The performer for this is Kemal Gekić, and his full recording of the overture is on UA-cam as well. I came across him somewhat accidentally while browsin through UA-cam videos, and despite not being a household name, he's an absolutely amazing performer. Born in Croatia, he emigrated to the US, and is now Artist in Residence and Professor at the Florida International University. And this led me to yet another amazing discovery - the annual Miami Piano Festival. Lots of recordings from this festival on UA-cam, and an introduction for me to many of the other remarkable artists performing there, including the Serbian pianist Misha Dacić, and the Ukranian Alexander Gavrylyuk (listen to his Scriabin!!!). These under-appreciated artists are amongst the wonders now available to all of us on UA-cam.
A lot of his "covers" were written to bring attention to emerging or under-appreciated artists that he liked, such as Wagner and Berlioz, and his opera fantasies helped bring opera music (expensive and inaccessible to many people) into a wider audience. For that, I admire him :)
@@ladymacbethofmtsensk he even took the time to transcribe all of Beethoven's symphonies, and stayed true to them as much as he can; no fillers, cadenzas or improvisations. @@jackbreuhaus6244 hmm. Well on upright pianos, the keys take longer to return than on grand pianos, if you are playing on an upright that could be the issue.
