Is it too early to put JJ McCarthy into the GOAT conversation?
LOL, right behind Caleb? They have set that poor guy up for a fall...
Well, we should probably wait until he actually takes the field in the NFL.
No, not too early at all
Greatest overrated atrocious thrower? Jk, hoping for the best.
I'm sure they're already working on his bust for Canton.
I would hope O'Connell makes it a competition. If McCarthy is the Dude then he should beat Darnold for the starting job.
Correct so tired of all these blah blah blah blah. Judd you and I are the same age and you’re an old man! 😮
JJ should be given a legitimate shot to win the starting job Next Year! Needs to sit this year, at least till late in the season, and only if Vikes are eliminated from the playoffs.
He has a checklist of things to convince the vikings of
There's no timeline on finishing that list. He might do it week 13, he might do it during training camp
The competition is with yimself
Give JJ the job when he’s ready. No sooner no later. Super simple. Especially for me because I’m just a fan. Lol

Shout out to the Guy from Columbus Ohio! Nice to see a fellow Vikings Fan!
New Vikings fan following JJ from Michigan. Wow, you guys have some sound takes! Great discussion.
Made a bet early in the twolves game (q1), that if we won by 40 the bartender owed me a shot. I won the free shot. What a game
Couldn’t agree more with you guys. JJ’s progression should be of the upmost importance, even more so than the 2024. If Darnold is having a hard time out there, he’s gotta stay out there, as sacrificial as that is.
He will be sacrificed for the greater good of JJ. If he dies he dies
There is no negative to McCarthy getting a year to watch learn and work on being ready to play at a high level in his second year.
Mario's in St Paul has great Detroit style pizza.
Also, Punch Pizza, with a couple different locations, has great Naples style pizza.
But really, it's tough to go wrong with Black Sheep.
Mr.Mackey! Where’s O-Line Committee this week?
You know, I actually feel really bad for Darnold. Had he been drafted by a competent team, I truly believe he would be a consistent top 10 QB today. He's like the third highest rated QB coming out of college in the last decade. He has ALL the tools. His failure was 90% team related.
Jordan Williamson my dad and I did the same pilgrimage from Columbus last year! Skol!
Do you guys go to the Vikings fan club up at Fenders Polaris?
JJ will start game one. Bank on it.
I don’t think he is going to be worried because he didn’t have a Dallas Turner like defensive players coming at him. SKOL VIKINGS
Poor Sam must feel like the invisible man in this city. Probably win a Super Bowl and everyone will by pass him and go straight to JJs locker
Poor Sam is getting paid millions. He’ll live
What are those benchmarks that KOC has for McCarthy, are they the same as what he had for Jaren Hall last year lol? Because KOC thought he was ready and gave us the best chance to win against the Packers and that was an absolute disaster. KOC says all the right things like a good politician, but he has yet to demonstrate anything as a QB whisperer or offensive mind.
Nothing better than drunkly stumbling round downtown and discovering Pizza La Vista still open.
Wow!!! The Vikings have, for the first time some REAL options at the QB position. Patience is the right way to go with JJ Mac. And when is the other JJ gonna sign his new contract??
Football Pizza (formerly Crescent Moon 🌙) on Central Ave is fantastic

The comeback vs the colts...you weren't there for that Judd
Would love to see McCarthy light up the Crappers. Even if it’s the only game he plays all year.
I thought they already said TJ won’t be back until after Thanksgiving
I wonder if Darnold deep down feels he is one of the top 32 qb’s in the league. If not slightly over pay him for a long term back up. You must have a number 2 to step in.
2025 Vikings Salary Cap: 68M
Here are the moves to expect.
Extension
JJ - 35M/yr
Darrisaw - 25M/yr
Cut
Smith - 6.5M
Bradbury - 6M
Remaining cap: 20.5M (liberal estimate 35M)
Needs?
C
LG
DT (2)
DE (2)
CB (2)
WR3
How are we expected to compete with “all this cap space”? And we just have 4 picks.
Makes me think either they’re going to need to consider cutting O’Neill and Oliver plus Murphy’s contract expires adding another spot for need at corner.
@@michaelchambers3227 bottom line... many holes not enough cash as we sit right now
You could restructure contracts, which happens all the time. Personally, and this is just an opinion not saying I'm right, not saying I'm wrong, but I'd be cool with trading Justin for a haul.
@@HarambetheWhiteagreed! Tom Brady and Pat Mahomes proved teams don't need an elite WR to win the Super Bowl
You’re not factoring in what those players currently make. You only add the difference to the cap.
there not cutting smith
If KAM/KOC already know (by training camp) that Jefferson/Minny are not signing a deal before the end of the year, but Jefferson has indicated he wont hold out, if McCarthy is “on par” with Darnold, would you start McCarthy in potentially his only year with Jefferson as one of his WRs?
yep 7 Tight ends, we must have a bigger Tj Hock problem then being let know. going to need a TE for JJ to check to.
Here’s what I don’t get. All these sports betting sites have odds for JJ like he will be starting week 1. Almost 3,000 yards passing, around 20 TD’s, 4th best odd for offensive rookie of the year. How could he possibly get to these numbers if he doesn’t start week 1? Wouldn’t you just hammer the under if you thought he wasn’t going to start until week 13? The oddsmakers obviously think JJ will be starting week 1.
Are they slowly bringing Caleb Williams along?
Honestly, if he doesn't play this year, I'm cool with it.
Sit him ALL season, regardless good bad or ugly. There is absolutely no downside doing this.
There is something special about watching Purple Daily on the Livestream and watching Kirt's wife, or thetrevorsimpson as she calls herself, completely melt down in the comments trying to defend her LOSER husband. 💜🤣🍿
What about the wilfs that always want to win what happens if darnold struggles like 1-4 start what would happen to the plan if ownership isn’t happy with a bad season.
And if we stink up the joint without JJM then we'll get a good draft pick next year to help out.
JJ reminds me of Archibald Asparagus with the monocle in Veggie Tales. Just needs to dye his hair green.
💀
Pat played his rookie yr, like week 11 or 12
Love the show, as a vikings fan in my opinion I would start Mccarthy week 13 let him adjust to the nfl this kid has all the tools to go forward with vikings fans should be patient no matter how sam darnold is playing the future looks bright for our vikings let's gooooo skol 9
thetrevorsimpson is going in on the live chat damn
I used to work at Dulunos on Lyn and Lake. Sorry, but that pizza is overrated.
Judd showing his scars and fear of failure with his soft takes on JJ. Don’t coddle the guy. Guys can either handle the pressure or they cannot. Waiting just delays finding out. JJ’s profile and past portray someone that excels under pressure.
As soon as he has an understanding of the offense and playbook, he should start. Just walking into camp, he is better than Darnold. And Darnold only has a few weeks headstart on learning the offense. My prediction is JJ starts either week 1 or week 7 depending on whether KOC holds back the best player again (Mattison-Chandler) or learned from this mistake.
If Darnold falls you got Nick
Can we please stop with the ghost man as projected starter dnt we all remember how he was seeing ghost from the Patriots defense
Didn't NE had the worst d that year! If it was JJ, he would of taken the Jets to the superbowl.
@@32deuce nah they had a pretty good defensive front that year nd the sack leader at that time was going sack for sack with Hunter that year I want to say it was mayo but I could be wrong
Cousins knew the offense and sucked first 4 games so did koc who knew the offense so we need talent to compensate for fools. JJ is that talent.
Pizza have to go to wreckedtangle
I think darnold is going to be better than kirk one reason he can run and more.
Phil: Darnold is not Alex Smith. Darnold is Daniel Jones. (Jones is better but this is a close enough comparison.)
Alex Smith was Kirk Cousins. A good starter nearing the end of his career. If Cousins was still the Vikings QB then McCarthy sits the year. But you guys are acting like Darnold is a good QB. He isn’t. He is terrible as a starter and is now on his fourth team.
I guarantee that the Vikings are hoping to not start Darnold at all this season. If Darnold is the starter, it is a lost season. There is no upside for a team with a marginal QB starting.
Darnold is not Alex Smith, Aaron Rodgers, or any of the other veteran QBs where it made sense to sit the rookie. He is a 26 year old bust on his 4th team that sees ghosts and consistently turns the ball over.
Franchise tag Jefferson dont give him a huge contract. Use that cash to build the trenches.
Trade before franchise tag. I think Jefferson holds in this training camp, plays 5, 6 games, then pulls a hammy. If Vikings franchise it would be a rinse and repeat kinda thing.
Trade is my first choice too and i think the vikings want to trade him for draft capital but are afraid of the push back but at the same time they are hesitating on giving qb money to a receiver.
@@user-xo2ve5eb8m Yep, they might just give Jefferson his asking price. Not sure what they're waiting for. It's almost like they're trying to convince themselves, "it's really gonna hurt but we gotta do it"😂
@@user-xo2ve5eb8m thats why you tag him
@@903i9Just waiting on the other WRs contracts to get done then he'll get his haul
Jj is already better than peak Brady and will be in the hall of fame by the end of training camp
Hockenson wont be the same.. He wont want to go over the middle and take those hits.. # skittish
Meh. Hard to say. He may come back even more aggressive wanting to cash out on another contract before retirement.
I think minnesota fans are more excited about starting mcarthy than winning the nba championship.
Why are people so quick to try and win 8 or 9 games. Who cares if we win 4 or 5. We will get another defensive stud and have a 4-6 year window to compete for a super bowl.
Mamas pizza yung Joni for pizza
If darnold has a good year he would probably be 16ish
best case scenario is darnold takes us to a 10 - 7 record and then jams his thumb in the nfc champ game like brees so jj mccarthy comes in and takes over and then wins superbowl mvp the next game. XD
I think Sam is going to be really great! What then?
Time will tell. If Sam’s great, McCarthy sits.
What the hell does, if his Footwork is bad?
Way too early for j.j mc carthy. H. O. F or. Goat award
Darnold was the third overall pick and people are rushing him out of the door. If KOC is what people claim he will get Darnold to reach his potential. Darnold can drive this car for a year ...possibly two years if he plays exceptionally well.
Bro please go away, two years? Go follow the Packers! We will not Pay Sam another 10 plus million to stick around!! Man I hate UA-cam sometimes! JJ will start this year and next year day one!
Why do you want Darnold to fail?
@@user-xo2ve5eb8mNobody wants Darnold to fail. But he has shown us who he is. Coaches cannot wave a magic wand and turn a bust into a star. At best, Darnold could improve to an adequate QB in the top 25-30 range from the journeyman backup that he currently is (top 35-45). He isn’t becoming Mahomes, that ship has sailed. It doesn’t matter at all when he was drafted. Guy has physical traits but lacks the necessary mental and emotional traits to ever become a good starter. Competent NFL QBs don’t see ghosts and collapse when pressured. Coaches cannot fix that, only try to work around it. If McCarthy cannot beat out Darnold, then the Vikings have a big problem.
@@user-xo2ve5eb8mI’ll put it another way, if Darnold was penciled in as the starter for the Lions, Bears, or Packers you’d be laughing at them and counting those games as automatic wins for the Vikings. It is only through purple shades that you are projecting Darnold to become something that he has never been.
@@intrepidfool the teams he has left hasnt done anything either so it wasnt all donald
You're not going to recommend Pizza Ranch???? The official pizza restaurant of our former Quarterback Dictator Kirk Cousins.
JJ is 21 years old. Look at him. He is physically immature and has to grow into his body. The longer he waits, the better he will be.
Selling McCarthyism - "lol. Our 2025 cap will be down to 30M once JJs contract comes in. Then close to 5M when we extend Darrisaw"
Literally shows that they know nothing but fear of what others say... PPL acting like JJ is going to take 50+ million towards the CAP... Shoot... there's a good chance if extension is done... Kirk Cousins will still have the higher cap hit this year and he ain't even on the roster anymore!
Regardless, it's dumb to pay a WR that kind of money. The WR position just doesn't move the needle where it matters. You could sign a couple dudes who play positions that does move the needle where it matters with the money you're not paying JJ, and draft a couple more studs in the first round that you get in the trade. That's a championship building move. You don't need the best WR to win, you just need 2-3 decent affordable WR's. In the 4 years before JJ got here, the Vikings win pct was .617 with 2 playoff appearances, in the 4 years with JJ it's just .522 with 1 playoff appearance.
@@purplepainforums Yet... you can say the same with Kirk Cousins... paid a QB for 2 playoff appearances...
Right now, it's a good time to pay JJ because there isn't a QB needing a contract. We out here acting like Vikings can sign great players right now instead of paying JJ... Let me ask you this, who out there worth the $?
You don’t trade JJ this year. If you cannot resign him, you tag and trade him next offseason.
Kwik Trip food is disgusting!
Mack-a-Dack…is that a scar under your nose? Whats the story?
If they’re looking for a franchise quarterback, they should use him initially, very carefully for all the reasons you both outlined.
What happens when Darnold gets hurt and JJ hasn't hit his benchmarks? Do we play JJ before he is ready?
Stick to the plan
Sam Darnold didn’t get screwed. He just wasn’t good enough. Stop making failed QBs the victims. You could just as easily say that because Darnold wasn’t good, his coaches lost their jobs. Maybe they are the victims?
The reality is that coaches and system can help or hurt a little bit but not to the extreme being portrayed. Nobody was preventing Mahomes from being a star. If the Vikings had drafted him, Zimmer is still the HC and a future HOF. Nobody was turning Darnold into an elite QB. He isn’t good enough. He sees ghosts and turns the ball over. He doesn’t have the ice in his veins necessary to be a top tier NFL QB. He is what he is: a QB who’s physical traits allow him to be a journeyman backup and spot starter despite his mental and emotional deficiencies.
Coaches aren’t miracle workers. Dobbs was still super streaky, winning and losing games. Mullens still went YOLO as a turnover machine. Cousins still checked down on 4th and 8 with the season on the line. Darnold will still turn the ball over and crumble under pressure. The QBs themselves are responsible for the level of success they achieve. Nobody else. Coaches can try and give a player the best opportunity to succeed but the outcomes are 100% up to the player.
Plot twist🤔 : JJ becomes a bust and Darnold takes the reins for the next decade?
Judd is such a clown. The Packers suck.
Mccarthy is so mid....
Vikings gone be trash this year. 5-12
