O autarca sublinhou que nunca ninguém suspeitou de qualquer comportamento ilícito do alemão, proprietário de “uma quinta fantástica” junto ao centro urbano de Cerveira, onde possui um estúdio de gravação, uma colecção com mais de 500 pássaros e dezenas de cães de raça pura. “Havia, de facto, muitas crianças que iam visitar a quinta, mas nunca se suspeitou nem se comentou nada, além de que, inclusivamente, os miúdos eram muitas vezes levados à quinta pelos próprios pais”, observou José Manuel Carpinteira, acrescentando que chegou a falar algumas vezes, fortuitamente, com ‘Oliver’ - que desapareceu sem deixar rasto, apesar das informações que dão conta que um dos seus filhos continuar a frequentar a Escola EB 2/3 de Cerveira e um outro estar inscrito na Universidade do Minho. Também nos Bombeiros Voluntários de Cerveira a estupefacção é geral, onde elementos do corpo activo sublinham ter apenas conhecimento das boas acções do alemão, que doou cinco viaturas Mercedes à associação humanitária “numa altura em que esta passava por grandes dificuldades”. Também o clube de futebol local foi contemplado com carrinha.
