This is a sad tip but true. Go to a thrift store in a rich area- practically nothing. Go to one in a poor area, rich pickings. People don't expect things to be valuable there, so they don't check. Also (and I hate to say this) rich people are less likely to throw items off any value away, opting to sell... not a judgement, you only know what you know... but there it is.
Also, I have a lot of fun collecting silver from electronics. There's plenty there if you know what you are looking for

At least one of those silver halves you showed was a 40% silver coin. It was a 1969. The only year that the Kennedy was 90% in circulation was 1964. 65 to 70 were 40% silver.

If you find the silver flatware do not go to a kiosk in the mall and do not go to one of the shops that have a sign that says We Buy Gold and Silver they are going to rip you off a drastically you'll be lucky to get 70% of spot value. There are a lot of collectors for sterling silver flatware and dishes these pieces are worth more than scrap so do not scrap them sell them you'll make more money.

Chances are, if you only go to the thrift now and then, you aren't going to find anything. I go every single day, morning and afternoon. I often pick things right out of the carts as employees are stocking the shelves.

You remind me of me. I go two to four times a week to thrift stores. I bring rare earth magnets, jewelers eye loupe and diamond testers with me. Everyone looks at me funny, I don’t care I love what I do. I am learning so much as I go. A lot of fake jewelry but thanks to Neodymium magnets I have saved me some trouble from buying fakes.

I'm halfway through the video and I'm wondering when you're going to discuss the value of different makers. Your bowl is worth 2-4×s that of no-name sterling if its Gorham, Tiffany, etc. Forget melt weight unless what you have is trashed. There is a big market in pawn and coin shops that tell you they are only going to get melt weight value. They're lying.

Winter you are exactly right I thought the exact same thing. I have 100's of Sterling Silver Jewelry and even bracelets are hard to get rid of for even under $10 shipped. I have 3 Bracelets on ebay none have sold and two are at $6.95 and haven't sold. That Earring he showed is at most worth $1 to $2 and that is tops. Those kind of earrings which I have many of are usually hollow and even if they are not hollow you are looking at $2 to $3 retail value tops. If 925 Earrings were worth what he thinks they are worth then I'm rich. When in reality you literally can not get Pawn Shops to buy most 925 stuff let alone a lone pair of 925 earrings. If your trying to resale 925 jewelry I would recommend you don't honestly. At Thrift Stores 925 Jewelry is almost always at least $2.99 to $9.99 and usually the Silver Value isn't even worth that amount. Trust me you will learn the hard way if you don't believe this. There is only 1 way to legitly profit from Sterling and it still really isn't worth it and that is Garage Sales where you can get Sterling for $.25 Cents or $.50 Cents but even then think about it you buy 2 pieces for 25 cents each and Melt Value is $1. It's not worth it to take the time to sell a 2 items worth $1 Each because after shipping you are losing money. So the only way to do it is pay as little as you can at Garage Sales and collect the Sterling for a Very Long Time. If Sterling was worth $40-$50 an ounce maybe it would be different but that isn't reality right now. And as far as finding Sterling Silver Dishes at Thrift Stores I mean come on man you are either too new to this or you are outright lying. I have about 4lbs of silver in just jewelry that is how often I go looking for stuff at thrift stores and garage sales but not once in 5 years have I ever found a dish like that and I literally look weekly! My Advice people is look for other stuff

2 years ago me and my father were working on a barn that is on a property he inherited. It was build in 1796 and we just maintain it so it does not fall apart. Anyway on the bottom of a box full of rusty nails we found 50 german bullets from WW2. We put them back and left them for somebody else to discover them again and feel joy.

Great finds - I look for the same stuff in thrift stores whenever I get the chance as well; I love the thrill of the hunt :) By the way, not all coin silver is created equal - American half-dollars dated 1964 and earlier are 90% silver. 1965-1970 halves are only 40% silver.

somebody came into the gas station I was working armed security at. He had probably $50 of silver half dollars. he was trying to buy gas with those half dollars. I said sure you can buy gas, and you have anymore those that you want to trade for cash? I'm a coin collector. He said yeah I got a lot out in the truck. So I went out to take a look and he probably had $400 worth of half dollars in his car. I bought as many as I freaking could which happened to be all of them. I cleaned him out. Then after he left I went over to the cash register and cleaned out all the silver half dollars from the cash register. Of course I put money. But yeah I bought $400 worth of half dollars valued at $400 and face value, and they were probably worth a total of $2,400. When silver is valued at around $19.
