We have 3 Salmon Favorellis that never go broody anymore. But the flip side of that is although they never want to HATCH the eggs they LOVE baby chickens. We have multiple coups and keep the babies in one that’s seperated while they’re getting used to outside and generally will put one of the hens inside. I call them MamaRellis. And if you don’t let all 3 mamas inside with the babies they are SO MAD. They won’t leave the coup and circle it like sharks trying to get in and go off on Hens that try to peck the babies through the fence.
I’ve only ever seen the Polish hens hatch the babies but then reject the chicks, the Mamas are confused by peeps that have no feathers and flee but once they get feathers the MamaRellis are THERE for the babies. Still haven’t found a chicken to help the fuzzy peeps but it concerns me very little. They take every opportunity to try and climb my arms and jump inside my shirt for a boob nap. Evidently it’s warm in there 😅

It’s not an issue if it’s only the chicks, but if you have older chickens they usually pick on the younger ones until they are bigger in size and so doing this lets the chicks get bigger in the coop but keeps them separate from my older hens.
