    You put a lot of thought in your shed and it looks practical and usable right away. I like your sense of humor, good luck with the calving. We are expecting -30 to -40 F temps here this week in Minnesota. I won’t calve until late March with our small herd. You have some really high quality Red Angus

      Minnesota is a very productive state and has real winter, from what I've been told. When I was younger my Dad was the President of the Sugar Beet Growers and a Anderson that was farmer and part of the sugar industry from Minnesota would call all the time to talk to my Dad and I would visit about the weather with him all the time.

    Good day Boy that mini barns looks good. I can't get over how quick it melts. Like the little joke you told about a chinnok. I think that will really help in cold weather. We will get to see more. Thanks I glad you are back to showing face. Thanks

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  5 років тому

      I think it will be nice, it won't help much when it is really cold and you have 20 cows calve in a day but my other barn that I need to move is too small to help with that as well. It does melt fast and then the wind switched to the North and it froze up pretty good last night , but I'm not complaining because it is way better than -40.

    Love your mini barn , i have something similar, never crossed my mind to put a couple clear panels on roof for some light ,genius idea !! Good luck with the calving season 👍

      Those clear panels are super sweet, when I sheeted the sides and was going to start the roof I thought this is going to be so dark and I decided then to order the clear panels.

    Pretty slick, we've been slowly working on a calving barn. Going to be using it alot the next five years. I've been wanting one of those pens for awhile now. Anything is better than roping a heifer around the neck and tieing her to a fence post and pulling the calf

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  5 років тому

      Last year our snow was so deep and it was so icy that I roped a bunch of hfrs to pull their calves and it wasn't much fun. They also don't mother up as well when you pull the halter off they tend to run away. I would like to build a big barn with lots of pens so that when it is cold the cows can all go through the barn but that would be a lot of money. I like the Morrand maternity pen but it is double the price of this one, I would like to build one using the Morrand head catch( same as my squeeze chute).

    • @sowerscattleco3484
      @sowerscattleco3484 5 років тому

      @@AndersonCattleCo we started building one a few years back and our biggest expense was the tin. Use old telephone poles and added it to the side of our existing barn. We can put about 10 pens in it and quite a few heifers.

    like the head gate setup looks very well made ....beats waiting for a cow to get exhausted before u can handle her on your own .....have been attacked by other cows while pulling a calf from a cow .....wet cold ground conditions not easy to work with .! hope you video the head gate being used ....clear lights in roof are handy but take care around them ....after a while they get clouded and people have fallen through them when on the roof years later ...

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  5 років тому

      If I can't walk them in I just rope them and get to work and I try not to keep any people hunters around. I did have a cow that didn't want me helping her friend so I roped her and snubbed her up to a post for a couple hours. If a heifer has been trying for 2 hrs I just get the calf out. The clear panels on the roof are pretty flimsy and I wouldn't put any of my weight on them.

May want to sheet the swing gate so the cow dont wanna look at you but it may work jsut fine anyhow... but i like it... simple yet very effective

      I wish I could've got the other barn moved but at least I can pull a calf with out chasing her to the corral and hauling her to the barn with the stock trailer.

    Looks like a much better option than the long walk for sure. Hopefully with it being a smaller facility they won't get too high headed...or you get to find out how sturdy construction y'all did. Either way, at least it's closer.

    Nice looking set up..
    I've been building the same barns for the locals out here in sask for 10 years ...just started making crowd tubs and alley all out of oilfield pipe too...the barns are not air tight but better then out in the open at -20 or colder

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  5 років тому

      you bet , it is better than roping them on the bedding pile. Pretty competitive business welding cattle stuff. My Dads friend tried welding for Morrand like some of the other Mennonites that are welding in my area but he switched back to using oilfield pipe and doing his own thing because he couldn't pay his power bill welding for Morrand.

      yes , last year we had 8' of snow and it was hard to get the heifers to the corral and one night my daughter helped me rope and pull calves on 3 heifers and it was -40. I took Jessica to the store that week end and told her to buy whatever she wanted.

      you are 100% right , one day I will have a 30 stall barn but not in the next couple years, if I ever get a 500 cow ranch bought I will calve in May, June, and I won't need a barn.

      I guess he will be putting calves in the house to warm up. I have neighbors that think I'm crazy not to have a 30 stall barn. That oil field pipe is popular stuff, I wish I could afford a semi load of pipe and sucker rod! Lol
    1 question, why is your working facilities way over by the neighbors?

    • @AndersonCattleCo
      @AndersonCattleCo  5 років тому

      My working facilities are at the end of the farm where it didn't have irrigation. Before I had the pivot I irrigated with wheel lines and I didn't want to waste irrigated land. Now with the pivot it is still a dryland part so it is still the best place for a corral. Oilfield pipe has doubled in price the last few years, the US buys it all up because they can still drill with the used pipe where it has been rejected in Canada after it has been used so much. You can only buy it by the semi load and we have had a load ordered and 2hrs before it was supposed to be delivered the trucker got called to go to the US border and switch the trailer because the pipe was going to Texas , and we got told too bad so sad. Sucker rod is hard to find now as well, you have to know someone.
