one of the most beautiful rock songs ever...love Bob Mould but Grant Hart songs ( Books about UFO/Terms of Psychic Warfare/Pink turns to Blue/Diane/She's A Woman now she is a man/Flexible Flyer/Don't Wanna know if you are lonely/ etc) were always my favourite..particularly the other-worldly beauty of Green Eyes
I've been going through my album collection after Grant's passing and I'm realizing most of my favorite Husker Du songs are Grant Hart songs. I never realized that until now - with age comes wisdom I guess?

RIP Grant Hart..thanks for your beautiful songs which have stayed part of my life since i first heard them back in my teens over 30 years ago..your spirit and music lives on
Like harbor fish and eels, swimming out of the murk to feed on the pier, qualities of this song continue to gnaw at me--30+ years after the fact. This is an anthem. Grant should be awarded the Stanley Cup full of Veuve Cliquot and a 500-pound green eyed Bengal tiger for his masterpiece.
Very jealous Ernie. I was handed a battered TDK cassette around 87/88 of CAG in Australia. They had just broken up around that time. Playing that cassette from the first listen was something I will never forget. An immediate connection.
I've had this LP in various forms along with their others and this is justjust one of many incredibly timeless and inspiring pieces of music they created. Husker Du were true originals.

they were pretty much like Lennon and McCartney. Hart being McCartney and Mould being Lennon. The pair was just as prolific as The Beatles were and their entire repertoire is phenomenal and timeless music
Indeed. Jon Auer does a lovely acoustic interpretation of this one that is just romantic as hell, and it doesn't matter who he's singing it to. This is an incredible song. Period.
the song is important in the way you interpet it. if it is about you and your girl, guy or cat. you bring as much to the song emotionally as the writer did. he didn't write it for you, so however it makes you feel is what matters. love can not be boxed and sold only between this type of person and that type of person. stop worrying about all of that. live your life trying not to be judgemental and miserable to other people. love finds itself and be glad for those who find it.

I have a beautiful green eyes partner, we're both drummers too, we'll never get married but we're going to be together forever and this is our song. I'd like to imagine a situation where we waste time on a wedding just so we can dance together to this song in some sort of dedication to each other ❤
Another example of these 3 barrel-chested-farmboys playing with fire.. Not really sure what to say... Other bands had all this production, engineers, directors, money, labels, budget, lawyers, etc... But when you get right down to it, ITS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE SONG. And this is one of the most awesome ever, please excuse my loud mouth..
+Matthew Bailey Haha, so because he has an opinion that might be wrong he's a poser that shops at Hot Topic? Well aren't you the best musical historian ever~? Well Mr. Musical Historian next time someone voices an opinion or might be wrong, how about you kindly give your opinion instead of acting as though you're the voice of the people. I mean all he said was that it reminded him of a song. Act more mature maybe? Anyways if you're not going to be an adult and give a insult filled reply then kindly don't reply~ If you're going to act like any respectable person then feel free to give your opinion, but don't count on either of us replying~ Buh bye~ c:
@alkalinenofx I read that somewhere, but I cannot find any reference to that now, so I am not sure at all. It may have just been another online comment. Also, I believe what I read said it was about Bob's cat. Since this is Grant's song, I doubt that. Anyway, I sing the song to my cat and for me, it's about a cat.
I'm convinced Interpol were inspired by these guys!!! Interpol was inspired by Nirvana, which they were inspired by Husker Du, so it would make sense! 3 of the greatest bands of all time!!!
I've always been partial to I'm Sticking With You and Afterhours by the Velvets, and Dirty Water by the STandells, and What I Like About You by The Romantics. Hmmm, I to seem to favour drummers... :)
Who says punk rock can't be beautiful?
jimbo 2346
It was me who said that, but I was wrong.
Stupid purists.
@@coldcoldrain13 The Damned's Smash It Up is a beautiful song, same with Richard Hell And the Voidoids' song Time.

It's really almost hypnotic. One of my very favorite Husker Du songs.
Best love song ever written. I still tear up when I hear it sometimes.
One of the most beautiful punk rock songs about a cat. It's one you remember. Saw these guys twice, both shows were awesome.

This song is beautiful and haunting. Husker Du rules.
a song that I played for my girl to show her how much I loved her.
thanks Grant....RIP
Me, too, We've been married for 18 years now. R. I. P. Mr. Hart. I hope you have found peace.
This song is a Grant Hart "solo" piece...He wrote it, sang it, played bass and drums AND guitar..Surprised ?
I can hear where Pixies probably got the inspiration for "Wave of Mutilation."
totally
I think Frank Black covered this song or something cos I remember he put me on to it.
why kurt cobain not his top 50?

hard to believe how good this is........so glad I got to see them live in 1985. one of the few benefits of being a middle aged man............

It's pretty easy to play. Not that difficult. A classic.

Nuttin wrong with a TRUE green eyed dame. Few of us out there.
Blue green eyes , wich is more peculiar

My love song
great song! Beatles in 1985.
Great Song, for sure !!
love this
Haha, I've always said this song reminds me of KISS. I come in this clip & read someone else saying the same thing. Sounds great.
I heard a rumor that this song was written about his cat
well being a husker du song i bet is safe to assume it is not about a girl either
Grant was bisexual, so it could have been about a girl
It's a song about his cat 😍
When we saw Grant live he told us it was about a cat.
must have been a russian blue
Most of my fave Husker Du songs are Grants, Just slow it down enough for a melody to appear, I think Bob figured that out, hence, SUGAR
I always heard the melody; didn't have to or want to slow anything down.
So much for your theory, mein Fuhrer
Love Grant Hart for this song. I've got green eyes.
I'm just playing my daughter's 3/4 size acoustic along with this - last part is Bb A Bb A F C Dm A Bb Db F.
I agree, it's all about Grant Hart, although Mould gets most the attention. This song is just amazing + beautiful.

@ambientfairchild You do know this is Grant Hart singing on this one, right? Maybe you should comment on a song that Mould had the lead vocals.

Its a great big world written for a cat according to Grant.

Once again, one hundred to one people say Husker Du good.
@lid107 Ah thank you for reassuring me that society has no hope of forward movement. I was getting a bit skeptical there.
It's about his cat. Fact.
yes

@alkalinenofx but this song is about a cat
It's about Grant's boyfriend at the time. I won't name him, but he was in another Minneapolis band. GREAT song.
Woeeeeeeee, someone said it was about a man. Shocked !
Some say about a cat .
Give the initials of his so called boyfriend. Nosey.
@MarvinValidbook cool thanks
Sounds like something from bossanova or trompe le monde if you ask me.
