    The exact locations of the places we visited:
    1. Piazza del Duomo, i.e. the cathedral square and the cathedral dedicated to St. Agatha, patron saint of the city.
    The symbol of Saint Agates are breasts, reflected, for example, in confectionery. For breakfast, Catanians eat panzerotti made of shortcrust bread filled with cream, resembling a woman's breast, and - of course - the famous minnuzze di Sant'Agata, i.e. semi-circular cookies made of ricotta cheese and sugar, covered with white icing and decorated with candied cherries. ► maps.app.goo.gl/kPWUTUPgPjBMb...
    2. Badia di Sant'Agata, i.e. the Abbey of St. Agaty ► maps.app.goo.gl/AP5gKtQ2z4iMr...
    3. Fontana dell'Elefante, or the Elephant Fountain.
    The elephant was carved from lava and is the symbol of Catania. The fountain was designed by the architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarrini in 1736, inspired by Bernini's Roman elephant statue in Piazza Minerva.
    The stone elephant, called Liotru by the Catanians, which is short for Eliodoro, was probably brought to life in Byzantine times and used by a sorcerer of that name to play unpleasant tricks on the emperor of Constantinople, to whom Sicily was also subject at that time. ► maps.app.goo.gl/f6jp6iQg4pyBn...
    4. Castello Ursino.
    The castle was built by Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century. Initially, the complex was conceived as a coastal defense system for eastern Sicily. As a result of the eruption of the Etna volcano in 1669, the castle was surrounded by lava, which, flowing into the sea, moved the coast by over a kilometer! For this reason, the fortress, originally built on the coast, is now located inland. Currently, Castello Ursino is the seat of the municipal museum. ► maps.app.goo.gl/45sPEb9NM6tGM...
    5. Odeon and Greco-Roman theater.
    The theater, whose construction dates back to the 2nd century AD, could accommodate several thousand spectators. Interestingly, it was built on the site of an older Greek theater. ► maps.app.goo.gl/1TcUzMz4eDnFM...
    6. Via Crociferi.
    Passing under the arch of St. Benedict we reach the UNESCO heritage listed via Crociferi, a street of Baroque churches and monasteries. It is worth visiting the wonderful church of San Giuliano, considered one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque in Catania. At the end of the street there is the baroque Villa Cerami, which is today the seat of the Faculty of Law of the University of Catania. ► maps.app.goo.gl/MoTYzJQFixTEH...
    7. Benedictine Monastery.
    it is a gem of the late Sicilian Baroque, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the second largest Benedictine monastery in Europe, after the Mafra Monastery in Portugal. Today, the monastery is the seat of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Catania. ► maps.app.goo.gl/nSFcPrSEgt7Tw...
    8. Via Etnea and Piazza Università.
    This is the main street of the city, known as the "living room of Catania". Then we reach Piazza Università, one of the most picturesque squares in the historic center of the city, surrounded by monumental buildings with baroque facades. In each of the four corners of the square there are beautiful bronze lanterns depicting four legends famous in Catania:
    - the virtuous young girl Gammazita, who preferred to throw herself into the well,
    - the swimmer Colapesce, who is still supporting one of the corners of the island (Capo Peloro), saving it from sliding into the sea;
    - Pia's pious brothers saving their elderly parents from lava from Etna;
    - Paladin Uzeta fighting against dangerous Giants living in Castello Ursino. ► maps.app.goo.gl/XBrE846HWKECP...
    9. Villa Bellini City Park and Botanical Garden.
    Villa Bellini, a beautiful city park, considered the green lungs of the city. ► maps.app.goo.gl/uEvkEncT47njt...
    Orto Botanico.
    If you like greenery, which unfortunately is not much in Catania, be sure to visit the Botanical Garden. The entrance is also located in via Etnea. ► maps.app.goo.gl/aLHysC41ozpmS...
    10 Piazza Dante and the Church of St. Nicholas.
    On Dante Square you can admire the church of St. Nicholas, the largest and tallest church in Sicily. Note the wood and gold pipe organ, made by Donato Del Piano, and the clock and solar calendar, approximately 40 meters long, built in 1839 by astronomers Wolfrang Sartorius and Prof. Peters, the so-called meridian. It is also worth going to the observation deck located right under the church dome. ► maps.app.goo.gl/s5ZUVNBhbo3hP...
