Quick question. On my single action transmission I used to pump 1/4 tube of grease before cutting. Ive noticed the when I remove the oil cap, there is grease in the transmision mixed with the oil! What can I do to remove it?!
If you have grease in the oil, you would need to drain the gearbox, then add some solvent (diesel would also work) to break down the grease, then drain again.
@@BCSAmerica How can it be drained? It's too viscous to drain through the bolt. Maybe the 4 bolts in the back that open the transmision. Is it a big problem to have grease mixed with oil? How would grease end up in the transmision in the first place? Many thanks!
@@peter.s-yt Yes, you would need to rinse the gearbox with a solvent to break down the grease so that it is less viscous. There is only one grease zerk on the transmission. If you are pumping grease into that zerk and it is making its way into the oil, you likely have a bad seal. Are you getting oil leaking out of the PTO connection point?
Sickle bars can be very tricky! Lots of changes over the years. First - is the PTO connection a 3-dog jaw or spline drive? If it is a 10-spline, it was built in 1994 or before. If it is a 3-dog, it is 1995 or newer. Do you know if it is single-action or dual? A picture would tell us a lot - info@bcsamerica.com
@@BCSAmerica it is a 3-dog jaw and I have the quick attach coupler on my tractor.. I have another question, my tractor won't engage the PTO with it in front attachment mode, this is the first time I've used a front attachment, I've had my tractor for about 8 years, 722, is it possible something is seized preventing it from working? The PTO works great with my tiller.
Appreciate the video, I mow 10 (!) furrowed acres of pasture w/ a 57" DA sickle bar on a BCS 853.
Okay video
How often do you recommend changing the oil on the sickle mower? Is there any other action that should be taken to lubricate the dual blades?
Which type of grease do you suggest to use for the maintenance?

I recently bought a sickle bar mower at auction. How do I tell what year it was made?

I should state that the sickle bar operates, but I can't engage the blades and go in the forward direction to cut
