happen brosefs.
I want that red PG
Ha. I learned something new today. :-)
came up way short...without your channel the stereo world would still be guessing.
I am guessing it needs new caps after all these years.
Hey Big Dwiz there is something that I noticed in this video the planet audio and has missing parts like it wasn't installed for example look where the mosfets are there blank spots for some chips and resistors, also some pnp's and npn's are missing as well meaning that this amplifier can make more power if they were to get installed lol
+cubanman2009 I'm sure this circuit board was used for other amp models as well, some probably had those extra components.
Aww the good ol days of underrated amps at a dollar a watt
Except, this one didn't deliver what it advertised.
Dereck has busted a lot of myths and legends about what old school cheater amps could and couldn't do.
Cool vid. I have a Visonik V800HC and I wonder if it does rated
I wonder how the newer planet audio amps do? I would love to see the ac1500.1m get dyno'd
I have a planet audio ac 1000.2 it says bridged at 4 ohm the rms is 700 watts just wanted to know how true that is I'm useing it on a skar 10 inch vd 10 500 rms 800 total is this the right amp I don't have a lot of money to spend please help thanks in advance.
I'll see if can get my hands on a planet audio bb2400.1 so you can test
I got one and it's legit. Running two Kenwood Excelon KFC-XW1000F. These are their shallow cone subs and I have them down firing under the back seat of a Toyota Tundra. Someone in the know told me that the BB2400.1 and BB1200.4 share the same respective amp boards with the ARC Audio 1st gen XDi amps. BB2400.1 is similar to Arc Audio XDi 1000.1. The B1200.4 is supposedly the same as the Arc Audio XDi 804. Where Planet Audio saves money is by using lower quality transformers, capacitors, and transistors.
oh its a cheater amp.. cheated you out of your money and didnt do rated
you should test a Zuki audio amp no one has tested one of those they're rated at 5wx4
can you test a Boss PV3700 amplifier it is a 5 channel amp ...just curious
At a half ohm load every connection and bit of speaker wire represent a significant portion of the total impedance the amp sees. 500watts @1/2 ohm equals over 30amps which is a lot for those not so massive speaker connections and wires. I'm willing to bet the amp is driving closer to 1ohm than 0,5ohm total load in this test. The moral of this is that driving impedances close to a dead short is not very smart and should be avoided. Otherwise you are putting lots of power to waste.
Yep, you hit the nail on the head. I just don't get why people want to run such low impedance.Damping factor and headroom will both go down when an amp is run at lower than it's optimal impedance. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Yeah I'd be disappointed if I spent 900 bux for under 400 watts lol
I would've expected much more especially with how much that behemoth use to to cost back in the day. I know it failed on you while testing. Maybe that was the reason you weren't getting all the power. Nonetheless, great video and nice American made amp!
This upset me a lot, I've been a long time ZED audio "follower". I feel like I just found out Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and the tooth fairy is not real all in the same day. I wonder if Steven Mantz himself would be able to chime in?
MrDanielknew
Not sure how much say Stephen had in what these companies claimed for ratings on the amps he built for them. Case in point, the original Boss amps which he made. Great little amps, just rated at about 3X what they actually make.
The only really chase Zed made Planet Audio piece was the tube one anyway.
Great informative video.have you ever done one on Rockford fosgate mosfet 300?or do you have any knowledgeable input on the subject I'd appreciate it? Thanks.
I've tested the Power 300 MOSFET several years ago and it did nicely over rated power. I'll test it again on the Amp dyno
Ouch! Well, i will say the blue pcb looks cool anyway. Lol
Cant wait to see what team red has to offer, my money was on red.
I have this in my brother's shed but its white is it the same or different ????
It's the same. The Zed built Planet Audio amps came in gray and in white. I have a few of each, but the HVT (tube) models.
Have you ever tested a Kenwood KAC 818 in the past? Would like to know how under rated they were. I believe they were rated 200 @ 4ohms and 400 @ 2 ohms but have heard something to the effect of over 600 @ 2 ohm.
Hey big Dwizi noticed something in the video that amp is missing driver chips that where never installed maybe that might be the reason why its shy on power??
They used the same board for different amp models, so some appear to be missing parts, but they are really not
Still waiting for the 50C on the AD-1. Ima bug you once every 6 months until you do it. DO IT!!!!!! J/k man. I have a pair of Konami Ko 1207A/audio q hdc3/PSI Hybrids. the 50c would seriously still under power them but they'll play clean. Second, any recommendations someone that can test and update parts for Lazar? Lanzar Pro phone ethics sucks (rude) so I never made it to my second question.
Turn the amp gain all the way up and turn the bass boost all the way up that amp has a total harmonic Distortion of 0.001 crank it
Alright I thought I could figure this one out by myself but .. yeah .. what exactly is a "cheater" amp ???
Darieee Crazy low wattage at 4 0hms but able to handle crazy low impedance like the .25 ohm load on this one producing way more power. You could enter at competition based on wattage at 4 ohm and spank everyone by running at .25 ohms
My friends and I want to request if u can test a Audiobahn 2300hct high current amp its old school, we would appreciate it.
Suazzz I don't currently have one of those to test, but when I come across one, I'll test it
I came across an Orion XTR 2250 The Beast on craigslist in my area. Person wanted $500! hmm...
I done scored a o's USA amps cheater
does line outs Carry over the same amount on volts going in??
I expected about 500w. Not really a top brand anyway.
I think his power supplies r not big enuff for the current it draws at those loads. It starving for power
Sorry, not the case. I can provide a clean 320A at 14V. This amp was only pulling 115A (or less) at 1/2 ohm mono. I'll verify with my test results
Dereck BigDWiz
I think he meant the supply side of the board..? Looks like its a few components short of being fully populated so maybe. Anyways, should have tossed in a couple 1khz tests too.
Not so much bang for the buck!
Geerladenlad I think the majority of the cost of this amp was the aluminum. The heat sink is massive, stated to be 7kg or approx. 15lbs, but on the scale it topped 20lbs. About the size of today's class D "true" 5kW amps
Dereck BigDWiz A very inefficient design with to high a price tag. Unless the goal is to pay for heavy aluminum amp decorations that supply underrated power.
Wow! I was expecting a little overrated. It's got to be something wrong with the amp. It is 14 yrs old.
1trucavalier I've tested amps that are 30yrs old and have done over rated. Only way to know for sure is to test another one
Planet audio has always been not very good since day one...
Hello,Can i have one of your amp?Because i am your biggest fan ever :-) :-) if you only like to give me :-)
Good thing I never bought planet audio anything.
I never commented on this video 😂😂 I was so distraught! I’m righting that wrong today.
